Obama must apologise over Gatesgate
Telegraph Blogs (U.K.) ^ | July 24, 2009 | Damian Thompson

It’s looking as if Barack Obama has very seriously blundered over Gatesgate - implying a policeman was racist for arresting the pompous and abusive Professor Henry Louis Gates. The more details that emerge, the worse Obama – and Gates – appear:

Dennis O’Connor, chairman of the Cambridge Superior Officers Association, accused the president of blundering into something he knew little about.

He said: “When you don’t have all the facts, your next words should be ‘I have no comment’.”

Stephen Killian, the president of the Cambridge Police Patrol Officer’s Association said that Mr Obama’s comments were “disgraceful”

“For this to happen to Sgt Crowley is wrong. Cambridge officers are not stupid, and they should make an apology to us and every law enforcement person who took offence at this,” he added.

Alan McDonald, lawyer for the Cambridge police department, added: “There is no evidence whatsoever the arrest was race-based. It was in inappropriate of him [Mr Obama] to make the allegation.”

It has also emerged that Sgt Crowley has taught a racial profiling class at the Lowell Police Academy in Boston for five years with a black colleague and was handpicked by a senior black officer for the role.

Prof Gates called Sgt Crowley a “rogue policeman” and demanded an apology but has yet to elaborate on his initial account of the incident.

A charge against him of disorderly conduct was dropped on Tuesday, when the case was first made public.

Sgt Crowley said he made the arrest after Prof Gates overreacted and refused to end a stream of invective and accusations of racism that had followed routine questions and procedure.

Excellent post. The only thing I would add, based on one little detail--that Gates is renting the house--, is to suggest that if he had owned the home, he might have instead been thanking the police for investigating a suspected burglary in progess.

Esp, in light of the door having been damaged by a previous burglary or attempt to burglar. Is that fact that makes his reaction all the stranger.

Conclusion: The professor is dealing with a less than a full deck or with a stacked deck.

the yuppie “it’s all about me” mantra runs in his head at every waking moment.

I think about it every time he disingenuously says "This isn't about me."

BTW, I lived in Cambridge once, years ago. I literally had to move after only a few months because I found the people so intolerable.

A woman I worked with said Cambridge was so great because of the "diversity" here, and I told her as someone who lives here (at the time) I found no diversity at all where it counted--between the ears, that everyone was pro-welfare, pro-choice, anti-war, anti-Bush. She thought about this and said "I suppose so" as if this were some obscure little idea and that OF COURSE people thought that way, and what was I going on about, EVERYONE with a brain thought that way.

I believe one of the biggest brands of cards is,coincidentally enough, from a company called Elite.

Twenty years of Reverend Wright's anti-white, anti-Jew sermons have taken root in his soul.

Obama's racism took root in his soul long before he joined Wright's "church." In fact, it's the reason he picked Wright as his "reverend" in the first place -- they were already simpatico regarding whites/Jews/America/etc. Most of Obama's attitudes were learned at the feet of communist Frank Marshall Davis. ...between the ages of 10 and 20.

Yes, "diversity" to libs means diversity of skin color and ethnicity. Diversity of ideas horrifies them.

Exactly. True diversity to a liberal? Tell them your conservative positions and look at how “open” they are to diversity of what matters—ideas.
