Posted on 10/11/2005 3:53:42 PM PDT by coladirienzi

Senator J. Wayne(R-Red State): Good morning Ms. Miers. How 'bout them Astros? Miers:(confused) Astros? Senator J. Wayne (R-Red State): Lets get right to it Ms. Miers. My aide is giving you a copy of the U.S. Constitution and its amendments. You are familiar with this document? Miers: I am Senator. Senator J. Wayne (R-Red State): Good. Ms. Miers, in 1861 the state of South Carolina seceded from the Union. Would you please look in the copy of the Constitution I gave you, and cite the relevent article or amendment which forbade them to do so. Take your time, I realize that you probably weren't expecting this. Miers: Senator, I really can't comment on a theoretical case which might........ Senator J. Wayne (R-Red State): So, you think that a state might try to secede while you would be on the court? Miers: Well no, senator, but.... Senator J. Wayne (R-Red State): Just answer the question Ms. Miers, I'm waiting. Miers: This is settled law senator! Senator J. Wayne (R-Red State): From which emanation or penumbra do you derive this Ms. Miers? Cite me chapter and verse. How hard can that be? Miers: Senator, this is outrageous! Senator J. Wayne(R-Red State): Since you can't cite anything, I guess you're good to go with secession. Miers: NO, senator I ..... Senator J. Wayne(R-Red State): Moving on, lets talk Interstate Commerce Clause. Are there ANY limits to the federal government's power under this clause? Miers:(Looking around wildly for help) George told me that I wouldn't have to......Can we talk about abortion? Senator J. Wayne(R-Red State): Ms. Miers, Antonin Scalia really, really, really, likes this question: Are there ANY limits to the federal government's power under the Interstate Commerce Clause? Miers: Well, the government has a role to play in the implementaion of the New World Ord........ Senatoe J. Wayne(R-Red State) Better stop while you're ahead pilgrim. Ms. Miers, talk to me about the 10th. Amendment, what does it mean to you? Miers: Isn't that the thing about servants and livestock? Senator J. Wayne(R-Red State) No Ms. Miers, thats one of the commandments, and I don't think that Senator Boxer is too thrilled with you bringing that religious stuff up. I am finished for the moment, and retain the balance of my time. Chairman; Senator Boxer. Senator B. Boxer (D-Sodom): Ms. Miers, what are your views on affirmative action? Miers: Well senator, as I told Gloria Steinem, we just have to make sure that past discrimination is taken care of by a truly caring government, and.....

I hope you realize you've made a fool of yourself.

And, to boot, you should learn to use paragraphs before posting anything.

I hope you realize you've made a fool of yourself.

Aren't we quick to judge!

I would much rather hear what some potential Justice has to say about questions such as this, than whether she ever employed a nanny or a gardener; or even whether she personally believes abortion should be legal or illegal.

(But I do agree about paragraphs.)

Sadly, things have gotten so bad here that we can't even get a good zot going, because too many people agree with you......

Very long-time lurker, first time poster. A thousand pardons about the paragraphs. Mea Culpa. Mea Culpa. I wasn't aware that this is the George W. Bush, Gloria in Excelsis forum. Been Republican since 1972, voted for this guy twice, but I am tired of getting shafted.

Your scenario is dopey. Any Senator who asked a potential Supreme Court nominee about the basis for the civil war would be laughed out of the hearing room.

And your characterization of Miers as a drooling idiot, when you know nothing about her, is neither Republican, nor conservative, nor Christian, nor even something a decent human being would do.

I suggest you picked the wrong time to try to be funny.

In 1840 the question of secession would also have been regarded as risable. In 1860 it was dead serious. Gay marriage, etc., who is to say that at some future date an entire state may just say: enough! This justice could very well serve for twenty years.
The 10th amendment is important to me, does it cut any ice with you? Are you happy with an unlimited Interstate Commerce Clause. I'd bet the farm that NONE of these are even remotely touched in her hearings.
As for funny, judging from most of your posts it looks like the aliens forgot to remove somone's anal probe

As I figured, your thread is dead in under 20 posts.

The Civil War was settled 150 years ago. Everybody knows it.

And in what respect is this scenario dopey? I would much rather know what a prospective justice thinks of the legal precedence regarding the secession of the States, or their opinion of the 10th Amendment, than their stand on abortion (which shouldn’t even be under their jurisdiction.)

I’m surprised you can call yourself a conservative. To me you seem no more than a Michael Moore with a cross on your lapel.

As for the paragraphs… who cares?

Insults are the lowest form of retaliation; used only when true basis for ones arguments is fleeting.

Except when that is all that the insultee deserves. Then an insult is perfect!

You think it is conservative to make fun of a fine conservative lawyer the President has nominated to the Supreme Court? You think that you can make up questions that she wouldn't be able to answer in her sleep?

You chose to post a vanity for your first thread. You chose to attack a republican, a conservative, and a nominee of the president with a contrived and wholely baseless comedic piece lacking in merit and frankly humor as well.

Like I said, you will likely survive, if only because of the current foul mood brewing here, where it has become acceptable to fling baseless accusations at fellow conservatives because we are unhappy with uncertainty for the future. I understand the angst, but I don't have to like it.

Especially when it interferes with a good Zot.

You called a fellow freeper Michael Moore, and then had the lack of sense to say that insults show a lack of valid argument?

I mean, you were absolutely right. About yourself. But to attack yourself like that, in public?
