It means "Old Sergeant Major".

Smaj is a nickname, if you will, for Sergeant Major.

Use of it by the troops is sort of honorific and implies respectful affection.

I'm very proud of the fact that my troops would refer to me as the Old Smaj.

Even more so due to the fact that I attained the rank at the age of 36.

I was the youngest "old Smaj" around for a while.

I'm now retired.

Have been for nearly 20 years.

In fact, I've been retired almost as long as I was on active duty. which (and ain't nobody counting) was 20 years, 3 months and 8 days. (And about 14 hours).

So I guess, now, I really am the old Sergeant Major.

I'm enjoying my inflation/recession/depression proof retirement, but I ain't enjoying the fact that obama is the POTUS.

Liberals can kiss my ass, RINOS can FOAD.

In fact, the republican party can kiss my ass.

I'm not a republican.

I'm a conservative.

There is a difference.
