Vote Both the passionate group devoted to nudging Barack Obama to pick one-time fierce rival Hillary Clinton as his vice presidential running mate is over. Organizers Adam Parkhomenko and Sam Arora said they were ending their effort since all indications are Hillary would not be Obama’s number two. "Because it seems that Senator Obama has made his decision to offer the slot on the ticket to another candidate, we believe that continuing to ask him to pick Hillary is no longer helpful to our party's chances of winning in November," they posted on their website. The writing on the wall...

A Classical Liberal View of the Iraq War Citing public opinion polls and Congress's vote to require a timetable for the United States to leave Iraq, conservative stalwart commentator William F. Buckley suggests that the very existence of the Republican Party is at state. This seems a real stretch, given that the Democratic Party not only survived Vietnam but in fact routed the Republicans just one presidency later. But the situation for the Republicans is indeed dire, as Buckley argues in referring to the chances of a positive outcome for the United States in Iraq: General Petraeus is a wonderfully...

Retired General Antonio Taguba, the officer who led the Army's investigation into Abu Ghraib, recently wrote in the preface to the new report, Broken laws, Broken Lives: "There is no longer any doubt as to whether the current administration has committed war crimes. The only question that remains to be answered is whether those who ordered the use of torture will be held to account." Should those who ordered war crimes be held to account? With the conclusion of the Bush regime approaching, many people are dubious, even those horrified by Administration actions. They fear a long, divisive ordeal that...

Foxnews.com - Saturday, July 26, 2008 John McCain said Friday he thinks Barack Obama’s proposed timetable for withdrawal in Iraq is on the right track, even though the Arizona senator spent the last week hammering Obama for his military plans. Obama calls for a 16-month troop withdrawal timetable, something McCain called “politically expedient” during a forum in Denver, Colo., Friday. But then in an interview with CNN, McCain had kind words. “I think it’s a pretty good timetable, as we should — or horizons for withdrawal,” he added, echoing a phrase President Bush used in recent days. “But they have...

My reasons for leaving the Party that I’ve felt at home in since I became politically aware are numerous. I will start with quoting countless conservatives who feel as I do - I didn’t so much leave the Republican Party, it was the Party that left me. The elected Republican officials failed to implement a conservative agenda, despite having the Presidency and both houses of congress. No Child Left Behind, Prescription Drug Entitlements; they even tried to force Amnesty for illegal aliens upon us. They have given us a government that would make even LBJ blush. Our businesses and land...

My new book White Protestant Nation: The Rise of the American Conservative Movement places conservatism within the big picture of modern American history. The book traces the origins of modern conservatism to the 1920s. It explains why conservativism triumphed in the late twentieth century and why it is has fallen into disarray under the leadership of President George W. Bush. The review of my book in the New York Times by former George W. Bush speechwriter David Frum shows that at least some diehard defenders of the Bush administration do not wish to enter into in a serious conversation about...

I was reading how Phil Gramm couldn’t be more pleased with the economy while he upset John McCain greatly by saying so being McCain’s top economic advisor. Its funny but if Phil Gramm had stayed in the senate, he would likely be the Republican nominee for this presidential election cycle because he was such a favored senate leader until he quit a few days before September 11, 2001, 911. I remember his announcement about not going to seek reelection coming as kind of a shock to me personally, but not really. It was like when Enron crashed a few months...

ZOT What is a ZOT really? I mean where does the term come from, and what, exactly, does it mean? Metaphysically, is it a position, a statement, so at variance with reality and the facts that it needs to be identified by ZOT!! Does it not, really, betray our own insecurities, our need for easy labels? Just a thought.

Bush may have done a service to us all. The eight years gave us lay offs and unemployment not seen since the great depresion, wars and attrocities commited in the name of advancing american multi corporate agenda and white Christianity, we saw the rich get richer and the poor become even more poor, we heard slogans such as jobless recovery, strategery, modern economy, trickledown effect Ad nauseum. The values of Bush are the values of the capitalist system, another word for fascism. the eight years of Bush proves capitalism is a failed system. We see more debt, unemployment and 100...

Honorable Sir, I just received a survey and request for a donation in the mail with your name on it from the Republican National Committee. THERE WAS NOT A SINGLE QUESTION IN THE SURVEY ABOUT OUR ENERGY SITUATION AND THE HISTORY OF DEMOCRATIC PARTY STONE WALLING AGAINST ENERGY PRODUCTION WITHIN UNITED STATES TERRITORIES FOR DECADES. The RPN and John McCain need to grab that issue like a dog grabs a bone and chew it right into the 2008 national elections. The survey I received from the RPN was one more piece of evidence that the Republican Party has completely misread...

Prospect Park Zoo's new cats purr-fect at playing hide-and-seek BY JESSICA DURANDO DAILY NEWS WRITER Monday, April 28th 2008, 4:00 AM Rosier/NewsProspect Park Zoo’s Pallas cat makes appearance. Just like typical house cats, Alexandra and Nicholas would rather sleep than entertain humans. The 10-year-old Pallas cats have been on exhibit for about a month at Prospect Park Zoo, but they rarely make eye contact with people who stop to look at them. Zookeeper Hulya Israfil, 27, said the wild felines from Central Asia are still getting used to their surroundings. "We're letting them take their time and hopefully they'll...

Escondido, Calif. (AP) -- The North County Times fired an editor for altering an Associated Press story to read that a Los Angeles city councilman strangled a kitten at a news conference about his city's new pet sterilization law. The newspaper published a story Wednesday that read, "'We will, sooner rather than later, become a no-kill city, and this is the greatest step in that direction,' Councilman Tony Cardenas, who co-authored the bill, said as he strangled a kitten at a City Hall news conference."

by Antenna Wilde As the GOP struggles to find it's "voice", the nation seems to have run off with Obama. Looking over the charts and numbers, I find it increasing difficult to come to any other conclusion. Not only is he mopping up the blue states, he seems to be doing as well—if not better—in the red ones. Take Idaho: huge victory for the GOP in 2004 (Bush won the state with 69%). And here's Obama sweeping Idaho on Super Tuesday with a stunning 80%... to Hillary Clinton's 17. While all of Hillary victories (except Arkansas) have been in the...

Scottish wildcats: Tall tales and tartan tabbies Last Updated: 12:01am GMT 02/02/2008 A new documentary counters the myths about the wildest of cats. By Jack Watkins Despite our eagerness to devour reports of wild beasts at large on Exmoor, there are those who still dismiss the existence of Britain's most ferocious mammal, the Scottish wildcat, as a myth. Recent scientific findings suggest there are only 400 pure wildcats left "In Edinburgh and Glasgow, some people are amazed to hear that there is such a thing. "They think you must mean a feral or stray domestic cat," says Steve...

Seven years ago George bush and the republicans gave a tax cut to the wealthy. We had a recesion and as far as Im concerned we never recovered. I was working as a telemarketeer and my husband was at an assembly plant. In 2001 my husband was laid off after his job was outsourced. Then I lost my job too. My husband now works at Target and I held a job at Burger King. A week ago my job was terminated after buisness wasn't so well. Now were in another recession and Bush wants yet another tax cut? If cutting...

Toward Militarism, War, Empire, Caskets, and Bankruptcy Future of Freedom Foundation Friday, January 11, 2008 Hornberger’s Blog by Jacob G. Hornberger When U.S. intelligence agencies recently surprised the nation with their National Intelligence Estimate announcement that Iran had ceased its nuclear-weapons program several years ago, many people, including ardent supporters of the president, felt that the announcement put to rest any chance of a war against Iran. Not so fast! After all, did the disintegration of the WMD rationale for invading Iraq dissuade the interventionists from continuing their invasion of Iraq and occupying the country and continuing to kill Iraqis...

By now, readers will know who I favor in the Democratic race. Here's my most considered case. But what of the GOP? For me, it comes down to two men, Ron Paul and John McCain. That may sound strange, because in many ways they are polar opposites: the champion of the surge and the non-interventionist against the Iraq war; the occasional meddling boss of Washington and the live-and-let-live libertarian from Texas. But picking a candidate is always a mix of policy and character, of pragmatism and principle. And what these two mavericks share, to my mind, is a modicum of...

November 21, 2007 Rod Filbrandt Dear Uptight Seattleite, Where I'm from, if someone comes up and tries to engage you in a conversation about how Hillary is leading an army of My Little Ponies in a secret war against the NBA, the proper response is to avoid eye contact and move away quickly. First, I humbly ask before you comment to read my entire post. Then feel free to comment however you wish. I support universal healthcare, even if it means for the government to either mandate or subsidize medical care. I would prefer a mandate, as opposed to an unneeded subsidy, since people should be responsible for their own health. Here's why: I'm sure you are aware of the jist of the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act of 1986. Essentially, what the law says is that regardless of citizenship, legal status, or ability to pay, hospitals must provide stabilizing care...

The 60 most dangerous Questions for Muslims to hear: 1. Muslims claim, that a proof the Koran was from God, is that it contains scientifically accurate information about Embryology before man discovered it for himself. However, all the information in the Koran regarding Embryology is copied from three sources, 1. A Greek doctor named Galen, who lived of 150 AD. 2. A Jewish doctor named Samuel ha-Yehudi who lived 150 AD. 3. the Greek father of medicine Hippocrates who lived 400 BC. My question is: in light of the fact that all the information contained in the Koran was already...

For all of you out there who think G.W. Bush deserves to be impeached--I’m with you, of course--we may now have the “smoking gun” which would force the Democrats in Congress to act, even if they do not want to. This is a matter of principle, not politics. I believe a fair reading of Sidney Blumenthal’s investigative report on Salon.com of last Thursday, September 6th, provides that smoking gun. The title says it all; it is what many of us have suspected for years: “Bush Knew Saddam had No Weapons of Mass Destruction”. The story concerns the Foreign Minister of...

It may be just me but I see a compelling parallel with the situation in Iraq and the situation in New Orleans. Both have suffered though a disaster, one from nature and one man made. However, regardless of the cause both were equally devastating on the populace and the "government." In New Orleans case the people suffered several casualties but major property loss and social disruption. In Iraq's case they suffered considerably more casualties, come property loss and certainly social disruption. It's interesting to note the differences in the response of the two populaces. New Orleans appears to be waiting...

Here is the transcript. The YouTube address is at the end. * Q: Do you think the U.S., or U.N. forces, should have moved into Baghdad? A: No. Q: Why not? A: Because if we'd gone to Baghdad we would have been all alone. There wouldn't have been anybody else with us. There would have been a U.S. occupation of Iraq. None of the Arab forces that were willing to fight with us in Kuwait were willing to invade Iraq. Once you got to Iraq and took it over, took down Saddam Hussein's government, then what are you going to...

And how could they refuse? They all have a strong sense of duty and honor. They respect the Office of the President. So when the President calls, they must go. Even though they had to know they were being used. And, of course, the President and Karl Rove know what to expect from this noble group. And they must also have known that these individuals would be criticized for attending this session. But Rove and the President only care about their own political hides. They could care less who they damage in the process of covering their own back sides...

Jimmy Carter is no longer the worst U.S. president. Carter only gave away the Panama Canal; Globalist Bush is giving away our sovereignty, our language, our jobs, our social security plus he wants to give amnesty to 12-20 million illegal aliens who broke our laws. While the number of illegal aliens within our borders is not known with any precision, most estimates range from 12 to 20 million. Unfortunately these are only ‘guesstimates’ no one actually knows how many there are. Some claim it could be 30 million or higher. If each amnestied illegal only brings in four dependents, our...

Does a woman have the right to choose whether or not to have an abortion? In 1989 abortion surveys showed that 69% of Americans believed that unborn babies should be protected, while 67% believed that women should have the right to choose to have an abortion(“Abortion, the Court..“). I’ve found on the subject of abortion that there are many people who argue whether it’s right or wrong. Many people have been fighting to ban abortion for good while others want to keep abortion. I chose this topic to research because I believe that abortion is morally wrong. I know that...

We've got some real challenges facing us. FR was established to fight against government corruption, overstepping, and abuse and to fight for a return to the limited constitutional government as envisioned and set forth by our founding fathers in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution and other founding documents. One of the biggest cases of government corruption, overstepping and abuse that I know of is its disgraceful headlong slide into a socialist hell. Our founders never intended for abortion to be the law of the land. And they never intended the Supreme Court to be a legislative body. They...
