Yankee fans crow about the team’s 26 titles but the bulk of them came from winning ONE postseason series and with players that had no freedom to move to other teams.
OTOH, their winning 4/5 in the mid to late 90s was flat out amazing. Free agency changed the game and yet they truly dominated in the modern era for a long stretch.

There are a lot of great sports franchises, but there are very few great winning teams. I don't know one baseball fan, or any sports fan for that matter, who wouldn't want their team to have a history of being winners. Do you? Sure times were different in the past. So what! A winning tradition is something Americans embrace and no professional sports team has a greater winning tradition then the Yankees. Again. Short term bragging rights is just that.
