The media, the politicians, the race-baiters - they all told you the story of the innocent young, unarmed black teen, the Gentle Giant, murdered in cold blood by a vicious white cop representing the evil establishment. (Snip) In the aftermath of the shooting in Ferguson, Missouri, where Michael Brown—a black teenager—was killed by Darren Wilson, a white police officer, we learned that Ferguson Police Department was nearly 95 percent white in a town where blacks were the large majority. Residents wanted change. “We want answers, we want justice in our community, we want diversity,” said Rev. Derrick Robinson in one of the early protests. On the last point, at least, Ferguson city leaders agreed. “We hire everyone that we can get,” said Mayor James Knowles when asked about police diversity. “There's also the problem that a...

The guy wearing the red bandanna didn’t mess around. Measuring, cutting and hammering away, he made sure the siding was just right for the new house in Oak Cliff. Nothing like having a seasoned leader on the job. Former President Jimmy Carter didn’t let a little heat and his age (90) get in the way Wednesday morning at the house on Exeter Avenue.

....Obama joked today during a New York speech that he doesn't seem to have the traffic problems the city's residents are always complaining about. 'It's actually pretty smooth for me during the week,' Obama said, after playfully arguing that everyone in New York 'hypes' the traffic. 'I don't know what the problem is,' he told attendees of the Clinton Global Initiative's annual meeting. 'I haven't noticed.'

Breaking -- because of new footage inside the elevator, Ravens have released Ray Rice.
-
Many believed it was a matter of when — not if — someone would leak additional footage of the Ray Rice elevator incident. They were right. Early Monday, TMZ published what it said was video from inside the elevator at the shuttered Revel Casino in Atlantic City, where Rice was arrested on Feb. 15 for a domestic dispute involving his now-wife Janay. The video shows Rice hitting Janay with his left hand, which knocks her into the railing before she hits the floor. Rice then drags his apparently unconscious fiancee out of the elevator.

The White House sent three officials to attend Monday's funeral for Michael Brown in St. Louis -- three more than it sent for former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher's funeral last year. The administration's handling of the Brown funeral already has started to raise comparisons between the two. For Monday's funeral, the White House sent two officials with the White House Office of Public Engagement as well as Broderick Johnson, chairman of the My Brother's Keeper Task Force. No White House officials, though, were part of the presidential delegation sent last year to Thatcher's funeral. For that, the White...

Despite surveillance video that allegedly shows Michael Brown robbing a convenience store and violently shoving a store clerk into a rack, his parents state that there is nothing to suggest that Brown had an "aggressive temperament." His mother, Lesley McSpadden, and father, Michael Brown, Sr., told CBS News that they have not yet seen that surveillance video. His mother said Brown "was just tall, big and black."

Hackensack residents were warned to be alert as police hunted for a man who randomly approached and punched three others Monday night in what may be the first local incidents of “the knockout game.” The activity has resulted in one North Jersey death...... .... the assailant was described as a 6-foot-tall or taller black man with an athletic build who was wearing a black V-neck short-sleeved T-shirt, black pants and a Brooklyn Nets cap.

It may be the most cold-hearted case of the knockout game yet. A 33-year-old punk punched a pregnant woman in the face so hard that she lost consciousness. But the creep was quickly arrested, just blocks away, cops said Friday. Jannatul Ferdous — two months from her due date — told the Daily News she was horrified for her unborn child.

Michael Brown was shot in the head and chest multiple times, according to Mary Case, the St. Louis County medical examiner. While Case declined to comment further, citing the ongoing investigation into Brown’s death, another person familiar with the county’s investigation told The Washington Post that Brown had between six and eight gunshot wounds and was shot from the front. In addition, Brown had marijuana in his system when he was shot and killed by a police officer on Aug. 9 in Ferguson, according to this person, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the ongoing investigation. The...

Federal authorities opposed Friday's release of a surveillance video showing a man resembling Michael Brown committing a robbery at a convenience store in Ferguson, Mo., CBS News correspondent Bob Orr reports. The Justice Department asked Ferguson police not to release the video, believing that it would roil the community further, and were able to successfully prevent the video from being released Thursday, the U.S. law enforcement official said. Friday's release occurred over the objection of federal authorities, the official said.

Michael Brown, the unarmed black teenager who was fatally shot by a police officer in a St. Louis suburb, fit the description of a strong-arm robbery suspect that police were responding to the night he was shot, the Ferguson police chief said at a Friday press conference. Police have said Brown was shot after an officer encountered him and another man on the street. They say one of the men pushed the officer into his squad car, then physically assaulted him in the vehicle and struggled with the officer over the officer's weapon. At least one shot was fired inside...

Wow! So, another police officer jumped out of his car in the ghetto for absolutely no reason, put a black guy on the ground with his hands up and then filled him full of lead? What a shame. Well, no, more like “what a sham”.

A six-year-old girl watched in horror as police gunned down her one-year-old dog as it stood in their front yard, her family has said. The girl's mother, Nicole Echlin, said their shepherd-mix Apollo, whom they have had since he was a puppy, got out of their yard in Hometown near Chicago, Illinois on Friday afternoon. After they chased him around the neighborhood, he returned to the yard and was standing on the lawn when police arrived and pulled out their guns, Echlin told the Chicago Tribune. 'He started showing his teeth - that's when the officer shot him,' Echlin, 27,...

“The saggin’ started in the prison where inmates couldn’t wear belts, but in jail culture things started to transcend,” said community activist Leonard Jahad, the state’s top New Haven probation supervisor, “The left pant leg rolled up meant you’re in a certain gang and both pant legs rolled up meant something else,“ Jahad said. “When pants are down like the kids wear on the streets, in prison, it means you are available to the next man for sexual activity.” Smith, who’s also entertainment director of the youth development organization Ice the Beef, said he and his peers don’t view the...

It is not clear whether words were exchanged between the officer and the woman, but both of them end up on the ground, where the officer straddles the woman and repeatedly punches her, according to the video. The video shows another man running and apparently trying to help the officer restrain the woman.

A would-be grocery store robber in Arizona has learned the hard way not to mess with an Army Special Forces veteran. The violent encounter was captured on surveillance video at Maen Mdanat's convenience store in Tucson in late April. A camera trained on the entrance to Axis Food Mart captured the business owner toppling his much younger opponent to the ground with a couple of swift kicks and punches after the suspect attacked him inside the store.
