The “whole ‘nother Indonesian family” is his family. Lolo Soetoro’s family. They who lived in the royal(ish) compound in Yogyakarta. The elderly lady is Lolo’s mother, who Barry considered as like his own grandmother. So he has two step-grannies. Notice how he’s hanging onto the granny’s hand? The other children are Maya’s cousins. Maya spent a lot of time living there. Barry was frequently there, too. Those other men are probably Lolo’s brothers. He had many siblings.
I’m wondering about a few things, and thanks for the explanation. So the photo of the house with the fancy grated windows is that compound, or is the compound another place? That photographed house looks nice but not exactly a wealthy compound.
Also, where does the name “Soebarkah” fit in with Lolo Soetoro?
And if SAD and Lolo were married and kept house and Zero lived with them as a family unit, why are there no photos except a couple of obvious photoshop jobs? Is that because Zero was living somewhere else?
