During an interview aired on Wednesday’s “PBS NewsHour,” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre acknowledged that the White House has been saying that people will fully understand the impacts of President Joe Biden’s policies once they start to feel them for years, but “it takes time” for his policies to kick in. Jean-Pierre said, “Every issue that the President is working on is popular, whether it’s student loans, whether it is making sure that we’re dealing with gun violence in a way that really helps to save and protect communities, save our young people’s lives, right? He was able to...

The past 50 years have not been good for presidential impeachment. In 1974, the Constitution worked as it should have when President Richard Nixon resigned on the brink of certain impeachment in the US House of Representatives and conviction in the Senate. With substantial proof of Nixon’s misconduct assembled by the House, Senate and special prosecutor, the public overwhelmingly agreed with removing Nixon from office. In contrast, Republicans last Wednesday voted to authorize an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden based on unspecified, undemonstrated misconduct. There is no evidence, much less any established public consensus, that impeachment is warranted or...

Three years after George Floyd was murdered by police in Minneapolis at the age of 46, Black Americans are still more than twice as likely to be killed by police as white Americans. Much has changed since Floyd’s killing, but that startling statistic from the database Mapping Police Violence underscores how much hasn’t changed all the same. Floyd’s death led to mass protests across the country and the world, and it awakened much of the country to how much change is necessary to take real strides toward racial equality and justice. Lawmakers who have pushed for change note that despite...

WASHINGTON — The story was as tawdry as they come: The president of the United States had been having sex with a former White House intern in the space off the Oval Office and now was being investigated for lying under oath and obstructing justice to cover it up. The newspaper that landed on doorsteps around Washington that morning, 25 years ago Saturday, kicked off a furor that led to the first presidential impeachment trial in 130 years and transformed politics in the capital as President Bill Clinton battled for survival. A quarter-century later, the lessons are still being debated...

The rain that fell on California in recent weeks could have supplied the state’s water needs for 10 years — if it had been captured and stored. Unfortunately, most of the water is being left to drain to the Pacific Ocean. California received some 32 trillion gallons of water in three weeks of “atmospheric river” storms across the state, according to Fox News. In 2014, the state used 42 million acre feet, or about 1.4 trillion gallons, annually, according to the Desert Sun, citing the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). (A more recent figure from USGS suggests the state withdraws up...

This year marks the 50th anniversary of president Richard Nixon’s historic trip to China. This trip is widely recognized as the moment China entered the world stage. There is a common belief among global affairs savants that Nixon made a grave mistake. In reality, however, his logic was sound, and his international policies should still serve as a guiding light. It is undeniable that China is participating in genocide and atrocities on a scale not seen in decades. China is systematically removing and erasing its Uighur population, killing dissidents, and pushing for a monolithic nation that includes Taiwan. Blaming this...

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) said on Sunday that her focus is on Michigan for the next four years when asked about a possible presidential run in 2024. “I feel really lucky to be the governor of Michigan. I have lived here my whole life. And this is where my focus is for the next four years,” Whitmer responded when asked by CNN’s “State of the Union” host Dana Bash if she would be interested in launching a presidential campaign in 2024 or 2028. “I’m going to make Michigan an even stronger place, where people come to for opportunity,” Whitmer...

Fifty years ago, when young Americans aged 18 to 20 got to vote in their first presidential election, Democrats were confident that it would be a bonanza for their candidate, George McGovern. But President Richard M. Nixon had other ideas. After the ratification of the 26th Amendment in 1971, which lowered the voting age from 21 to 18, Nixon invited 500 newly eligible voters to the White House for a July 5, 1971, ceremony, where the amendment was officially certified. “A country throughout history, we find, goes through ebbs and flows of idealism,” Nixon told them. “Time after time the...

On Friday’s broadcast of C-SPAN’s “Washington Journal,” Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT) said the Inflation Reduction Act is going to work to reduce inflation “in the longer run.” And “probably the center of that bill” is reducing prescription drug costs, which won’t be fully put in place for a few years. Himes responded to a question on how the act will reduce inflation by stating, “Well, first of all, let’s be very clear, it’s going to work in the longer run. So, the answer to your question is, probably the center of that bill was about reducing senior citizens’ prescription drug...

Public Health and Medical Professionals for Transparency (PHMPT), as its name suggests, is a medical transparency group that filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request with the FDA for documents tied to its approval of Pfizer’s BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. Further, the FDA posits that reviewing the documents and redacting exempt material will allow...

On Thursday’s broadcast of ABC’s “The View,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) stated that if we don’t take action on climate change “in the next few years,” what we saw with the coronavirus pandemic “will be even worse.” Because climate change “can devastate our planet.” While discussing the different spending packages that are currently being debated in Congress, Schumer stated that the reconciliation bill “deals with climate as well, as I think Joy mentioned. If we don’t do something about climate in the next few years, what we saw with COVID will be even worse. Because climate can devastate...
