Republican state Sen. Clark Barnes says he's going to challenge Democratic Congressman Alan Mollohan in 2010. Barnes currently lives in Randolph County, which is part of Republican Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito's district. But Barnes says he is considering moving to a residence he owns in Grant County, which is in Mollohan's district. Barnes, who was first elected to the state Senate in 2004, says he has wide ideological differences from Mollohan, a 14-term congressman.

CHARLESTON — West Virginia supporters of Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson expect to welcome his wife to the Mountain State on Monday. Jeri Thompson is scheduled to meet with supporters and volunteers in Charleston, though the campaign’s state chapter says details were still being finalized. Thompson would be at least the third presidential candidate’s spouse to include West Virginia on the 2008 campaign trail. Former President Bill Clinton raised cash for his wife’s Democratic bid while in town for last month’s Jefferson-Jackson Dinner keynote appearance. The wife of Democratic White House hopeful John Edwards was to headline an October fundraiser...

W. Virginia Elector Might Leave Bush By JENNIFER BUNDY, Associated Press Writer CHARLESTON, W.Va. - If President Bush (news - web sites) wins West Virginia, one of the state's five Republican electors says he might not vote for Bush to protest the president's economic and foreign policies. South Charleston Mayor Richie Robb said based on his research, an elector has "qualified discretion" when it comes to casting a vote. "There is an implied duty to vote for your party's candidate. But I don't think it's an explicit duty or responsibility," said Robb, a moderate Republican who has a reputation of...

I attended the Bush campaign rally in Hedgesville, WV on 8/17. It rocked!!! My nephew and I were lucky enough to get to sit right behind where the President was speaking. The only photograph that I can find showing either of us is on the Martinsburg Journal News website. It only shows my nephews head to the right of the President. If anyone can find another picture showing both of us it would be very much appreciated as this would be a great momento for him.

There appears to be an immediate need to make certain legislation be brought requiring corporate newspapers to better report news and serving the communities they cover. I just got back last week from driving across the country, I live in Washington State and drove to PA in see my wifes family and took I-80 and I-90 back home. With my Bush/Cheney sticker from 2000 in my back window along with my W-04 sticker I got a aproviel rating of about 75% judging from the honks and thumbs ups from fellow drivers. Funny how I got the 1 finger salute from the folks with the Kerry stickers. My question to you is do you vent your hate and anger at fellow drivers on the road with a...

Last night, I was told that a report was recently published by some DC think-tank. This report ranked members of congress in order of taxpayer-friendliness, i.e. it examined their votes on tax-related bills and determined where any particular member of congress came in on higher or lower taxes for their constituents. The same person who told me about the report told me that a whopping 75% of house and senate members from my state were in the top 20 LEAST friendly to taxpayers in their voting records. Have any of you heard of this report? Can you point me to...

I've seen the senate races heating up, but not nearly as much on the house seats. I'm mostly using information from DC POLITICAL REPORT and POLITICS1. STATES Alabama DISTRICT 3 - The other Mike Rogers (R) won in 02 with 50.3% over Democrat Joe Turnham(48.2%) in an open seat. So far, it looks as he is facing Democrat Bill Fuller, Ex-State Human Resources Commissioner. I haven't heard much about this race, but the first defense is hardest. Journalists, political pundits and other Hysteric Left activists are desperately trying to spin some cosmic significance out of Sunday's Spanish elections. The "conventional wisdom" is that the Spanish Election results are some sort of significant defeat for President Bush and the War on Terror. As usual the "News Media's" thinking is neither conventional nor wise. What all the various activists miss is the reality of American Exceptionalism. As much as the International Political Left hates, and try's to deny, the reality is the USA operates on a completely different political level then the rest of the world. On Sunday, the...

The reason for my apology was that throughout this primary season we have been hearing about the record turnout of voters participating in Democrat caucuses and primaries. I bought the lie. The truth is that, except for Iowa and New Hampshire, there has not been any sort of record turnout for the Democrats. Even in New Hampshire the vote was far less than what the Republicans had when they last had a contested primary in 2000. The Democrats this year had 219,787 votes in their primary. The GOP in 2000 had 239,523 votes. That 20,000 difference is major in a...

http://newsmax.com/archives/ic/2004/3/6/121052.shtml Well isn't this intresting. The "objective news media" supposed 9-11 surviors protesting Bush's ads are actually anti-war stooges financed by John Kerry's wife. Please take a moment and vist the New York Times, Washington Post, MSNBC, CBS, NBC and ABC etc to email the Omsbudsman, the Publisher, the News Editor and demand to know why they allowed clearly partisan advocates of Kerry's Presidential Campaign were presented on their "News" programs with no reference to their ties to the Kerry camp. We absolutely must demand the "News Media" be held accountable for their free advertising for the Kerry camp.

http://www.georgewbush.com/tvads/ Here is a link to the 1st three Bush Re-election ads. As expected the DNC directed its "Objective News Media" mouthpieces at CNN, NBC, CBS and ABC to generate phoney hysteria about these ads. Compared to the demogagery and lies spread by the Kerry Campaign, Moveon.org and the DNC about Bush for the last 6 months, this is probably the mildest sets of ads that have run so far this political season. Please email this link to every person on you email contact list. We need to get as many people as possible to see these ads. They are...

Republican overcomes underdog status Seizing momentum as the campaign wore on, Republican Danny Jones romped to victory as Charleston’s next mayor Tuesday night, capturing more than 57 percent of the vote over Democrat Chris Smith. Jones, energized by $75,000 worth of television ads and $17,000 in mass mailings in the last few weeks of the campaign, overcame Smith’s substantial primary campaign momentum to win. Jones said he knew he would be victorious on election night after seeing the first precincts tabulated from the West Side, where he won handily. He promised to stick with the job, in response to...

Charleston’s mayoral race is a dead heat, according to a survey done by a well-known local pollster who has contributed to Democrat Chris Smith’s campaign. According to the poll, Republican Danny Jones holds a 38 percent to 37 percent lead over Smith, with 25 percent undecided. It has a margin of error of 8 percent. Don Richardson, a consultant, researcher and pollster since his work for Democratic Gov. Jay Rockefeller, conducted a random sampling for Smith of those who had voted at least twice in the past six city elections. That poll included 149 people, contacted between Thursday and Sunday...

CHARLESTON - After tasting blood only months ago, like a roaring lion, the Republican Party wants to feast on the Legislature again - specifically, the Senate. Which is why, although no names have been tossed out, the party is aiming its gunsights on all available Senate seats - including two in southern Wet Virginia. That means the party is shopping around for someone to take on Sens. Shirley Love, D-Fayette, and Billy Wayne Bailey, D-Wyoming, assuming each runs again and survives the primary. Last November, the Republicans grabbed four of the 34 seats in the Senate, and the party hungers...

CLARKSBURG -- About 200 Republican Party supporters attended the annual Lincoln Day fund-raising dinner Saturday night in Clarksburg. It was the first time in several years the fund-raiser had been in Clarksburg, said Dick Laughlin, chair of the Harrison County Republican Executive Committee. Laughlin and other GOP officials were encouraged by the heavy attendance Saturday. The event sold out. "The Republican Party is back and kicking again in Harrison County," Laughlin said. The dinner's guest speaker, former Gov. Arch Moore, agreed. Moore noted the GOP has made several advances in the last few elections, both statewide and nationally. The party...

In the Eyewitness News-Gazette Poll, Capito recieved 50% of the vote, Humphreys recieved 32%. However, 18% of the voters remain undecided. The question is, will this week's political visits impact those numbers? Congressional candidate Jim Humphreys' will be campaining with House Minority Leader Dick Gephardt on Tuesday. On Thursday, Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito will have President Bush stomping for her. Political Analyst Danny Jones says the Presidenital visit will have more of an impact on the Second District congressional race. "Minority leader Gephardt, that's also significant, but not as significant because he won't draw that kind of crowd," said Jones.

Mike Connolly Daily Mail Staff Tuesday October 15, 2002; 11:00 AM Not even the Republican Senatorial Committee thinks Jay Wolfe can unseat incumbent Democrat Jay Rockefeller in the West Virginia Senate race. The committee can give Wolfe, 47, up to $202,000 to help his campaign. So far, they haven't given him a dime and the election is only three weeks away. But Wolfe isn't complaining too much. Editorials: Congress Wednesday October 02, 2002; 09:20 AM W.Va. needs Shelley Moore Capito, not a big-spending millionaire liberal THE Democratic Party desperately wants to regain control of the House of Representatives, where Republicans now outnumber Democrats 222 to 211, with two Independents hanging around. If the House stays Republican, the nation goes one way. If the House goes Democratic, national policies would take on a different character entirely. The divide is reflected in one of the critical races for control of the House -- the 2nd District race between Republican Shelley Moore Capito and second-time Democratic challenger Jim Humphreys.
