  • Americans Get Hundreds Of TV Channels, Can Still Only Handle 17

It seems every year Americans have more TV channel options than the year prior, but one number has remained consistent — 17. That’s the average number of channels viewers actually tune in to. In 2013, the average TV home received 189 channels, up from 129 in 2008, according to a new report from Nielsen. Back in 2008 Americans tuned in to an average of 17.3 channels, as opposed to this year’s 17.5 figure. Maybe that’s all we channel-surfers can handle. “This data is significant in that it substantiates the notion that more content does not necessarily equate to more channel...

Wednesday, 'Wheel of Fortune' had a very inspirational contestant in Trent Girone. The 21-year-old Peoria, Ariz., resident is a self-described "Wheel of Fortune" fanatic, but more important, he's the first special needs contestant ever to compete on the show.Girone has had nine brain surgeries and has both Asperger's and Tourette's syndromes, but that didn't stop him from taking early control of the wheel by successfully guessing the first puzzle, "a smashing success." Girone ultimately didn't win the game -- he hit the dreaded Bankrupt slot -- but he won viewer hearts from coast-to-coast.  WATCH:

CNN announced a new prime-time lineup Thursday that includes Jesus... Most provocatively, the network announced at its upfront presentation to advertisers in New York City, The Jesus Code, a series which promises to take viewers on a “forensic and archaeological journey through the Bible” (cue jokes about CNN looking for a ratings miracle). Religious-themed programming has been considered hot since History stunned the industry with its ratings-shattering The Bible miniseries last year. The Jesus Code “will take viewers on a thrilling high-stakes journey through forensics, biblical archeology and forgery in history, exploring the evidence of Jesus’ existence by questioning the...

  • 'How I Met Your Mother' wraps up an impressive nine-year run with legendary finale

Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor) sits his son and daughter down to tell them how he met their mother. That’s the way “How I Met Your Mother” began, on Sept. 19, 2005. Nine seasons and almost nine years later, Ted is less than 48 hours from getting to the point. It’s a tossup which is more impressive here: that a sitcom could last 200 episodes with what sounds like a one-idea premise, or that a parent could keep his kids listening to him talk about anything for nine years. But if Mosby’s kids wanted the answer, they didn't have much choice....

In response to Comcast’s (CMCSA) $45 billion buyout of Time Warner Cable (TWC), Dish Network (DISH) has reportedly sent feelers out to rival DirecTV (DTV) about a possible combination of the two satellite television companies. The potential tie-up would marry the two largest U.S. satellite TV operators, creating a juggernaut with about 34 million subscribers. According to Bloomberg News, Dish Chairman Charlie Ergen recently approached DirecTV CEO Mike White about a merger. White is reluctant to go ahead with formal talks due to concerns about opposition from antitrust regulators, the news service said.
