All these diseases “suddenly” popping up all over the country. Gee, wonder what caused that. More than 16 percent of Florida's armadillos carry leprosy bacterium, scientists report.

Armadillos are not native to Florida. They were introduced into the Sunshine State on the east coast during the 1920s. A second population came into the Panhandle from southern Alabama during the 1960s.

While I have no doubt that many diseases that were eradicated or nearly so in America have been reintroduced by illegal migration I doubt the increase in leprosy is traceable to it. YMMV
