Well thank you Christopher for recognizing the danger. As for the word populism, it is a word made evil by dictators kings and tyrants. Only a smug self God would utter such a word.

Writing about Sarah Palin in Newsweek last month, I pointed out the crude way in which she tried to Teflon-ize herself when allegations of weird political extremism were made against her. Thus, she had once gone to a Pat Buchanan rally wearing a pro-Buchanan button, but only because she thought it was the polite thing to do.
Writing about Christopher Hitchens now, I'm pointing out the crude way in which he makes accusations against Sarah Palin.
Palin wore a Buchanan button to welcome Buchanan to Wasilla. That's all there was to it. It wasn't that she "went" to a Pat Buchanan "rally" wearing a Buchanan button. Buchanan came to her.
July 26, 1999, letter to the editor of the Anchorage Daily News by Sarah Palin:
As mayor of Wasilla, I am proud to welcome all presidential candidates to our city. This is true regardless of their party, or the latest odds of their winning. When presidential candidates visit our community, I am always happy to meet them. I'll even put on their button when handed one as a polite gesture of respect.
Though no reporter interviewed me for the Associated Press article on the recent visit by a presidential candidate (Metro, July 17), the article may have left your readers with the perception that I am endorsing this candidate, as opposed to welcoming his visit to Wasilla. As mayor, I will welcome all the candidates in Wasilla.
“weird political extremism.” Just bear in mind that Hitchens began his career as a Trotskyite (a form of Communism only slightly more respectable than Stalinism.) What he believes now is anybody’s guess.
"She combines a certain knowingness with a feigned innocence and a still-palpable blush of sex. But she should take care to read her Alexander Pope: That bloom will soon enough fade, and it will fade really quickly if she uses it to prostitute herself to the Nixonites on one day and then to cock-tease the rabble on the next.
That Scotch highball is making Chrissie a little horny.
The liberal hysteria about alleged conservatives who doubt the theory of Evolution is something they might want to see a therapist about. No one should be losing sleep over Palin's ideas about Creation or evolution. They have no direct policy applications to the presidency. If Obama (or Hitchens) is busy spending time checking charts and graphs on imaginary prehistoric monkey and gorilla genealogies he really needs to check in with a therapist and get to the bottom of that.
The trouble is that social “conservatives” stabbed real (i.e. small-government) conservatives in the back.
I’m a social conservative, and a small government conservative, just like 90 percent of all social conservatives. I’ve read a few spiels on how social conservatives have pushed big spending, but I think social conservatives are getting grouped with do-gooder libs. I’m willing to listen to your examples though.
"She didn't disbelieve all the evidence for evolution, only some of it."
What policy of vital urgency to the nation does this jeopardize exactly? Dorks won't be able to get funding to study ancient monkey sex? Secular humanist spinsters teaching high school biology will feel awkward teaching Darwin? What exactly is he worried about?
What current policy facing the the U.S. has been enhanced or improved by Obama's embrace of Darwinism?
"Yeah, Chris Hitchens, Andrew Sullivan, Vanity Fair. Pfff...whatever."
LOL! I was thinking of this yesterday, and came up with the same conclusion. Nothing they will ever be able to say about anything (especially God, goodness, and Sarah Palin) is ever going to get more than a "Yeah, whatever" from me ever again.
Slate is a leftist e-rag. With the exception of maybe Kaus, all the writers there and most of the posters are rabid, foaming at the mouth lefties. What do ya expect?
She and her husband had both attended meetings of the Alaskan Independence Partyhe as a memberbut its name, she later tried to claim, only meant "independent." (The AIP is a straightforward secessionist party.)
Didn't candidate Barack Obama entertain the notions of some Hawaiian secessionist group?
Hmmm, such a hysterical nonsensical article from Hitch...but he does grossly admit that his "cock is teased" by SP, so I will just assume he is out of mind in love.
You have to understand that secessionism is the WORST ism ever to exist, as far as an elitist leftist is concerned.
Secession trumps all their control fantasies.
Ironic that lefties regard the United States as the worst country in the world, yet they don't want anyone to secede from it and the idea that someone might be "anti-government" scares them so much that you wonder why they hate the old House Committee on Un-American Activities so much.
Meanwhile, these same lefties support nationalistic leftist secession movements all over the world--and maybe in America as well, so long as it is by the "right" people (Reies Tijerina, anyone?).
Oooooh no! A “secessionist”. What a horrible person. Didn’t like Hawaii. Jumping jimminy, what a travesty. I didn’t like it either. It’s filled with caucasian hating racists who happen to be of asian descent.
(1985 is a much less known book by Anthony Burgess, where the second part is a parody/tribute to 1984. The main trends he discerned from the year of writing (1978) were the growth of trade union power (statism), the growth of Islam, and the total destruction of the Western culture and education.)
“it will fade really quickly if she uses it to prostitute herself to the Nixonites on one day and then to cock-tease the rabble on the next.”
Another leftist who can't control his sexual obsession with conservative women. Andrew Sullivan wrote psychotically about Sarah Palin's vagina. The stuff they write and say about Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin etc is truly sick and depraved. These bitter, self-hating liberals just look pathetic with their sick attacks on conservative women.

Hitchens and the rest of the Christian bashers are a few steps behind the game. Reagan won because he knew what the founders knew, that the principles of liberty and small government require a responsible culture and the values of Christianity. Reagan may not have been a social conservative, but he knew enough to embrace us, and he welcomed Jerry Falwell and the moral majority that handed him a victory. Sarah has Reagan’s understanding of Americans and what this nation needs.
Don’t look now, but the left has won the institutional war, and they are fast destroying our economy to replace it with their own. Just exactly where do the socially moderate, the Rockefeller conservatives, intend to run in this scheme of things? It won’t work. Sarah and Republicans like her, will work, and more and more Americans see it.
Hitchens is a very vocal Atheist, and he may be bi-sexual, but he is married. One of the reasons that he hates the idea of god is that it limits his sexual activities. I would have been shocked if Hitchens had anything good to say about Palin. Hitchens used to be a member of the socialist party in England. Nothing is more offensive to Hitchens than a religious conservative.
