In light of today's revelation that the NFL was sent the inside-elevator tape, there is no doubt that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will not survive. The NFL would be smart to appoint Condi Rice as the next Commissioner of the NFL. Besides being a brilliant individual... organized, effective, great negotiator... she is an African-American, and a female (and a huge football fan). Hiring her as commissioner would be a brilliant move to quell any "old boy, white man network" rage that will soon be heard. She would be at ease handling and negotiating with the owners, union and players. Make...

This week, the entire country erupted with outrage after watching the video of (former) Ravens running back Ray Rice knocking his then-fiancée unconscious in a casino elevator. I won’t link to it here. I’m sure you’ve already seen it. If you’ve watched ESPN for any five minute span in the last 48 hours, you’ve likely been treated to the footage 17 times or so. As you’re probably aware, when the incident happened several months ago, the league, the Ravens, and the New Jersey criminal justice system initially determined that it was minor enough to warrant either a light punishment or...

On Monday, Eagles running back LeSean McCoy was accused by a local Philadelphia restaurant of leaving a 20-cent tip on a $60 bill. Although the running back has yet to comment on the incident, the owner kept pressing the issue on Tuesday. In a statement posted on the restaurant's Facebook page, PYT owner Tommy Up accused the running back of being "verbally abusive to our staff in the most insulting ways" and making "derogatory statements" about women.

Two weeks before he died of an overdose in 2011, the New York Rangers player Derek Boogaard was excused from his substance-abuse rehabilitation in California and returned to New York. He drove to Long Island, as he had done many times in the months before, and paid a man for illegally obtained prescription painkillers. This time, rather than cash, Boogaard paid with a personal check.

Did the NFL suspend Ray Rice indefinitely after he was given an initial 2 game suspension because A.) they saw the video inside the elevator, or B.) because we saw the inside-the-elevator video? If it is because of A, then why did they formulate a 6 game suspension to be followed by banning for a second offense and not apply the 6 game rule to Ray Rice? If this is because the inside-the-elevator video surfaced, then will the NFL have a system for those who are caught by video and those not caught by video? In the end, IMHO, Ray...

The trigger of events that led to the toppling of Atlanta Hawks owner Bruce Levenson began with general manager Danny Ferry referring to free agent Luol Deng as having "some African in him" on an organizational conference call, league sources with direct knowledge of the probe told Yahoo Sports. "He's still a young guy overall," Ferry said, league sources with direct knowledge of the probe told Yahoo. “He's a good guy overall. But he's not perfect. He's got some African in him. And I don't say that in a bad way." Deng, considered one of the highest-character players in the...

Due to Penn State University’s significant progress toward ensuring its athletics department functions with integrity, the NCAA Executive Committee on Monday eliminated the school’s postseason ban, effective immediately, and will return the full complement of football scholarships in 2015-16. The committee’s action endorses recommendations released Monday by George Mitchell, the university’s athletics oversight monitor, in his latest report. In addition to the scholarship and postseason participation changes, Mitchell also recommended that if Penn State continues to make impressive progress at the conclusion of the 2015 report, Mitchell’s oversight may conclude substantially earlier than 2017, the date set forth in the...

Ever dreamed of having a wedding based around your favourite football team? No? Well this Manchester United fan did. And this week he made his dream come true. The supporter, based in Kenya, went to great lengths to organise a United themed wedding for him and his bride to enjoy, but on the basis of these photos, it didn’t go down well. In truly mad scenes, the groom wore a United shirt – complete with ‘Just Married’ on the back – while every detail was replicated, including a cake slapped with the same sponsors as the Red Devils. But while...

I can't believe how little mention there has been about LSU's stunning upset of the Sam Houston State Bearcats. The tigers slipped by by 56 points. Let's hope that they haven't neglected to focus on the University of Louisiana at Monroe this Saturday.
