I was watching TV and saw a commercial for TurboTax and noticed that they made a more compelling argument for lower taxes than the GOP. They simply state..."You work hard. You deserve to keep as much of your money as possible. Turbotax wants to help you. Every dollar counts". Why can't the GOP articulate its point just as clearly? It's an easy argument. Replace "Turbotax wants to help you" with "Republicans want to help everyone." These guys are so out of touch with most Americans that they no longer know how to communicate in anything other Beltway BS. Maybe the...

The Piers Morgan deporation petition is going to be addressed because it passed the threshold of 25,000 votes. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2975918/posts There are 14 more days to get the required number of signatures on the petition to establish a gun-free zone around the pResident and send the Secret Service home is in the final stretch. This petition illustrates the insanity of gun-free zones, and the hypocrisy of a politicians surrounding themselves with armed guards while insisting that our children be soft targets. We have to fight the gun-grabbers on every front or they are going to win. This is just another front.

This question pertains to a diminutive woman in her mid-60s. She has a .38 handgun but has been told by a few people (shooting range owner, RTC instructor's cousin, co-worker, etc.) that the best thing to have is a shotgun. They pretty much said that sometimes the only thing a perp needs is to hear the cocking of the shotgun and he'll flee the scene. I wanted to tap into the expertise of those FReepers who are knowledgeable of such things so I can pass along the info. Also, her funds are limited (fixed income), so any recommendations that would...

People: I don't know how to broach this painful topic, but, there is something strange taking place in our country, and, indeed, throughout the entire world. What is that, you ask? It is the far-too-prevalent, far-too-long-lasting fad of men wearing purple neckties -- light purple, lavender, dark purple, solid, striped, or with patterns. Now, let me allow for some exceptions, for those with darker skin (blacks, Hispanics, etc), purple ties have probably always been worn, because, due to color-matching issues, folks with darker skin actually look GOOD wearing purple (not just ties, either). Another obvious exception would be, say, a...

It has gone unremarked upon by their peers in the media, but a few people noted it on Twitter. This morning NBC's Meet the Press featuring gun criminal David Gregory ran a graphic of the U.S. national debt clock that showed the debt at $13 trillion, a mere $3 trillion short of where it actually stands. Most notably, former U.S. Comptroller General David Walker tweeted about it.A photo of the Meet the Press debt clock fail was posted to Twitter by Rick VanMeter:As of today, the national debt is over $16,400,000,000,000.

I'm giving up on Drudge report for a while, not going to visit it. There is too much subtext going on, incitement and hyperbole, propaganda and manipulation. The picture that often accompany headlines are not in context with the 'moment' but rather stock photographs that portrait an emotion or sense of predicament that the author wants us to feel. Almost every headline for the past few months have been foreboding impending doom of some sort that I don't want to deal with or be reminded about on a daily basis. Just sticking with Fox News, they temper that stuff down...

I caught the tail end of a local DC-area radio program last week (Thursday) and I'm pretty sure I heard one of the representatives from the Nation's Gun Show say that they would no longer allow the sale of "assault weapons" at their show in Chantilly, VA. Can anyone verify this? If this is true, I have attended my last Nation's Gun Show.

I'm not going to spoil the story for anyone who has PVR'd or taped it for later viewing, but I think last night's episode was maybe a first. It involved a sniper who was picking off random drivers in NYC. Turns out the shooter is an extreme LEFT-wing environmental wacko, and the detectives basically come right out and call him that. Wow. I thought the only "extreme" people were right-wing. /s Gotta love anything with Tom Selleck in it.

It's smaller.... not a terrible amount but maybe a tank of gas a month or so, maybe more, maybe less. The Social Security tax break was allowed to expire apparently. Thank goodness,.. we all know what a great system S.S. is. This is the deal that Obama wanted and the deal we got. Check your paychecks,.... if you're lucky enough to receive one in Obama's "robust" economy,...see what you find. It's nice to know that I am one of the "rich" now. I guess if Obama can't define you as rich, then he just defines rich as.......you. Plus, as a...

What is it about the Gun-grabbing ghouls and their BSMedia minions with protecting themselves and not our precious offspring? They lost their collective cookies over the mere suggestion that armed police offices keep kids safe. In part it could be their Dracula like aversion to guns in the hands of individuals not of their security details. But you have to ask yourself why is the oppressive left so adamant about not protecting the Children? There has to be something else at work here – some other reason than Hoplophobia in the extreme – but what could it be? Why don’t...

The first juvenile mass-murder happened for the FIRST TIME in recorded human history in the late 1970s, in California. In 500 years of gun-powder combat, not once had a juvenile committed multiple homicide. We had a couple in the 1980s, and now it's out of control. So what happened? It's Pavlog Dog, said Lt. Col. Lt. Col. Grossman: our youth is being conditioned from childhood by videogames to be "First-Person Shooters, (FPS) and to associate killing, human death and suffering with reward and pleasure. Videogames are not "games"; they are mass-murder simulators, Grossman says. Our kids are being wired...

Being able to describe something accurately is the first step to understanding it, then fashioning a course of action. What happened in the House Speaker vote is that, although some opposition to Boehner began to surface, no candidate ran for the position against him. For days Mark Levin has been urging an opponent to run, but nobody did. Therefore, the options were Boehner, Pelosi, or continued votes without a winner. You can't beat somebody with nobody. Many thought Cantor was going to challenge Boehner when Cantor and the other leadership voted against the "cliff deal". They were mistaken. It's possible...

Our supervisor just notified us that the accountant will be placing a 2% increase in payroll tax on our checks per the "Fiscal Cliff" bill. They lied to the American people and taxed everyone more. Where's the media on this? Liars, liars, liars, liars, liars. Oh, so what! The people who voted that party into office doesn't pay taxes anyway.

As frustrated as you are with Washington, D.C. right now... Multiply it by 1,000 and you'll know how I feel. Washington is broke and broken. What passes for problem-solving in the United States Senate has shattered the trust of the American people. Our nation is facing monumental financial problems that the career politicians from both political parties created over many decades...and now they're busy squabbling and finger-pointing instead of recognizing our problems and buckling down to the hard work of fixing them. Clever sound bites take the place of ideas. Petty partisan attacks take the place of leadership. Brinkmanship -...

Some of you know I ran for County Supervisor and I won. I beat the incumbent Republican Supervisor (who raised taxes three years in a row), and went on to win the general. I took the oath of office today to upholds the Constitution and protect my Country from all enemies...foreign and domestic. And then we had a meeting and I fulfilled some campaign promises. A great day for me, and I wanted to share it with you.

Help! My daughter, who loves gaming, goes through headsets quite quickly. Can anyone recommend which brand and model to buy. I don't have a lot of money, but the really inexpensive headsets only seem to last a few months and therefore seem to be a poor value. I'm looking for something rugged that will last longer than an 0bama promise and will work on a Windows 7 PC.

I need to keep my land line, but I'm about ready to turn the ringer off which means real calls won't get my attention. This all really started at the change of the year, and may have something to do with the small political donations. Maybe. I don't know. But it starts in the morning and ends in the early evening. One is particular is GE Capital and I do absolutely no business with them. I went throught the "don't call" years ago. Anyone else experiencing this?

John Boehner looks too calm and resolved. The other Republicans don't appear to be coming together trying to get a group to vote against "Cry baby" Boehner. I think the Fix is in folks we are about to be "Lead" by the Doormat until he can hand the gavel over to Pelosi......

The word is out from Moodys Investor Service. The United States cannot keep its credit rating unless more is done beyond the "imperfect deal" agreed to by the political leaders of both parties in Washington. Reflecting on what was done it is impossible not to conclude that the deal was the beginning of what will be a series of European-style austerity measures coming out of Washington as demanded by the creditors holding onto this nations multi-trillion dollar debt. We have made it into the same spot that Spain, Italy, Ireland, the United Kingdon, France and Greece are. The Age of...

The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. It is time we faced facts. Politicians do not gear the vote. It does not matter why they don't, they don't. So we need to quit fooling ourselves with this "boy, will he or she pay in 2014 or 2017' for how she or he voted in 2013. It makes no difference! The fiscal cliff krap? Is just that. We are gonna pay, and we are gonna pay, and we can vote until our face turns blue. It will make do difference. You who like to look at history to tell the future......look at it! How long since the conservative...

"Thank You America" was the theme of a commercial I saw on the Rose Bowl Game telecast yesterday. The bailed out AIG was singing the praises of our tax dollars being pumped into their company from a nation that is now trillions of dollars more in debt than it was before bailouts like theirs were pushed through Congress. The pushing through Congress of band aids like the bailouts and now the new legislation called the "Taxpayer Relief Act" will not stop the trillions of dollars in debt from continuing to expand until new band aids will be needed. Who is...

Ever since the election I have been sitting back to watch what happens during the lame duck session of Congress. I have already accepted the sad fact that the Republicans where not going to do anything about all the illegal activity that took place on election day. I even begrudgingly accept the fact that they will never bring up charges of impeachment against Obama. However, for them to be so afraid of him as too give into this farce of a deal is too much for me to accept. We all agree that America is no longer the country we...

I'm sure other middle-aged adults are going through similar situations. I live on the west coast, but hail from back east, Michigan, to be precise.
