For almost 400 years America has seen its citizens educating their children and themselves, though both the scope, structure and quality of education has changed somewhat during that time. For much of the history of the United States, education of children took place primarily at home, often along with private schools for some, and locally managed and supported schools for others. Education included the general ethos of Christianity and Biblical morality as well as academic subjects. The New England Primer and later, the nation-wide McGuffey's Readers (120+ million copies) were the primary instruments of education, and in helping to form...

Now this is what you want to see in your rivalries! Courtesy of a weather delay, Saturday night’s College World Series game between Texas A&M and Florida got off to a late start. Things didn’t get started until 10:15 p.m. CT, and with some fans already being drunk, it didn’t take very long for things to...

Tis the season for emergency room visits after inappropriately using Ozempic to lose weight for the summer. “Drugs including Ozempic and Wegovy should only be used by people prescribed them for obesity or diabetes,” Stephen Powis — the national medical director of NHS England, the country’s publicly funded healthcare system — urged last week at a conference in Manchester. “I’m worried about reports that people are misusing them — they are not intended as a quick fix for people trying to get ‘beach body ready,'” added Powis, per The Times of London.

A Virginia school district was sued this week after it restored Confederate military names for two buildings, foreshadowing a broader battle that is heating up ahead of the election. The Virginia NAACP sued the school board in Shenandoah County after it voted to change Mountain View High School to Stonewall Jackson High School and Honey Run Elementary back to Ashby Lee Elementary. The NAACP argues in its federal lawsuit that students’ constitutional rights were violated by the district’s act of reverting back to Confederate names. It invoked the First Amendment and 14th Amendment in its lawsuit, saying it “prohibits racial...

His mother said they had the same conversation with him hundreds of times as he was unable to move on, and it 'drastically changed his life'. The questionnaire was given to him by administrators at Mount Logan Middle School in Logan, Utah, on February 7 as...

Here’s a thought. What if the kids are all right? New polling shows young voters in the US are shrugging off their habit of voting left and actually thinking of voting Republican in November. In almost equal numbers to their Democrat-voting contemporaries. All this despite the daily diet of Democrats trying to throw everything at young voters to woo them. Anyone who gets daily messages in their inbox from the Biden- Harris campaign will know how hard they are trying to make voting Democrat “cool” to young voters. In the past few days alone this has included “direct messages” from...

What does education have to do with it? People who emphatically disapprove of Donald Trump — in short, Trump-haters — are likely to be college graduates, whereas people who are quite devoted to him — Trump-lovers — are likely to lack a college degree. This differential is commonly used by Trump-haters to argue that they are right and the Trump-lovers wrong. “After all,” they contend, “if we’ve had more years of education, especially higher education, it follows that we are smarter than our less educated rivals, and if we are smarter, it follows that we are far more likely to...
