Waterboarding - Is It Torture? Does it Work? Well, it Saved American Lives

Obama previously released OLC memos, and basically called them criminal. The released memos present the threat of prosecutions involving the waterboarding of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Ramzi Binalshibh, and Abu Zubaydah. But the CIA is unbending, saying the waterboarding saved American lives. The Central Intelligence Agency told CNSNews.com today that it stands by the assertion made in a May 30, 2005 Justice Department memo that the use of “enhanced techniques” of interrogation on al Qaeda leader Khalid Sheik Mohammed (KSM) — including the use of waterboarding — caused KSM to reveal information that allowed the U.S. government to thwart a planned attack on Los Angeles.

Before he was waterboarded, when KSM was asked about planned attacks on the United States, he ominously told his CIA interrogators, “Soon, you will know.”

According to the previously classified May 30, 2005 Justice Department memo that was released by President Barack Obama last week, the thwarted attack — which KSM called the “Second Wave”– planned “ ‘to use East Asian operatives to crash a hijacked airliner into’ a building in Los Angeles.”

According to hotair.com:

"KSM initially resisted all other interrogation procedures, right up to the waterboard. He insisted that Americans did not have the necessary resolve to get information out of him, and that we would only know about the next plot when it killed hundreds, if not thousands again. Only after the waterboard did KSM cough up the information on the “second wave” attacks, and the CIA and other national-security agencies stopped it."

Is waterboarding torture, that's up to debate. But it does show that torture, and torture like methods do produce results. If they can be done in a humane way, without serious injury, I say do it, and do it again. If these methods could save the life of you, me, and the rest of America, bring out the hose. Those on both sides of the issue need to admit that torture methods do work. That isn't the question. The question is, do we use the techniques, and if so, how far do we go.

One problem with this assertion. Sheikh Mohammed wasn’t captured until March 2003, but the second wave was stopped in 2002.

Fact Sheet: Keeping America Safe From Attack
In 2002, we broke up a plot by KSM to hijack an airplane and fly it into the tallest building on the West Coast. During a hearing at Guantanamo Bay two months ago, KSM stated that the intended target was the Library Tower in Los Angeles.

The same liberals that are crying about “harsh interrogation techniques” such as temperature extremes, cramped quarters and loud music (all of which KSM and the other key terrorists were somehow able to bear for months on end) wouldn’t last three seconds under an interrogation which involved real torture.

Hell, we waterboard our SpecOps troops every day during SERE training. Let's move on to some real pain and torture and start having Joe Biden do the interrogations, that will drive them nuts.

Obama’s new interrogation technique ...
“Could you please tell us where the bomb is hidden?”
No answer.

Can’t you violent people stop and think for just 5 minutes.

Of course Waterboarding is torture. It’s far worse than using a knife to cut off a persons head.

I have seen the videos and it’s is clear that waterboarding takes much more time, thus extending the fear of death and presents far great potential for potential for damaging the victims self esteem.

I doubt that when a freshly severed head is pointed back at it’s body, the brain doesn’t continue, for all that long, for the person to recognize it’s dead body.
