A story that plays into where we are now bears recitation. I’m working from memory here and some of the details may not be precisely correct but the take away message has stuck with me all these years. In August, 1977, a small church in Louisville, Nebraska – Faith Baptist – was raided by armed agents of the state Department of Education for running a Christian school. The ostensible reason for the raid was that they were NOT adhering to the state “requirement” that ALL schools and teachers be “certified” by the state. A judge issued an order that the...

I was wondering why my paycheck was so much less for the first check of the new year and started looking at the deductions and saw that the amount taken out for Social Security tax went up 50%. WTH! I guess we have to fund all the lazy bastards who have gone on SSDI in the last year.

I was watching TV and saw a commercial for TurboTax and noticed that they made a more compelling argument for lower taxes than the GOP. They simply state..."You work hard. You deserve to keep as much of your money as possible. Turbotax wants to help you. Every dollar counts". Why can't the GOP articulate its point just as clearly? It's an easy argument. Replace "Turbotax wants to help you" with "Republicans want to help everyone." These guys are so out of touch with most Americans that they no longer know how to communicate in anything other Beltway BS. Maybe the...

Many Americans were shocked to learn about Georgetown University Professor Louis Michael Seidman’s advocation for the U.S. to abandon the Constitution — the central document that has helped spawn America’s growth and progression for hundreds of years. As previously reported, the constitutional expert recently noted his belief (via an op-ed) that a blind allegiance to the outdated document is perilous. On Friday, he defended his controversial views about some purportedly “evil” provisions in the Constitution in an interview with Fox News’ Megyn Kelly.

This question pertains to a diminutive woman in her mid-60s. She has a .38 handgun but has been told by a few people (shooting range owner, RTC instructor's cousin, co-worker, etc.) that the best thing to have is a shotgun. They pretty much said that sometimes the only thing a perp needs is to hear the cocking of the shotgun and he'll flee the scene. I wanted to tap into the expertise of those FReepers who are knowledgeable of such things so I can pass along the info. Also, her funds are limited (fixed income), so any recommendations that would...

It is clear to any man or woman of honor, that America has fallen from the mortal pantheon of Great Nations. We have, as a people, dwindled into a selfish and self-seeking lot, whose primary focus vacillates between maintaining our grasp of pop-culture, and making sure our prodigious guts are filled. It was not always thus: There was a time when we embraced God; when we would reach out to our fellow man in charity; when we would help nations in distress. Now, as we slide to socialism and communism, where the State enforces a 'charity of poverty', as opposed...

It has gone unremarked upon by their peers in the media, but a few people noted it on Twitter. This morning NBC's Meet the Press featuring gun criminal David Gregory ran a graphic of the U.S. national debt clock that showed the debt at $13 trillion, a mere $3 trillion short of where it actually stands. Most notably, former U.S. Comptroller General David Walker tweeted about it.A photo of the Meet the Press debt clock fail was posted to Twitter by Rick VanMeter:As of today, the national debt is over $16,400,000,000,000.

The first juvenile mass-murder happened for the FIRST TIME in recorded human history in the late 1970s, in California. In 500 years of gun-powder combat, not once had a juvenile committed multiple homicide. We had a couple in the 1980s, and now it's out of control. So what happened? It's Pavlog Dog, said Lt. Col. Lt. Col. Grossman: our youth is being conditioned from childhood by videogames to be "First-Person Shooters, (FPS) and to associate killing, human death and suffering with reward and pleasure. Videogames are not "games"; they are mass-murder simulators, Grossman says. Our kids are being wired...

Do not increase the federal debt ceiling. Increasing it beyond $16,000,000,000,000 is unsustainable and unjustifiable. Petition: http://wh.gov/UpGJ

John Boehner looks too calm and resolved. The other Republicans don't appear to be coming together trying to get a group to vote against "Cry baby" Boehner. I think the Fix is in folks we are about to be "Lead" by the Doormat until he can hand the gavel over to Pelosi......

The word is out from Moodys Investor Service. The United States cannot keep its credit rating unless more is done beyond the "imperfect deal" agreed to by the political leaders of both parties in Washington. Reflecting on what was done it is impossible not to conclude that the deal was the beginning of what will be a series of European-style austerity measures coming out of Washington as demanded by the creditors holding onto this nations multi-trillion dollar debt. We have made it into the same spot that Spain, Italy, Ireland, the United Kingdon, France and Greece are. The Age of...

TOPEKA, Kan. -- A sperm donor in Kansas is fighting a state effort to force him to pay child support for a child conceived through artificial insemination by a lesbian couple. William Marotta, 46, of Topeka said he is "a little scared about where this is going to go, primarily for financial reasons," The Topeka Capital-Journal (http://bit.ly/132b7Ji) reported Monday. When he donated sperm to Angela Bauer and Jennifer Schreiner in 2009, Marotta relinquished all parental rights, as well as financial responsibility for the child. When Bauer and Schreiner filed for state assistance this year, the state demanded the donor's name...

Are there any elected Democrats who will put the survival of their country ahead of their Party? Are there any elected Democrats who care about the excessive spending their Party demands? Are there any elected Democrats who will defy their 'leaders' and put future generations ahead of the immature Socialists who have control of this country? $41 dollars of tax hikes for each $1 in spending cuts??? And they aren't spending cuts anyway??? This will put the final nail in the coffin of the once revered American Dream.

Per drudge the tax deal would be 400k for Indiv and 450k for family. So why get married? Two single taxpayers would in theory have 800k limit ala Andrew cuomo and his gf. Obama's base is single people. Also in France they overturned their tax law for this very reason!
