LINCOLN — Finally. It was Nebraska's turn for some late-game heroics. The Huskers stunned undefeated Michigan State and snapped the Spartans' 12-game winning streak Saturday night with an improbable game-winning drive — covering 91 yards in 38 seconds — to earn a 39-38 victory. NU got the ball back without any timeouts trailing by five. And quarterback Tommy Armstrong went to work. He found Jordan Westerkamp for gains of 28 and 33 yards on back-to-back plays.

Wow! The Arkansas - Ole Miss game was one of the best I have watched in a long time. Epic football, back and forth the whole game ties at the end of the 1st quarter, tied at half, tied at the end of the 3rd quarter, and tied at the end of the game, 45 to 45, when Arkansas came back and scored. Ole Miss scored a TD in OT and then Arkansas had 4th and 25 from the 40. A pass, well short and the receiver literally simply threw the ball backwards as he was going down. It bounced...

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones backed defensive lineman Greg Hardy on Friday after photos of Hardy’s bruised ex-girlfriend from a domestic violence incident surfaced on the sports-oriented website Deadspin. *snip* "We do not condone domestic violence," Jones said. "We entered into the agreement with Greg fully understanding that there would be scrutiny and criticism."

SANDEFJORD, Norway,- A Norwegian team brought their souped-up lawn mower to speeds of nearly 135 mph to take on the 117 mph world record. The Norwegian Speed Factory team said they started with a Viking T6 lawnmower and rebuilt it into "The World's Fastest Viking" for the speed run at Torp Sandefjord Airport. The team said the rebuilt mower features 408 horsepower with a V8 engine and has the wheels of a Formula 3 car. The reservoir for collecting grass clippings was converted into a fuel tank and cooling system. The team said their record-breaking 133.5 mph run was initially...

I was on the stationary bike today, watching one of the TV's hung high on the wall. There was a bout of kickboxers just beginning. The only time I'm really interested in watching televised sports would be for activities in the ring and/or dojo. I tried to recall when was the last time, or one of the last times I ever put fist to jaw in anger? Training doesn't count. One is not even supposed to be in a boxing or martial arts class if you are too agitated, because that force will come out upon your training partner, who...

Wrestling is a tricky business. Trying to present an entertaining show often means taking a few risks with content. And with those risks come the possibility of doing something that comes off very badly for the audience. It's not just a bad gimmick or character. It's an angle or another move that is hard to watch. Sometimes, it's because it's so bad, others because it just affects you the wrong way but either way, it's a bit that crosses a line big time. WWE are naturally big offenders here, especially during the "Attitude Era" where they were throwing out so...

The Mariners and Rays have announced a three-for-three trade that sends infielder/outfielder Brad Miller, first baseman Logan Morrison, and reliever Danny Farquhar from Seattle to Tampa in exchange for righty Nate Karns, lefty C.J. Riefenhauser, and minor league outfielder Boog Powell. With the trade, new Mariners GM Jerry Dipoto has made a striking first major move. The key piece, of course, is the 27-year-old Karns, who put up a solid 147-inning campaign last year, working to a 3.67 ERA with 8.9 K/9 and 3.4 BB/9. He’ll bring ample, cheap control with him to the Mariners, even if he regresses (and/or...

The College Football Czar Week 10 Week nine in review: The College Football Czar had his best week to this point in the season, although it would've been one game better if not for the officiating slapstick routine that took place at the end of the Miami-Duke game. The Hurricanes were allowed to score on a last-second kickoff return, which involved eight laterals, one pitch while the ball-carrier was already down, at least one illegal block, one announcement that the play was under review, two more announcements that the play was still under review, and the apparent review of an...

Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane will not face criminal charges after a woman claimed she was raped by the NHL player at his home near Buffalo in early August. Erie County District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III released the findings Thursday morning: The Town of Hamburg Police Department and the Office of the Erie County District Attorney have conducted an exhaustive investigation over the course of the past three months regarding allegations made by a 21 year-old woman that 26 year-old Patrick Kane raped her on his bed. The investigative findings include the following:

Dodgers starter Zack Greinke opted out of his contract to become arguably the top free-agent pitcher on the market Wednesday. Greinke, 32, figures to command a significant raise from the $23 million he made last year. He went 19-3 with a major-league leading 1.66 earned-run average and a 0.84 WHIP, making him a favorite for the National League Cy Young Award.

A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit against the City Park Improvement Association brought by advocates opposed to the ongoing construction of a $24.5 million golf complex in the park. City Park for Everyone Coalition still has a pending lawsuit against the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which contributed $6 million in Hurricane Katrina recovery funds toward the project. The coalition argued that City Park and FEMA together failed to consider all of the possible environmental consequences of building an 18-hole championship course and didn't give the public enough opportunity to comment as required under federal and state laws. City Park...

According to several reports, including ESPN, the Dallas Cowboys have released 23-year-old running back Joseph Randle. This is a fairly shocking development after Randle was demoted from starting running back last week, left the team's facilities unannounced, and was dealing with "personal matters." This also comes after Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he was concerned about Randle's mental well-being. Randle was expected to take over as the Cowboys starting running back this season in the wake of DeMarco Murray. Through five games, the results were unimpressive, and following a strained oblique and breakout performance from Darren McFadden, the Cowboys demoted...

Hours after firing Matt Williams as the Washington Nationals’ manager last month, general manager Mike Rizzo said he’d prefer to have someone with “some type of managerial experience, especially at the major league level†fill that role in future seasons. In Dusty Baker, the Nationals found a well-suited candidate. Baker, 66, was hired to be the Nationals’ next manager on Tuesday, stepping in after Williams was fired after just two seasons.

With the NFL's trade deadline approaching at 4 p.m., it appears Robert Griffin III will remain on the Washington Redskins for the remainder of the season. According to ESPN's Josina Anderson, the Redskins haven't received any trade offers from other teams for the 2012 No. 2 draft pick. As Anderson notes, the big hold-up is Griffin's contract, which has the potential to become a nightmare. This past offseason, when Washington was still pushing for Griffin to be their starting quarterback, they picked up Griffin's fifth-year option, worth $16.2 million and guaranteed for injury. This means if another team were to...

The 2-6 San Francisco 49ers are benching quarterback Colin Kaepernick and starting Blaine Gabbert this weekend against the Falcons, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Monday. Niners head coach Jim Tomsula said earlier on Monday that he was "evaluating everything." Later in the day, Schefter reported that San Francisco had traded veteran tight end Vernon Davis to the Denver Broncos for a 2016 7th-round draft pick and 6th round picks in 2016 and 2017. Kaepernick, who led the 49ers to the Super Bowl in 2012 and the NFC Championship Game in 2013, is having the worst season of his career. He's thrown...
