CNN) -- To all of you gun lovers, feel free to go buy your Glock, shotgun, hunting rifle, .22 pistol, .357 Magnum or any of the other guns at your disposal. But you do not need an AK-47. For some, it's too soon to discuss gun reform, a little more than one week after the mass killings in Aurora, Colorado. I disagree. Too many Americans are being killed by guns every day; this most recent heinous tragedy should not keep us from having a rational debate.

Reports that Romney donors may be subject to special audits by federal agencies were brushed off as “no big deal” by Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner this past week. One targeted businessman, Frank VanderSloot, says that since donating a million dollars to presidential candidate Mitt Romney he has been notified by both the IRS and the Department of Labor that they will be looking into his records. “I don’t know what VanderSloot is so worked up about,” Geithner said. “Using federal agencies to put some heat on those opposing the President has a long tradition in American politics. FDR did it....

The phone rang before sunrise. It woke Craig Patty, owner of a tiny North Texas trucking company, to vexing news about Truck 793 - a big red semi supposedly getting repairs in Houston. "Your driver was shot in your truck," said the caller, a business colleague. "Your truck was loaded with marijuana. He was shot eight times while sitting in the cab. Do you know anything about your driver hauling marijuana?" "What did you say?" Patty recalled asking. "Could you please repeat that?" The truck, it turned out, had been everywhere but in the repair shop. Commandeered by one of...

“Obama still wants Congress to reinstitute a federal ban on military-style assault weapons … but the president is not and has not been pushing for that ban … There are things that we can do short of legislation and short of gun laws.” - White House Press Secretary Jay Carney In yesterday’s column, I noted that President Obama seems to be responding to pressure from gun control advocates in a way that he has previously avoided. I must not have been the only one to sense the change in the political winds flowing from the White House because today, White...

A recent New York Times article admitted that it, along with other major “news” outlets, allows the White House to censor what it publishes. The basic protocol is for the media to submit a draft of a proposed piece to the White House for review prior to publication. The White House then edits the piece and returns it. “It can be irksome at times,” Times reporter Jeremy Peters admitted. “But what choice do we have? If we don’t cooperate we’ll be cut off from access. And for what? It’s not as if we aren’t 100% behind the Administration on virtually...

Oh joy. We received our 2012 "American Community Survey" this week, the gazillion page long form that government experts assure me will take only 38 minutes to fill out. Below are the samples of the extremely obnoxious questions on the current form (courtesy of RyanUS at DemocratUnderground who complained about this government intrusion in his life!). I'm giving them the basics and expect to be harrassed the next six weeks until they finally go away.

Though it would seem that Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy's opinion that marriage is an institution between one man and one woman is protected by the Constitution's First Amendment, mayors in three cities have vowed to punish this heresy. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel says he “will do everything in my power to prevent such a vile establishment from setting up shop in my city. Mr. Cathy's values are not Chicago's values.” In addition to Cathy's views on marriage, Emanuel also found the restaurant's policy of closing on Sunday's problematic, calling it “an unacceptable 'holier than thou attitude.' People need to eat...

Welcome to the bizarre world of banking regulation. Despite the recent disaster wrought by affirmative action lending, Washington ratchets up still more politically correct requirements and shifts the measure of discrimination towards “disparate impact.” Even unbiased behaviors are subject to penalty unless they benefit protected classes. It’s no longer blind justice meted equally before the law. “Diversity” has become Washington’s Holy Grail, discharging unequal justice in preference for specific outcomes. The burden on businesses expands beyond banning discrimination into virtually requiring reverse discrimination. Recall before the Great Recession, banks supposedly did not sufficiently extend credit for minorities and less affluent...

Democratic senators included an amendment in the cybersecurity bill that would limit the purchase of high capacity gun magazines for some consumers. Shortly after the Cybersecurity Act gained Senate approval to proceed to amendments and a vote next week, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), a sponsor of the gun control amendment, came to the floor to defend the idea of implementing some “reasonable” gun control measures. The amendment was sponsored by Democratic Sens. Frank Lautenberg (N.J.), Barbara Boxer (Calif.), Jack Reed (R.I.), Bob Menendez (N.J.), Kirsten Gillibrand (N.Y.), Schumer and Dianne Feinstein (Calif.). S.A. 2575 would make it illegal to transfer...

Because Mr. Obama's loaded comments at a recent campaign stop about 'You didn't build that', have become more than merely a blip in the news cycle, but instead, a rallying cry for us to defend Free Enterprise and all its corollary values, I decided (with some gentle pushes from friends), to craft a stinging rebuttal to Obama' sentiments. However, since much has already been written, I endeavored to look at this from an inverse perspective and essentially turn the tables on the President. If the responses from the select group that has previewed this are any indication of success, I...

President Obama has added his voice to the push for limits on Americans' gun use in the wake the massacre last week at a movie theater in Colorado. Obama, speaking Wednesday evening to the National Urban League, affirmed his belief in Americans' right to own guns, but he singled out assault rifles as better suited for soldiers than civilians. "I believe the Second Amendment guarantees an individual the right to bear arms," Obama said. "But I also believe that a lot of gun owners would agree that AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers, not on the streets of our...

UNITED NATIONS – The arms trade treaty being hammered out by the United Nations is nearing completion, and the current draft shows it could lead to perpetual attacks on the U.S. Constitution’s Second Amendment and American foreign policy, critics say. The document, which critics say has been framed by countries hostile to U.S. interests, allows for future amendments to be approved by just two-thirds of states showing up at an amendment conference. That means it could be agreed to by the U.S., put into effect and then changed over Washington's objections. And even if the U.S. Senate refuses to ratify...

I have a dream to counter the nightmare of Aurora. I see four ex-presidents standing together, speaking truth to the American people. Here is what they would say:"Our fellow Americans, we have come together not as Democrats or Republicans, but as men who have been privileged to lead this great country. We all treasure the constitution and the Second Amendment. We believe that Americans have the right to own guns. But that amendment does not entitle citizens to own combat weapons like the assault weapon that the shooter used to kill 12 and wound 58 more in a Colorado theater....

As U.S. senators digest a sharply critical committee report confirming massive international money laundering by global banking giant HSBC, the Internal Revenue Service is acknowledging receipt of a whistleblower claim from a former employee of the bank who presented 1,000 pages of evidence to WND six months ago, after local and federal authorities ignored him. A series of WND stories, reported evidence collected by John Cruz, a former vice president for HSBC who documented hundreds of millions of dollars in suspicious transactions pulled from a bank computer system. I always thought that the perpetrators rifled through Clinton's and McCain's files to make it look as if they were looking for dirt on all three, but that it was Obama's passport records that they were actually interested in accessing. Thus, secondarily, almost as an afterthought, there were "violations" concerning Clinton and McCain. For who stood to gain from a tampering, and why? There is no way to tell what might have been done to Obama's passport records by those who accessed them. Key information could have been altered or destroyed. On April 8, 2008, after the breach became public,...

That’s not easy to do for a wannabe tyrant with no respect for the Constitution, one who has systematically concealed every meaningful document about his personal history, one who has “fundamentally transformed America” into something much less than the shining city on a hill Ronald Reagan envisioned, one who personally directed his White House and Justice Department to run guns to Mexican drug cartels so they could be used to kill at least U.S. law enforcement agents and probably hundreds of U.S....

John Solomon, writing in the Washington Guardian, is reporting today that B. Todd Jones, the Acting Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), released a video last week to all employees. In the video, Jones warns that there would be “consequences” for any employees who report wrongdoing outside their chain of command. He is supposed to improve morale and instill a new culture in the aftermath of that scandal. Jones' precise words are:...

President Obama’s campaign trumpets compassion while portraying Mitt Romney’s business acumen as immoral. Obama presumes righteous superiority, but how is exploiting the poor for political props presidential? Why must Romney justify success? How, two decades after communism collapsed, does antagonistic class rhetoric retain credibility? Liberals paint free markets as morally lacking by bemoaning that capitalism plunders workers and pillages the environment. Progressives compare real world capitalism – distorted by fallen man and political intrusion as it inevitably exists – against theoretical ideals never attained anywhere, leastwise in socialist systems prone to oppression and ecological calamity. Progressives exaggerate the excesses and...

Speaking on Fox and Friends this morning, Dick Morris explained that when the US signs such an international treaty, the nation is bound until the Senate rejects it or the President renounces it. In just nine days from now, the terms of this treaty will be finalized. Morris went on to say that this heinous agreement -which would in-affect repeal the the Second Amendment and deny us all of the divine right to self-defense- will likely be signed by Obama... then Harry Reid will simply...
