Not so different than FDR’s embargo on Japan which pushed them into attacking Pearl Harbor. But nobody made them attack Pearl Harbor any more than anybody made the south fire on Ft. Sumter.

I think the degree of difference is so large as to be beyond comparison.

The South did not institute any embargo until after Lincoln attacked Sumter and Pensacola.
