Bush Abortion Rule to Be Reversed
A Semi-News/Semi-Satire from AzConservative ^ | 28 Feb 2009 | John Semmens

Posted on 02/28/2009 3:29:25 PM PST by John Semmens

The so-called “freedom of conscience rule” promulgated by the Bush Administration in its last few months will be rescinded by the Obama Administration within the next month or two according to an unnamed official. The Bush rule permits medical personnel to decline to perform abortions if they believe that to do so would be unethical, immoral, or in violation of their religious beliefs.

“As President Obama has said, the job of these doctors, nurses, etc. is to serve their patients, not to assert any moral misgivings and use that as a reason to refuse service,” the official asserted. “The argument that patients are free to seek out providers without such moral scruples is repugnant. It allows health workers to place their own value judgments ahead of those our society has chosen through the electoral process. Even worse, it stigmatizes innocent women. It’s like these doctors and nurses are saying a woman’s decision to end her pregnancy is somehow ‘wrong.’”

The official went on to describe the Bush approach as a “pathway to moral anarchy. We can’t have the social cohesion the Obama Administration is trying to achieve if just anyone is free to set his or her own moral boundaries. We’ve all got to be on the same page here. The only way to ensure that is for everyone to follow the guidance provided by their elected leaders. If someone doesn’t like this guidance they can vote for different leaders at the next election. Meanwhile, they should be supporting the team that’s in there now rather than complaining about it.”

"The government, Obama, and all the 'high places' ,where nations rise and fall, can deny the people much. They can burden us with immoral legislation and leadership. They can sell us into economic slavery. They can try to remove God from everything that WAS and IS America, but in the end the personal decision is ours. God made us free. We can choose to live that freedom every day."

Thanks. I’ve been thinking a lot about the right and best way to respond personally to loss of my freedoms. It’s a hard pill to swallow, but appears we all may have to... not without a fight. I will fight them with everything I have, but in the end if I lose the fight in the flesh, with God I still win and get to enjoy the ultimate freedom for eternity!!!

"with God I still win and get to enjoy the ultimate freedom for eternity!!

Amen to that!

Funny, but, last week, I was praying, and had kind of the same ""vibe" you did. That, no matter what the government does, it's our personal choice to be free.( You expressed it so well in your post 20.)

Personally, I think this fight can be won, (and possibly, won easily)- if the right people understand that the "battlefield" is the main stream media. We need to engage the people around us, and ( to quote a friend of mine) "Shake 'em up. Make 'em think".

We also need to have "Liberty Lessons"- some kind of basic explanations of what our freedoms are. What the Constitution is, and what it means for the average citizen. (It's not like they teach this in the public schools anymore.) And why we are opposed to most of the policies of the current administration, along with what our side's solutions are.

One thing we sorely need, is a leader. Someone who has the passion, charisma, and public speaking ability, to go out front and take the fight to the left.

Most of all we need to pray for our nation. Again, thanks for your post.

Congress had the right to ban slavery because slavery is mentioned in the Constitution. Article I, Section 2 states that slaves were counted as 3/5 of a person, in determining the number of congressmen that the states would receive. However, abortion isn’t mentioned in the Constitution. The Declaration of Independence states that all people “are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.” No state can deny a trial by jury of a right to bear arms, because those rights are mentioned, in the Constitution. However, the Constitution doesn’t mention a right to life.

I soooo agree! I think these “tea parties” were an excellent start. We just need double and triple the attendance. Everyone needs to understand that it begins with EACH of us to spread the word about what’s happening and what COULD happen if we don’t act now. Time for average Americans to get involved! Kick the jacka**es out that are destroying our country and it’s heritage...our future! The American dream is special. I believe it is God-inspired. The freedom of our nation and each individual is built on Godly principles. When we remove those... We are no longer America, a nation under God, and no longer under HIS wing of protection!

Awesome idea! We could break these down by communities and teach community leaders about the Constitution and the importance of America’s foundational documents, rights and history. Then we would hold meetings that are fun and educational and get people involved in the vision for a NEW America. But not the hope and change of Obama, but rather a great homecoming, “A JUBILEE” of sorts ...a return to the beginning but with the knowledge of the journey that brought us here! We are all smarter Americans for the journey!

Anyway, awesome thoughts!

The only reason the Constitution mentions a national right to trial by jury and a nationwide right to bear arms is because it was amended to say that, specifically in amendments 1 and 2. If the constitution hadn't been amended, the original text of the Constitution would allow individuals states to decide whether or not they wanted to allow people to have a trial by jury and a right to bear arms. Many states, if they had their own say in the matter, would decide the citizens of their state would NOT be allowed to have guns. The Congress knew this, so that's why they amended the constitution to establish it as a right in all 50 states.

Likewise, they knew that if it was left up the states, certain states like South Carolina would never ban slavery on their own, so they also amended the constitution and established that no person can own another person, regardless of what state they live in.

It is extremely unlikely that all 50 states will ban abortion on their own. Therefore, the only way to guarantee abortion is abolished in the United States is by a federal law. Otherwise, abortion will continue to be allowed in demand in certain states, just as they continued to allow slavery in certain areas when it was up to them.

Issues like owning another human being, or being allowed to kill an unborn child for any reason, are of such tantamount importance that they should be decided at the federal level, not at the state level. Human rights is not something individual states should decide.

You said that a trial by jury is mentioned in the 1st Amendment, but you’re mistaken. It’s in the 6th Amendment. I agree with you about slavery. Congress had the authority to abolish slavery, since it’s mentioned in the Constitution.
