Adrian Peterson was the face of the Vikings and marketing magic, his brushes with the law and personal life ignored – until suddenly no one could look away. With a new season, a new coach and a $1 billion stadium on the way, the Minnesota Vikings turned to their undisputed star last summer to appear on the team’s yearbook cover: Adrian Peterson, standing confidently in a dirty purple jersey. In an accompanying interview, Peterson said it was easy being the public face of the Vikings because “I don’t really get into a lot of trouble.” Just a few weeks later, he...

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) LA football fans have been waiting nearly 20 years for a team to call their own. LA is the second largest TV market, host to plenty of baseball, basketball and hockey franchises, not to mention college teams. But the idea of a pro football team in this area has been nothing more than rumor for decades. According to a report, one or two NFL teams are on the way, “fairly soon.” “As the 20th anniversary of the NFL’s departure from Los Angeles, the NFL seems closer than ever to returning,” said the report. “Per a league source,...

It looks like Beats by Dre have been, well, beat. The days of NFL football players and coaches sporting the popular headphones during televised interviews are over for now. This is the result of an exclusive agreement between audio equipment company Bose and the NFL itself. Re/code reports that the agreement bans players and coaches from wearing any other headphones during televised interviews and during games.

Week 6 of the college football season was not kind to the nation's best teams in the AP Top 25 poll -- five of the top eight squads in the country incurred their first losses of the year. Down went No. 2 Oregon, No. 3 Alabama, No. 4 Oklahoma, No. 6 Texas A&M and No. 8 UCLA. The losses provided the biggest rankings shakeup to date, with Ole Miss and Mississippi State joining the party inside the top five (both tied at No. 3) with victories over Alabama and Texas A&M, respectively.

AUBURN, Ala. -- Nick Marshall and the Auburn Tigers rose to the occasion on a week when most of the teams ranked ahead of them fell. Marshall passed for 207 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 119 and two more scores to lead No. 5 Auburn to a 41-7 blowout of No. 15 LSU on Saturday night. Auburn (5-0, 2-0 Southeastern Conference) dominated from the start on a week when No. 2 Oregon, No. 3 Alabama and No. 4 Oklahoma were upset. • Sandy Koufax Chose His Faith Over The World Series And Won It All

On the field, Sandy Koufax wasn't just any baseball player. Off the field, he wasn't viewed that way either. The Hall of Fame pitcher isn't just remembered by baseball fans as "the man with the golden arm," but is revered by his Jewish admirers as "the left arm of God" for his talent as well as the public observance of his faith, most notably during the 1965 World Series. A legendary left-handed pitcher who spent his entire career with the Dodgers, Koufax dominated batters like few ever have, atop mounds in Brooklyn and Los Angeles -- as well as just...

The NCAA and Penn State lost a key battle in the ongoing question of the legality of the hotly contested consent decree that levied historic sanctions against the university after the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal. On Friday, Commonwealth Court Judge Anne Covey issued a ruling on the September motion from the defendants to dismiss the lawsuit brought by state Sen. Jake Corman and state Treasurer Rob McCord. That suit protested the consent decree and asked that the $60 million in fines the decree dictated stay in Pennsylvania, backed up by Corman’s Endowment Act legislation. In filing the motion...

Depending on whom you ask, Jerome Baker, a senior at Benedictine High School here, is either the highest- or the second-highest-rated football prospect in Ohio from the class of 2015. He is a four-star linebacker, appraised from 36th to 72nd nationally. Columbus is a little more than a two-hour drive from Baker’s home, and his parents, Jerome Sr. and Theodora, are Ohio State fans. Baker received a recruitment flyer from the university that featured a picture of the basketball superstar LeBron James, a fellow northeast Ohioan, and a quotation: “If I had one year of college, I would have ended...

The Giants will take on the Cowboys at AT&T Stadium in Arlington on Oct. 19. The Texas city has been in the news of late because a man in Dallas has become the first person in the United States with a confirmed Ebola virus diagnosis. TMZ caught up with Giants co-owner Steve Tisch, and in a video posted on the website on Thursday morning a reporter asked the executive if he’s concerned about Big Blue playing in Dallas. “I think the Cowboys are going to get it first,” Tisch said jokingly. “So it’s to our advantage.”
