He will go down in history as the guy who called the victims of September 11 “little Eichmanns”—a reference to the notorious Nazi bureaucrat who helped ship hundreds of thousands of Jews to concentration camps. Ward Churchill’s comment, included in a long-forgotten essay dug up by an enterprising journalism student, stirred a national debate about the power of unpopular words—and the proper consequences for those who use them. But the saga of the tenured University of Colorado ethnic studies professor grew more complicated in 2006, after allegations surfaced that Churchill had plagiarized, falsified or misrepresented some of his other scholarly...

The University of Colorado Student Union has passed a resolution supporting the university administration's decision to fire controversial ethnic studies professor Ward Churchill. In early 2005, Churchill became embroiled in controversy over an essay calling some Sept. 11 victims “technocrats” and comparing them to an infamous architect of Nazi policy. Later that year, CU formed an investigative committee to examine allegations of research misconduct against Churchill. In spring, the committee announced findings that Churchill plagiarized some of his work. Two months ago, interim CU-Boulder Chancellor Phil DiStefano announced his intention to fire the tenured professor. By passing a resolution late...

Queer Orthodoxy at the University of Colorado By Jon SandersFrontPageMagazine.com | June 8, 2005Academic Marxism shows up clothed in the attire of many scholarly courses of study. In its most recent incarnation, academic Marxism makes an entrance as the sexy bedfellow of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) Studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder. There, in diligent pursuit of scholarly material, co-director of LGBT studies and English professor Mark Winokur explored the Internet. But such a research tool as the computer is not without its ethical problems for Professor Winokur. With the peculiarly tortured conscience of a Marxist, Winokur...

The University of Colorado made news again April 15. The Colorado Board of Regents appointed former conservative U.S. Sen. Hank Brown (R.-Colo.) the university's 21st president in the university's history. Throughout the state of Colorado there seemed to be collective sighing of relief. From the governor, the legislature, Colorado University Foundation, administration to the faculty, there is enthusiastic support for Brown's appointment. GOP Gov. Bill Owens said: "Sen. Brown is known throughout the nation -- and around the world -- for his keen intelligence, his strong leadership skills and his quiet common sense. As a United States senator, a university...

DENVER - Conservative Internet blogger Hugh Hewitt says he would like the opportunity to be the next President of the University of Colorado. Hewitt says CU needs a president who can do a good PR job for the school. "I've been a professor for 10 years at Chapman University Law School so I know about faculties, but I think the most important thing is that you listen to the public," Hewitt said. "You be aware of what they expect out of the university and you communicate that to the people who make up the faculty and you take care of...

When queried by reporters concerning his views on the assassination of John F. Kennedy in November 1963, Malcolm X famously -- and quite charitably, all things considered -- replied that it was merely a case of "chickens coming home to roost." On the morning of September 11, 2001, a few more chickens -- along with some half-million dead Iraqi children -- came home to roost in a very big way at the twin towers of New York's World Trade Center. Well, actually, a few of them seem to have nestled in at the Pentagon as well. The Iraqi youngsters, all...

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Gary Barnett, the University of Colorado's head football coach, is in the midst of a college recruiting sex scandal, which has stirred up allegations regarding Barnett's tenure at Northwestern University. Barnett said he knows nothing about allegations at Colorado that strippers were used to entice recruits to enroll. One former Northwestern player says the same thing happened to him when Barnett was coach of the Wildcats, but that player also says Barnett never knew recruits were enticed by exotic dancers. David Beazley won two Big Ten championships at Northwestern as part of two teams Barnett led to...

Coulter gets what she wanted at CU Conservative author says she thrives on battling liberal critics By Aimee Heckel, Camera Staff Writer November 14, 2003 Ann Coulter knew what she was getting into when she agreed to speak at arguably the most liberal hotbed in Colorado on Thursday night. That's why she came. "How many normal females are going to want to stand up and be called a Nazi and a racist?" said the conservative author and columnist. "As luck would have it, I happen to enjoy it. ... It perks me up to see liberals have nothing in the...
