I said it is painful but not remembered if done at a very young age.

Perhaps but it is not very painful. Certainly much less painful than a run of the mill spanking. I remember once in junior high school when I was sent to the Dean's office for a paddling. Some of the other kids waiting their turns were sobbing and screaming as if they were facing a torture chamber. This got me nervous too. But when my turn came I barely felt that paddle. It was nothing compared to the spanikings (and whippings) that I got at home. Bottom line is that the hype about the pain of circumcision sounds like the hype I was given about the paddlings.

PJ-Comix - you think forskin is the same as fingernails. If so, you can't be a guy or you don't know what foreskin is! Hint, it is much much more sensitive than the other skin on your body.

Furthermore, circumcision in the old testament was a symbolic cutting of the foreskin - now it's almost complete removal of the specialized skin. Jesus did not promote the practice, hence the Catholic church does not require it to be performed.

And finally, why on earth should this operation be performed without consent of the person under the knife?? Babies can’t vote, that’s why. If a man chooses to have a circumcision done later in life then they can stuff a wine soaked rag in his mouth or use modern anesthetics. His choice. Do you think baby boys don't feel pain??

There is no medical reason to perform routine circumcision except that it's a money maker for the hospital/doctors. The practice is no longer recommended by the medical community, but only after pressure from men’s groups was applied in the form of lawsuits.

FGM is gross and detestable and is not on the same scale as circumcision. But that doesn't mean circumcision is okay. Go away and study the subject and get your facts straight and come back when you know what you're talking about!!!

With our first boy, we persuaded our Ob/Gyn doctor to circumcise on the eighth day, the norm for hospitals at that time being the third day. We were able to show research that indicated that the levels of anti-coagulants and pain suppressors normally peaked on day eight, and she agreed. Our son, never given to suppressing his emotions, fussed slightly at the [cold] plastic pelvic restraint used, but didn't seem to notice the cut, which was almost bloodless. The next two boys had a similar experience, none of them remember it, and we still have a very good relationship!

The doctor was impressed by the scientific backing behind what I consider to be both a spiritual covenant, as well as being a health benefit. She became an advocate of 8th day circumcision, and, with our permission, invited other staff to witness. The boys are probably glad not to remember this!

And to the oldest, who posts here, I'll say, Son, I love you, I did it for you, and it hurt me more than it seemed to hurt you!

Now, as for my daughter, I left perfection alone.
