I concur completely. I remember at Miami (Ohio) in the early '50's -- in Ara's early years there -- we were given nothing but a chance to play; and our food, and a bed. And, we worked in the dining halls to "pay" for that -- three meals a day.

Times have indeed changed -- and I refuse to turn the tube on to any college or professional football. Most of the players are indeed, bums...hired guns in an out-of-control profession.

How is it out-of-control?

Do you know how many people I've been involved in apprehending for shoplifting or how many get kicked out of bars for instigating fights, or for vandalism?

What about those punks that dropped a turkey off the overpass? Was it out of control athletics, or is it merely the fact that some people are jerks, regardless of the endeavor?

You can reminisce about Miami(Ohio) but the fact is, even BEFORE your era there were complaints about college athletics. Many didn't view YOU as pure, and here's another thing: If I'm bringing in money and helping the school support programs that don't earn any money(in fact, only suck money from the general fund) why shouldn't I be compensated or allowed to have a job during the season?
