Here soon, there will be more deployments @ Ft Hood. This doesn't break OPSEC concerns due to the media reporting it everywhere, although I cannot get into the specific name of the division or the battalion that we are supporting just yet. When we can, we will let you know.
One of things I and a few other folks here at Fort Hood will be doing is setting these soldiers up with little care packages for the bus / airplane ride out when they leave.(we are projecting a minimum 200-500 care packages) One of the things we want to include is letters of thanks and appreciation from people whom support our military and want them to know it.
We will be printing out all of these letters and including them into the care packages. And since no one can send letters "to any soldier" without including a specific name due to the anthrax situation that occurred, and safety reasons, we can and will be hand delivering them to soldiers. We plan to do this even after they leave. (thru Platoon Sgt's, 1SG's, etc etc. that we have as contacts) The only downfall would be we are only able to support maybe 2 battalions at this point, and that may just be it. If there is an overwhelming response, I will distribute letters to other Family Readiness Groups thru Army Community Service here on Ft Hood so they can include them with-in their own care packages to the troops they support.
It's easy, all we are asking is this;
*If you would like a service member to know how much they are appreciated, and how much of what they are doing for America is a admirable thing. (etc etc) Write them a letter and let them know. (We welcome long letters if your worried about length, + remember these letters will most likely be read on the bus, or on the plane ride out.)
*If you know any school teachers, churches etc that would like to participate, Please PLEASE give them our address or email soon.
*You do not have to give your address in your letter or even your last name. But if you would like, you may. We will encourage soldiers to write back if they wish, but ultimately it is up to them.
*All emails or letters posted to this thread will be printed out and put into the care packages along with any snail mail letters received. If time and supplies permit, we may even make duplicate copies of every letter so more than one service member can enjoy your letter.
*We will accept snail mail letters, however they must have a return address on the envelope in order for us to accept them. But your letter will be given to the soldier without your address or full name given, unless you actually list it in the letter.
