Robert Griffin III's days in Washington appear to be numbered. Jay Gruden believes Griffin is more concerned about building his brand off the field than with his play on it and the first-year head coach is "now done with him," according to Jason Reid of The Washington Post, citing multiple people within the organization. Griffin, who was selected No. 2 overall in the 2012 NFL Draft, hasn't won a game in more than a calendar year and is viewed as a long-term project as a pocket passer by Gruden, according to the report. Before being benched for quarterback Colt McCoy...

The College Football Czar: Week 15 Week fourteen in review: The College Football Czar nearly had another sub-.500 week, but rallied in the four late games on Saturday night to finish 14-13. As much as the Czar criticizes the SEC supremacy theory, he admits to have gotten caught up in it himself over Thanksgiving weekend. Not only had he become convinced that Mississippi State was a national championship contender, but he picked the SEC to dominate its traditional ACC rivals, when it turned out that the ACC went 4-0 in those matchups. For the season, that means the SEC is...

Jay Gruden wanted Robert Griffin III to succeed, but he felt he had no choice last week other than to bench the Washington Redskins’ once-apparent franchise savior despite the wide-ranging consequences. And while it’s unclear whether owner Dan Snyder and President and General Manager Bruce Allen are in lockstep with their coach, it’s helpful to examine what convinced Gruden that the franchise must part ways with the 2012 offensive rookie of the year. By making the bold move, Gruden has set the tone about Griffin’s future as the offseason draws near, and the power of Gruden’s assessment will be crucial...

Michael Sam believes he's not on a NFL roster because of the fact he's openly gay -- telling TMZ Sports he strongly believes he's got the talent to play in the league. Sam was at LAX this morning when he was asked if he thinks NFL teams are shying away from him because of his sexual orientation ... or if it has to do with the level of talent he faced after college. "I think I was the SEC Defensive Player of the Year last year ... so I don't think it had to do with talent."

Cork Gaines December 3, 2014The college football playoff committee has released its latest ranking and it is a terrible sign for the undefeated defending national champions, Florida State. The one big shakeup in the ranking came with TCU jumping up to take the spot in the top four vacated by Mississippi State who lost to Ole Miss. But more importantly, TCU leapfrogged past Florida State who fell to no. 4 after struggling to get by Florida. Here are the new rankings for the seven teams that still have a realistic shot to make the playoff: 1.Alabama 2.Oregon 3.TCU 4.Florida State...

For the first time in Major League Baseball -- or in any major professional sport, actually -- a game official has come out as gay. It's veteran MLB umpire Dale Scott. Outsports.com has a lengthy feature on Scott, so definitely hop over there if interested in the full version. The basics are that Scott has long been out to colleagues but it wasn't made public. He was profiled in Referee Magazine back in October and sent them a photo to use with Scott and Michael Rausch, Scott's domestic partner of 28 years. The two were recently married.

Houston Texans quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for six touchdowns en route to a blowout win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, but it was a younger Fitzpatrick who stole the show at the post-game press conference. Fitzpatrick introduced his sons Tate and Brady to the press before calling Brady up to the podium to show off some serious mathematical skills.

Researchers have found that playing a single season of football can change the brain of a teenager - even if they don't suffer concussions. Even though players were not concussed during the season, researchers found abnormalities similar to the effects of mild traumatic brain injury. They called for more research into the area, which raises new questions over the safety of contact sports for young adults.

I guess life would be less complicated if we just left sports to be about the games. I get it that a lot of people who watched Sunday’s NFL game between the St. Louis Rams and Oakland Raiders were angered that Rams players Jared Cook, Kenny Britt, Stedman Bailey, Chris Givens and Tavon Austin made a visual statement about a polarizing social issue. During the introduction of the St. Louis offense, the five players stopped near the tunnel and raised their arms in the universal sign of “I surrender.” It was a statement about the recent grand jury decision not...
