A Venezuelan teenage migrant's journey to the United States-Mexico border endured a heartbreaking moment when he had to separate himself from the pet dog who accompanied him on his long journey.
Brayan Pinto, 18, and his small fluffy white dog, Brandy, traveled through several Central and South America countries, a treacherous tropical jungle in Panama, and all the way north through Mexico in order to seek asylum with the United States government.
Brandy was given to Pinto two years ago by his mother before she passed away.
'Leaving her is like leaving a family member, like leaving a sister, a son on this side,' Pinto said.
The petite pooch and Pinto, along with his uncles, walked across a shallow part of the Rio Grande to turn themselves over to the U.S. Border Patrol in El Paso, Texas, on Sunday when he learned that he could not do so with Brandy in tow.
'They tell me that I have to leave her, because you can't cross to the other side, that they do a lot of helping us to help the puppies too,' Pinto said, as quoted by El Diario de Juárez.
In an email statement to DailyMail.com, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said that the agency follows guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in admitting dogs and other pets into the United States
According to the CDC, 'all dogs must appear healthy upon arrival. Dogs that arrive sick or injured will be required to undergo veterinary examination and testing at the importer's expense to rule out diseases that can spread to people.'
Dogs are required to be vaccinated against rabies if they are brought from one of the high-risk countries

More likely he’ll be on a roofing, concrete, or framing crew within days.
Then stay with the dog and go home.
Should’ve stayed put
Illegal alien. Not a migrant.
Damn.
And he’d been collecting up condoms and charcoal.
It would have been a fine send-off I’m sure.
If he’s seeking asylum, he’s required to stop at the first country he comes to. And seeking asylum for economic reasons isn’t on the list of accepted reasons for granting asylum. If he’s coming across the border illegally, it doesn’t matter if he turns himself in or not. He still came across the border without permission, which is illegal and a crime. Don’t sugarcoat it and try to minimize the fact that he committed a crime.
No perro Pedro!
What’s the problem???
Brandy is MORE than welcome to ‘Stay’ in the USA.
That is all.
Boo hoo. He chose to come here. We Americans have no choice about this invasion. It’s forced on us. I’ll save my sympathy for all the angel families who’ve been permanently separated from loved ones who were killed by illegals.
I call BS on that little dog making the trip through the jungles of South America, Central America & Mexico. He pry got him from a little village before he reached the border to make him seem more childlike to the BP.
If only there was a way you could have stayed with your dog . . .
BS. That dog is too well-groomed and well-fed to have gone through jungles and such. This is fake news.
He’ll be eating his dog in about six months when Brandon’s “end of fossil fuels” reaches fruition.
He’s a low life. Dog walked beside him all that way. Was emotional super for his unstable ass. Watched over him at night. He hits the border and says “adios dog”.
He’s trash.
Same goes for the boy.
since 2003, I advocated placing landmines and explosives at the border like they do in north Kand south korea border but some pesky Freepers with wimpy sensibilities tell me I’m too violent..
He and Toto should go back to the commie utopia of Venwezuela.
The US already has enough locally grown commies.
he’s an illegal alien that crossed several countries to get here. That doesn’t mean he’s a refugee, that means he’s an economic migrant. He illegally entered the country and then surrendered. But that doesn’t mean he didn’t enter illegally.
Why did he leave Venezuela? That country is a paradise because of the policies of Chavez and Maduro. I know that because Harry Belafonte and Sean Penn told us so.
If the “migrant” can make it through the jungle and the desert, he doesn’t need an emotional support dog. That said, I feel sorry for the dog.
