Obama Fighting for his Presidency, Not Reform
Washington Examiner ^ | 08/17/2009 | Chris Stirewalt

The big question for President Barack Obama right now isn't about health care, but his own political survival.

If he fails to deliver health legislation, Obama will prove right those who said he was in over his head. That would make him something of a lame duck after only seven months in office.

57% don’t think the stimulus is working. That’s his biggest problem. He was elected to “fix” the economy. He pushed through a massive plan and it failed (in the eyes of the public.)

Had the stimulus worked, I think the public would be willing to follow his lead a little more on health care. But since it didn’t, they won’t. He had chance to show he understood economics and blew it. Not it’s “he screwed up the stimulus, how do I know he won’t screw up health care?”

Had the stimulus worked

How can something work when when a majority of the funds haven't even been released?

>>> worst ... president ... ever ... <<<<

Unbelievable that he is already worse than Carter, who yes was incompetent and an arrogant punk, but who also took 15 or 20 years post-presidency to warm up to the idea of dissing American and critiquing other presidents at every opportunity.

Zer0’s done all that and more, after only seven months.

That $800 billion in “stimulus funds” is Zer0’s walkin’ around money.

He spent $3.5 billion on “green car research” a couple weeks ago, and last week dedicated another several $billion$ to “affordable rental housing.”

Basically the $800 billion can be used for whatever Zer0 thinks is a cool idea.

No further checks. No further balances.

Well, you forgot he said that it may take years if ever to see if the stimulus will work. LOL

Obama [has] damaged what was once his greatest asset -- the belief among voters that he was something different.

Election 2008 has come home to rue.

In the world of campaigning he was magic.

I remember. By comparison JFK was just a premium brand of corn flakes. Every part of the MSM that binds us became Obama's campaign -- if you weren't starry-eyed you had little chance of getting coverage.

.. and emanating from virtually every political source was the promise of a super bonus for whites: we would be absolved of our vile selves, it could be white America's last chance.

IMO absent his zeal to apologize for the America that preceded him and to ram through nation-changing legislation his "magic" would be a huge plus for us all.

You can't dislike his public persona but he's condemned by his zeal born of decades of the poison of 1960s Marxist-Alinsky hippie street rabble.

Election 2008 has come home to rue

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

My point exactly. Obama shoved through the stimulus in record time, because it had to be done in record time to save the economy. People gave him the benefit of the doubt. Then they find out 80% of it isn’t scheduled to be spent until several years into the future.

People are dumb, but they aren’t stupid. They know money scheduled to be spent several years from now isn’t helping the economy today.

And then Obama started talking about needing a second stimulus package.

Fool me once... is such a well know saying that I don’t even have to finish it. The American public is now applying it to Obama.

Not dealing straight with the public on the stimulus is what has lost him the trust of the American people. Now they don’t trust him to deal straight on health care, and are examining everything in detail.

Just a reminder to everone to keep their eye on this administration as it is the least trustworthy in my lifetime and perhaps in our history. They will do anything they can to do to further Obama’s bidding and it would behoove us to keep a very sharp eye on these people, because they just might pass some very destructive legislation at 11:59 on a Friday evening.

I also suspect that defeats will be answered by revenge, so keep awake to the possibilities.
