Conservatives Need To Get Back To Reagan Basics
I'm A Pundit Too ^ | 11/13/2007 | Troy Stouffer

Over the past week, there has been a constant parade of political “experts” through the news networks to propose their recommendations to the Republican Party to renew the party. The suggestions have all had a familiar ring to them. The “intellectual” opinion is that the Republicans need to jettison their conservative values and ideals. They believe that conservatism is the reason behind McCain’s defeat and the Democratic takeover of Congress in 2006. They completely disregard any of the other competing forces weighing on the minds of the voters in the past 2 elections.

It will come as no surprise, but I do not agree with the self-proclaimed experts. I believe that the major problem within the Republican Party is not that they are too conservative, but rather that they have neglected their responsibility in educating the voters on what they believe. Of course, then they have to actually govern as conservatives.

Conservatives have never abandoned Reagan basics, the Republican Party did.

Getting back to Reagan basics is a must but the movement needs a leader to do that. So far, everyone who has indicated a willingness to be that leader gets trashed from one faction or another.

“the Republican Party did”

Apparently, the person who posted this does not know the difference between a conservative, and Republicians and RINO’s.

Ronald Reagan has the reputation of a tax-cutter because of his stirring blarney, and media lies. But in office, whether as governor of California or president of the US, he raised taxes and expanded the government. His first major act as governor was to enact withholding for state income taxes. When people had to come up with the whole amount on April 15th, it was a huge barrier to tax increases. Reagan, like Milton Friedman at the federal level in WWII, made possible a vast increase in taxes with withholding, and then he signed the tax increases while increasing state spending. The late John Schmitz opposed this conservative fraud, and was demonized for being anti-Reagan.

When Reagan was president, he cut taxes once, and raised them six times. He gave amnesty to illegal aliens, ballooned government spending, and vastly increased the deficit. He was such a big spender that Tip O’Neill’s congress passed less of it that he requested. I’ll never forget one of Reagan’s rare vetoes: of a foreign aid bill that was too small.

One of Reagan’s federal tax increase bills “closed loopholes” in many areas, and abolished the tax exemption for health insurance premiums.

Conservatives Need To Get Back To Reagan Basics

Just as Christians ask themselves, "What would Jesus do?", our mantra should be precisely the above,"Conservatives need to get back to Reagan basics."

Roger That! In 2006 Michigan voted against gay marriage 2:1, and voted down affirmative action.

If the GOP had been FIGHTING for, energy independence, balanced budgets, lower spending, lower taxes, secure borders since they took over the house in 1994 they would not be so irrelevant now. If the GOP won't come to grips with that they will continue to lose.

The people want fiscal responsibility not 11 trillion in debt with no realistic plan to reverse this trend! My family of 4 owe roughly $425,000.00. In 20 years it will be at least $1 million. Obama got enough votes from people who understand this and are willing to vote for anyone rather than the GOP! The GOP is a severely damaged brand.

[ Conservatives Need To Get Back To Reagan Basics ]

WRONG.. conservatives need to find how the republican party got into the condition it is in.. FIRST.. The republican party seems to operate as a dupe of the democrat party.. and sometimes even an AID TO IT.. The republican party is not very conservative generally..

The leadership throws the conservatives "a bone" and they fight over it..
Like starving dogs they fight..

What happens when conservatives start throwing the "the bones" BACK AT THE LEADERSHIP.. causing them to duck and weave or get hit???.. The republican party needs a serious TEA PARTY... with faux Indians in disguise...

Of course I do, the republican leadership has been hijacked by RINO’s. Conservatives though have never strayed from the Reagan basics. I do not know why you have a quarrel with my statement.

We need to get away for social conservativism and promote SMALL GOVERNMENT, FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE CONSERVATIVISM!! To me, SOCIAL CONSERVATIVE is BIG GOVERNMENT CONSERVATISM, which is an OXYMORON!!!
