"Goebbels With Better Hair"By Ben JohnsonFrontPageMagazine.com | 7/14/2008 When I referenced Tony Snow last Friday as one example of the Left’s death wish against itstheir enemies, I had no idea he would be dead before the weekend was over. Snow served as the model for all future White House spokesmen, in addition to his accomplishments as a television journalist. His loss saddens everyone at FrontPage Magazine. Unfortunately, it has gladdened the hearts of many on the Left. An L.A. Times editor approved hateful comments on Snow’s obituary. CNN’s iReport quickly filled with bile. However, the left-wing “alternate media” (so named...

The late Tony Snow — how odd it is to write “late” before Tony’s name, and how sad — was an editorial writer and columnist, the host of “Fox News Sunday” for seven years and of a radio talk show for three, and a speechwriter in the White House of the first president Bush and press secretary for the second. We were twice colleagues (at the first Bush White House and at Fox), and throughout our two decades together in Washington compatriots and friends. I could easily dilate on Tony’s impressive achievements in journalism and government, and on the remarkable...

Free Republic Exclusive Fred Phelps, leader of the "God-hates-faXs" movement, is planning on crashing the funeral of one of our War Dead on July 4th. Why? To spread his message of anti-homosexual SPAM in the most inappropriate way imaginable. There's a time and a place for everything. He's a publicity whore, as far as I'm concerned. Here are snips from an earlier FR Report: "A SF SGT E-5, James Stewart, will be buried in St. Petersburg, Florida on July 4, 2005. It's wholly appropriate that he be buried on our nation's birthday, because Sergeant Stewart gave his life for our...

When it comes to Ronald Reagan, we are all pointillists, hoping to create a whole portrait from dots of experience. Consider four scenes from late in his public career: Scene One: President George H. W. Bush is sitting in the presidential limousine after visiting the Reagan office in Los Angeles. "He's such a great guy," Bush says, smiling and shaking his head in wonderment. He describes a private meeting — just the two presidents and Bush's national-security adviser, Brent Scowcroft. Reagan broke the ice with a joke, leavened a conversation with a few stories, and afterward treated the entire entourage...

Tony Snow Dead at 53, A Tribute to a Catholic Journalist By Deacon Keith Fournier7/12/2008 Catholic Online (www.catholic.org)"It’s trendy to reject religious reflection as a grave offense against decency. That’s not only cowardly. That’s false. Faith and reason are knitted together in the human soul. So don’t leave home without either one." President George W. Bush (L) and White House Press Secretary Tony Snow return from an event at the Quantico Marine Base to the White House in Washington, September 14, 2007. Snow, who battled colon cancer, has died. CHESAPEAKE, VA (Catholic Online) – Tony Snow, whose Catholic faith, superb...

Naval Observatory Washington, D.C. 4:26 P.M. EDT Q Mr. Vice President, thank you so much for talking with us. How important was Tony Snow's voice over the past two decades in the conservative movement? THE VICE PRESIDENT: Well, he was a major player in the conservative movement, and the way I think of Tony is he's unique in terms of the extent to which he knew the news side of the business; then as a commentator and -- but also somebody who worked as part of the White House staff as a speechwriter and of course as press secretary. And...

Former White House press secretary Tony Snow died Saturday after a long battle with colon cancer. He was 53. His father, Jim Snow, 76, who lives in The Villages in Lake County, talked about his son with Sentinel reporter Gabrielle Finley. "I saw him in the hospital, spent four or five days with him. I think the hardest thing is he looked like he was making a recovery on Thursday. "His sister called me Thursday and said he had been able to sit up for about 15 minutes and they had reduced the amount of oxygen he had been on....

The profession of journalism has lost another great. Tony Snow, the affable anchor of Fox News Sunday, host of his own radio talk show and Press Secretary under President Bush, lost his valiant battle with colon cancer on Saturday at the age of 53. Snow left a legacy of true professionalism and fair play in a business that can often be brutal and harsh when covering the political landscape. To a person, he had the respect and admiration of those he encountered; from the high and powerful in Washington, to the press corps he had to deal with as the...

Two political icons that cast considerable shadows led the headlines this week. One for his desire to return to the lynchings of the slavery era - through literal castration, the other for his enormous generosity, sense of fair play, and kindness. On Father's Day 2008, when Barack Obama claimed that any "fool" could have child he could have easily addressed those comments directly to the Rev. Jesse Jackson. When Obama also claimed it took a "man" to raise a child, he would have been hard pressed to find a more brilliant example than former press secretary Tony Snow. One had...

I'm very saddened to learn of my friend, Tony Snow's passing from cancer, this morning. I've known Tony for more than two decades--since I was literally in junior high school, and he was an editorial writer for The Detroit News before it transformed into the Detroit Newsistan. At that time, the newspaper was actually worth reading, and under then-Editorial Page Editor Thomas Bray, Tony was a rising star as his deputy. Tony was not afraid to write very pro-Israel editorials in the face of rising Muslim and Arab whining in town. My dad introduced me to Tony's writing in the...

At long last, has the Associated Press lost all sense of decency? The AP's story (saved here for future reference in case the wire service is embarrassed into revising it; you might consider saving it too as Exhibit A on how far over the cliff the dinosaur media has driven itself) by Douglass K. Daniel, with Jennifer Loven contributing (I might have known), gets in at least three cheap, fundamentally untrue, and totally uncalled-for shots at Tony Snow, who died earlier this morning.

This is quite a look back, and an emotional one at that. I found this video tonight from the MSNBC website. This was taken while Tony Snow was still alive, and great compassion was shown by David Gregory. I truly believe that anyone who worked with Tony had a deep respect and admiration for him.

Live on FOX (no link yet): Bob Beckel just told a story about how one day he was so hungover that Tony Snow wrote a speech for him, with Beckel adding something like "from the liberal viewpoint, attacking conservatives." I find this very hard to believe. Not that I have ever believed Bob Beckel, but this just seems over the top. Hopefully more tech savvy FReepers will be able to post the video of this O'Reilly segment when it's available.

He was a Kentucky native who rose through the ranks, to become one of the nation's most prominent figures. Former White House press secretary Tony Snow, 53, died Saturday after losing a battle with colon cancer. Snow was born in Berea, Ky., and grew up in Sharonville, Ohio, before he graduated from Princeton High School in 1973. Classmates Share Memories Of Tony Snow While he is likely best known for his time in Washington, D.C., and as an anchor on Fox News, many who grew up with him said they still remember him as a friend. "[He was] funny, charming,...

Former Presidential Press Secretary Tony Snow, who died Saturday morning, was a 1977 graduate of Davidson College who remained engaged with the college throughout his professional career. Davidson presented him with its Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2002 when he attended his class’s 25th reunion. Davidson College President Thomas W. Ross offered condolences to Mr. Snow’s wife, Jill, and the couple’s three children. “Tony was one of our most outstanding alumni and we are proud of all he accomplished and contributed as a journalist and government servant during his much too brief time with us,” President Ross said. “Even after his...

It's a sad Saturday morning for Washington's extended family. Fox News reported this morning that Tony Snow, who valiantly battled a merciless colon cancer in the public eye, passed early this morning. He was 53. Snow brought humor and vigor to the podium as President Bush's press secretary after a career at Fox News that had made Tony one of the nation's most famous conservatives. On White House trips, he was a red-state rock star, with throngs of admirers lining up for a handshake or an autograph. Fox said he died at Georgetown University Hospital at about 2 a.m. He...

Nobody dislikes Tony Snow. By acclamation, people who know him say the White House press secretary is the most decent, kind and encouraging human being they have ever met. Speaking from personal experience, I can testify not only to his inner warmth and outer kindness, but also to the goodness of his wife, Jill, and their three children. The return of Snow’s colon cancer comes only days after Elizabeth EdÂwards announced the return of her breast cancer. Snow was quick in his warm comments about the wife of the presidential candidate, which came just days before the discovery that cancer...

Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Jill, and their children, Kendall, Robbie, and Kristi. The Snow family has lost a beloved husband and father. And America has lost a devoted public servant and a man of character. “Tony was one of our Nation’s finest writers and commentators. He earned a loyal following with incisive radio and television broadcasts. He was a gifted speechwriter who served in my father’s Administration. And I was thrilled when he agreed to return to...

We get repeated chances to learn that life is not about us—that we acquire purpose and satisfaction by sharing in God's love for others. Sickness gets us partway there. It reminds us of our limitations and dependence. But it also gives us a chance to serve the healthy. A minister friend of mine observes that people suffering grave afflictions often acquire the faith of two people, while loved ones accept the burden of two people's worries and fears.

It appears the good folks at the Huffington Post have a firm grasp on the hatefulness of their members, for the article published there on Saturday concerning the passing of Tony Snow is not accepting comments. I guess Huffington's employees anticipated disgusting remarks about the former White House press secretary, and rather than deal with them on an individual basis chose to prevent them completely. This seems a good decision considering the disgraceful behavior of HuffPosters in February 2007 when a homocide bomber struck outside a military compound in Afghanistan where Vice President Dick Cheney was staying. Michelle Malkin preserved...

Three years ago I was invited to attend the annual Television and Radio Correspondents Dinner in Washington, DC. Before and after the big shindig, all the major news organizations throw parties in the same hotel. I attended the Fox News event, and Tony Snow was there. I had never met Tony and he didn't know me from Adam. I was just a neophyte blogger from this new site, NewsBusters. Nevertheless, Tony greeted and spoke with me warmly, and I had a very powerful sense of someone who, in a manner rooted in his religious faith, truly cared about others. As...

All of the many tributes to Tony Snow are true: good man, great husband and father, kind, self-effacing, always concerned more about others before himself, without guile (of how many in the news business could that be said?). I had the privilege of knowing Tony on another and far deeper level. When he was at FOX in Washington, I would often visit with him in his office. You can tell a lot about a man who brags on his wife and children without prompting. Tony loved Jill, completely and unconditionally. I have rarely seen such love in a man for...

As tributes to this fine man pour in from all over the world, Catholic Online offers our prayers to his family and our deepest condolences on their loss. Tony Snow’s heroism in fighting cancer was another sign of the character which informed his stellar career as well as his commitment to family. In his address to the graduates of Catholic University he spoke these words:... But see, there’s more. Once you’ve gotten past the mirror phase, then things begin to get really interesting. You begin to confront the truly overwhelming question: Why am I here? And that begins to open...

If you want evidence of CNN’s use of the 2008 primary season to chart its resurgence in the cable TV news wars, look no further than today’s announcement that the Atlanta-based network has hired former White House spokesman Tony Snow as a “political contributor.” Prior to his stint in the Bush administration, which ended last September, Snow was a dominant personality for Fox News. In What's So Great About Christianity, Dinesh D'Souza is skeptical of skepticism and enthusiastic about the faith. There are two types of Christian apologetics. One makes the positive case for faith; the other responds to critics. Dinesh D'Souza's delightful book, What's So Great About Christianity, falls into the second category. It sets out to rebut recent exuberant atheist tracts, such as Christopher Hitchens's God Is Not Great and Richard Dawkins's The God Delusion. [Snip] This leads us to perhaps the strongest argument against atheism, which D’Souza makes only indirectly—the argument from experience. Atheism cannot reach our hearts. A rigorous atheist...
