  • Hack the vote: Cyber experts say ballot machines easy targets

The recent cyber theft of millions of personnel records from the federal government was sophisticated and potentially crippling, but hackers with just rudimentary skills could easily do even more damage by targeting voting machines, according to security experts. In many cases, even the electronic ballots could be manipulated remotely, according to a new report. The report found that the AVS WINVote machines Virginia has used since 2002 have such flimsy security that an amateur hacker could change votes from outside a polling location. “This means anyone could have broken into the machines from the parking lot,” said Cris Thomas, a...

Phyllis Schlafly spotlights devious plan to capture even more illegal-alien votes She apparently decided it won’t be enough to rely on the 66 million people who voted twice for Barack Obama, many of whom are disillusioned by the failure of “hope and change.” Obama promised an end to wars in the Middle East, a more prosperous economy for the average American and more harmonious race relations, but all three problems have only gotten worse. Since Hillary won’t have the youthful exuberance that propelled Obama to his unlikely double victory, she plans to build a whole new electorate out of people...

Those Republicans! Here's the lowdown on 'em -- and on their lousy, lowdown approach to governing. They don't want the wrong people voting. They're "scared of letting citizens have their say." They're engaged in "a sweeping effort to disempower and disenfranchise people of color, poor people, and young people from one end of our country to the other." Don't you just want to kick 'em? Don't you just want to vote for Hillary Clinton? Which after all is the point of Clinton's demagogic tirade last week -- getting you to vote for her so she can launch new and better...

Hillary Clinton has laid out her game plan for winning back the White House for herself and her husband next year. Let's hope Republicans were paying attention. Hillary Clinton made it clear this week that she is not just seeking votes, she is seeking to overhaul the way we vote. At speeches in Texas, Clinton railed against voter ID laws, praised efforts to expand early voting periods, and made the case for automatic voter registration. In the latter case, Clinton believes every American who turns 18 should be automatically registered to vote. She also would like to see everyone already over 18 registered in a similar way, though she declined to say how she would make this happen. Clinton’s remarks on automatic voter registration come only months...

In the 2012 general election, Wisconsin had the second-highest voter-turnout rate in the nation with 73 percent of the population participating. The state trailed just behind Minnesota, which had a 76 percent turnout rate. Wisconsin also ranked second in the nation during the 2008 general election.Potential Republican presidential candidate and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker knocked Hillary Clinton for being "firmly out of touch" on the issue of voting rights just days after the former secretary of state announced her proposals championing minority access to voting. "In our state we have a photo ID requirement that would make it easy to...

The universal voter registration system that Hillary Clinton is calling for is a terrific idea. Free speech and freedom of religion are every American's right; no paperwork is required to get them. Like the system recently embraced by Oregon, Clinton's proposal would automatically register all citizens to vote when they turn 18, unless they opt out. Automatic voter registration appears to be working well enough in Argentina, Australia, Austria, Chile, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy and Switzerland, and there's no reason to think that it cannot succeed here.

In March 2012, Obama’s Justice Department blocked Texas’s voter ID requirement, claiming that it was “racist.”However, the very same Justice Department requires photo ID for everyone who enters. So let’s say that someone is denied their right to vote because they don’t have voter ID, and they...

(Hillary) Clinton said Thursday in Houston that a group of current and former Republican governors pursuing the White House has "systematically and deliberately" tried to prevent millions of Americans from voting. Clinton said the changes were aimed at making it more difficult for minority and low-income voters to cast a ballot and outlined steps to expand access to early voting and allow universal, automatic voter registration for young people. Republicans struck back Friday against Hillary Rodham Clinton's suggestions that they have attempted to disenfranchise voters systematically. They accused the Democratic presidential front-runner of running a divisive campaign and favoring lax...

HOUSTON (AP) — Hillary Rodham Clinton is calling for an expansion of early voting and pushing back against Republican-led efforts to restrict voting access, laying down a marker on voting rights at the start of her presidential campaign. The Democratic presidential candidate is using a speech Thursday at historically black Texas Southern University to denounce voting restrictions in North Carolina, Texas, Florida and Wisconsin and encourage states to adopt a new national standard of no fewer than 20 days of early in-person voting, including weekend and evening voting.... "Time and again members of the 2016 Republican field have put partisan...

Will Joe Scarborough be hearing from some MSNBC suits? You can imagine Joe being called on the carpet for having, on today's Morning Joe, not-so-subtly accused his own network of "fearmongering" the issue of minority voter suppression against Republicans. During a discussion of Hillary's planned speech of today on expanding the voting calendar, Scarborough spoke of "cable news" and "cable shows" driving ratings by "fearmongering" the notion of Republicans supposedly engaged in voter suppression. So which cable news network could Scarborough have in mind? Fox News? Nope. CNN? Meh. Googling "MSNBC voter suppression" yielded 136,000 hits, including links to virtually...

It is an article of faith among progressives that mandatory voter ID laws are racist and discriminatory. Such voter requirements, they say, unfairly discriminate against minorities and elderly citizens, many of whom do not have and cannot afford to purchase them. However, it is a well-known fact that in the United States, one must always and everywhere show a photo ID to board airplanes, rent automobiles, and purchase firearms. So why should voting, a fundamental and hard-won American right, be any different? Perhaps for these reasons, a new poll shows that the vast majority of Americans, most of whom...

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton plans to call for an early voting period of at least 20 days in every state. Clinton will call for that standard in remarks Thursday in Texas about voting rights, her campaign said. She will also criticize what her campaign calls deliberate restrictions on voting in several states, including Texas.

A series of Wisconsin voting restrictions signed into law by Gov. Scott Walker(R) are being challenged in lawsuit spearheaded by a lawyer associated with the Hillary Clinton campaign, MSNBC reported Monday. The complaint, filed in federal court Friday, alleges, "These measures were intended to burden, abridge, and deny, and have had and will have the effect of burdening, abridging, and denying, the voting rights of Wisconsinites generally and of African-American, Latino, young, and/or Democratic voters in Wisconsin in particular."Since coming into office after the 2010 elections, Walker and his counterparts in the statehouse have passed a number of new regulations to...

Greg Nash Rep. David Cicilline (D-R.I.) has proposed a bill to automatically register Americans to vote, fresh off of similar calls by Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton. “Today, too many politicians are trying to make it harder than ever for citizens to make their voices heard at the ballot box,” Cicilline said in a statement on Wednesday. “The Automatic Voter Registration Act will protect the right to vote and expand access for eligible voters across the United States. I thank my colleagues who have co-sponsored this important legislation that helps to expand one of our most essential rights as...

The late Saul Alinsky, the father of the community-organizing model that inspired both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, would be delighted. The man who championed moral relativism in tearing down the establishment (“In war, the end justifies almost any means”) is calling the tune of the Democratic party on voting issues. Last March, President Obama rhapsodized about what would happen under mandatory voting: “If everybody voted, then it would completely change the political map in this country.” Obama once served as the lawyer for the disgraced and defunct voter-registration group ACORN, and he is still toeing its line. Then last...

In the interest of helping out the editorial writers and pundits of media outlets who don’t think voter fraud occurs, I wanted to note just a few recent cases (and readers interested in seeing almost 200 more such cases can do so at this link). In McAllen, Texas, two campaign workers (known as politiqueras in local parlance) who bribed voters with cocaine, beer, cigarettes and cash during a 2012 school board election have been sentenced separately to serve eight and four months in prison, respectively. U.S. District Court Judge Randy Crane called this election fraud “terrible” and said that “our...

A majority of Democratic voters believe illegal immigrants should be allowed to vote, according to a striking new Rasmussen Reports survey. The national telephone survey released Friday reveals that more than one third of “Likely U.S. Voters” — 35 percent — say illegal immigrants should be allowed to vote if they can prove they reside in the U.S. and pay taxes. Sixty percent of “Likely Voters,” disagreed and five percent were undecided. Democrats were more likely to support illegal immigrant voting, with 53 percent supporting the idea. Republicans, however, also indicated support. According to the poll, 20 percent of Republican...

Jorge Ramos, the influential host of Univision's Noticiero Univision, said the Latino vote will decide the 2016 presidential election and that Hispanics could see a reward for providing the margin of victory. In an interview with Harvard University's Institute of Politics following a speech to students, Ramos predicted that about 16 million Hispanics will go to the polls, likely to vote Democratic based on past trends. He said that there is a "new rule" in politics — winning the White House can't be done without Hispanics."
