Just in case there is anyone out there who still thinks the global warming alarmist movement is about the globe warming (which it hasnt been doing for quite some time), it might be instructive to consider the words of one of the warmist champions. Today we offer it up as our Global Warming Quote of the Day: . . .

It seems much of the world is wising up to the Global Warming Alarmism that has driven so much foolish and costly taxation and regulation, subsidies and profiteering. Well, much but not all of the world. Heres a quick overview, courtesy of the British Global Warming Policy Foundation: . . .

Fake but true: IT APPEARED to provide incontrovertible proof that global warming was accelerating faster than even the most doom-laden scientists had predicted. There was considerable alarm when the words most authoritative atlas printed a map which showed that Greenland was rapidly turning green. However, experts from around the globe pointed out that the cataclysmic chart had no scientific support and was contradicted by all of the most recent satellite images. Now the Scottish map-makers responsible for the disappearance of 115,830 square miles of polar ice have admitted publicly they were wrong. As an act of contrition, The Times Comprehensive...

Gov. Jerry Brown, that renown budgetary and fiscal expert, says dont fret. His high-speed train to nowhere in particular wont cost as much as nearly everyone who has looked at it says it will. And besides, he says, the Moonbeam Express can be paid for by your carbon footprint. Is it starting to make sense? The carbon scare was used to put into place effective and real taxes on stuff like that air you exhale. And now we find out why. Its an endless source of your money to pay for their follies.

Newt, Mitt, and Ron Speak Out on a Moon Base David C. Stolinsky Jan. 30, 2012 Newt Gingrich states that if he is elected, he will establish a permanent moon colony by 2020 and admit it as an American state.− News item Mitt Romney states that if a corporate executive proposed spending billions on a moon base in this economy, Romney would fire him.− News item Ron Paul states that the only people he would consider sending to the moon are politicians. − News item Gingrich, impulsive as usual, imagines a moon colony and wants to establish one...

While Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich has been mocked repeatedly by his chief rival, Mitt Romney, there is a compelling series of arguments to be made for returning to the moon, this time in the form of a permanent Lunar colony. Indeed, the Lunar colony idea had been articulated by President George W. Bush in 2004 and was based on solid research developed by many serious thinkers in the space community. It had also been ratified by 2 different congresses, in 2005 and 2008. In fact, the first lunar colony was planned in the mid-1960s, called ALSS (Apollo Logistics Support...

I'm looking for a link to the study which says that Democrats score lower than Republicans in economics and history. There are a few smug, soi-dissant intellectual liberal friends of mine (like there aren't any other kinds of liberals) who I need to put in their place before I defriend them. Do any of you guys have any links to those particular studies? I'll keep you guys updated!

The Wall Street Journal has a letter today signed by 16 noteworthy scientists who wanted to go on the record about global warming. What they had to say constitutes todays Global Warming Oops Moment, one of those delightful public displays that reveal the emperor has no clothes. We quote:...

POLITICO's Robin Bravender reports from Tallahassee, Fla.: Santorum was asked at Florida State University about whether he'd expand NASA programs after Newt Gingrich's pledge for a new moon base. "I go back to trying to be very up front and honest with the people of Florida, the people of the country," he said. But given a potential explosion of inflation, he said, "the idea that anybody's going out and talking about grand, new, very expensive schemes to spend more money at a time when we do not have our fiscal house in order, in my opinion, is plain, crass politics."

[Vo]:Resonances: Coupling between electronic states and vibrational modes (phonons)... Mark Iverson-ZeroPoint Wed, 25 Jan 2012 13:28:21 -0800 FYI: The presence of excess heat, and [near] lack of high-E particles/photons from LENR reactions would require coupling the large amount of E into the lattice vibrations (phonon modes) instead of into gammas (photons) or particles (neutrons and subsequently, dead grad-students). The article below looked into the energy-transfer (coupling) process in photosynthesis. They discovered that the coupling between electronic states and vibrational modes is greatly enhanced when they hit the light-harvesting complexes of algae with a 2-color (wavelength) photon spectroscopy. How does...

Andrea Rossi, an Italian man who claims to have invented a practical low-energy nuclear reaction device, lost an ideal opportunity to have his device tested and evaluated by a prestigious University for lack of funds. Last summer, Rossi said he had started a research contract with the University of Bologna to allow its researchers to study his Energy Catalyzer. But that never happened. Today, Dario Braga, director of scientific research at the University told New Energy Times that the University waited long enough. It terminated the contract because Rossi did not fulfill his agreement to make the first progress payment....

(CNN) Riding the momentum of his South Carolina win on Saturday, Newt Gingrich said Sunday he planned a week of big speeches offering big solutions for a big country. Ill be at the space coast in Florida this week giving a speech a visionary speech on the United States going back into space in the John F. Kennedy tradition, the former House Speaker said on C-SPANs Washington Journal. He said the days leading to Florida's Jan. 31 primary would include other speeches on health care, housing, the economy, Cuba and Latin America. I hope really once a...

This is astonishing beauty. One has to believe in God when seeing such splendor! Here's another time-lapse video of the aurora borealis from tonight in Norway: Aurora Time lapse from Kattfjorden (Norway) Here is the photographer who got these beautiful shots: Helge Mortensen Troms, Norway arcticshooter.blogspot.com/ I mostly shoot the aurora borealis/Northern lights in the winter season. In the summer I really enjoy the midnight sun and the incredible light you get. I take all kind of pictures but my sweet spot is landscapes that includes the ocean. I do bracketed shots if it benefits the image. But I...

This is the fourth of a series of five essays on the Internet and Social Dynamics. In Internet Forums and Social Dynamics: Part I: Everybody is someone elses weirdo was concerned with the treatment of how internet groups (focusing on Free Republic) dealt with posters (I almost typed posers which on second thought would not have been a bad typo to leave in place) who do not share the prevailing views. The second part, Internet Forums and Social Dynamics: Part II: Snapbacks, was concerned with the psychological reactions when a poster who had been considered safely one of the group...

If you paid any attention to the rumblings in the technology industry this week, you would know that Apple released a piece of software that will supposedly revolutionize the educational industry. iBooks Author is the culmination of many years of internal developments at Apple. Modernizing education was, of course, the passion of Apple's late legendary leader, Steve Jobs, and was the project he most wanted to see come to light. Let me be clear, what Apple released Thursday, Jan. 19., is revolutionary. It will change many aspects of education within the United States and potentially worldwide. However, it will not...

On NASAs Glenn Research Centers Research page the following summary was published last last year: Tests conducted at NASA Glenn Research Center in 1989 and elsewhere consistently show evidence of anomalous heat during gaseous loading and unloading of deuterium into and out of bulk palladium. At one time called cold fusion, now called low-energy nuclear reactions (LENR), such effects are now published in peer-reviewed journals and are gaining attention and mainstream respectability. The instrumentation expertise of NASA GRC is applied to improve the diagnostics for investigating the anomalous heat in LENR. I find it interesting and rather puzzling that...

Great things are expected of terahertz waves, the radiation that fills the slot in the electromagnetic spectrum between microwaves and the infrared. Terahertz waves pass through non-conducting materials such as clothes , paper, wood and brick and so cameras sensitive to them can peer inside envelopes, into living rooms and "frisk" people at distance. The way terahertz waves are absorbed and emitted can also be used to determine the chemical composition of a material. And even though they don't travel far inside the body, there is great hope that the waves can be used to spot tumours near the surface...

I need some astronomy help from the smart-guy Freepers. Short version: What can cause a satellite to suddenly glow brightly (as bright as a meteor) for a few seconds and then gradually fade? We saw it last summer on three satellites, one after another, with all 3 visible at the same time (after fading). Different areas of the sky and two different directions of travel! My first thoughts were of rotating satellites reflecting sunlight, but that didn't make sense: First time in 40 years of skywatching and I see 3 at once?? Another unlikely scenario: 3 satellites getting slagged by...

In my last post I commented (once again) upon Andrea Rossis E-Cat cold fusion system and at the end of the posting I asked readers to vote on whether they thought (believed) that the device would perform as claimed (i.e. that it will be shown to produce significantly more energy than is required to start and maintain its operation). Over the following eight days more than 1,160 of you voted (an impressive 5% of readers!) and as of today, Sunday, January 8th, at 12:30PM PST, the results are:

Although the faux science behind global warming alarmism has been amply exposed for its pretensions and errors, the warmists dont much care. They have their regulations in place. They no longer have to resort to this tactic... Brace yourself. Gov. Jerry Brown has found a new pot of money to help him fill a $9-billion hole in his proposed budget: $1 billion from auctioning credits to allow California companies to emit greenhouse gases, reports todays Los Angeles Times. And you thought it was about saving the planet? Its always been about money and control. Your money, their control. . ....

Evolution professor Lawrence Krauss is now saying that the universe, and everything in it, came from nothing. Not only that, but there are probably billions and billions of universes that have spontaneously arisen. Occasionally a universe happens to have all the right properties for life to arise spontaneously within it, and that would be us. CLICK ABOVE LINK FOR THE VIDEO Krauss, a theoretical physicist and head of The Origins Project at Arizona State University, is not the first evolutionist to defy the age-old wisdom that something does not come from nothing. World-famous physicist Stephen Hawking popularized the idea...

I DO think theres a squatch in these woods. What the heck has happened to science on television? Animal Planet has a show called Finding Bigfoot, with a guy looking like he just cleaned out all the pork rinds at the Piggly Wiggly telling us he believes theres a squatch in these woods. Sasquatches DO exist, insists another sasquatch hunter, doing his best to look and sound serious, in the shows accidentally comical commercial. We shouldnt single out Animal Planet for scorn, however. The channel does have silly company. The History Channel has a show called UFO Hunters. Planet Green...

I have always been curious about the lack of documented evidence for a tsunami ever occuring on my home coast of North Carolina. Some of the largest undersea land slides on earth have been documented off our wonderful Outer Banks, and earthquakes are not completely unknown in the Carolinas. Both cause big waves. And more to point for the Tusk, some very credible work has documented cosmically-induced tsunami in the New York and Hudson Valley region, not far away from NC in a regional sense.

The irradiation of vital organs is caused by incorporated radionuclides. If a cell is damaged, there are four possibilities for the cell. 1.: The cell dies instantaneously. 2.: The functionality of the cell is destroyed. 3. The cell degenerates and cancer occurs. 4.: The cell repairs itself. But this is only possible for adult cells. Cells in embryos have no such repair functions, children cells can't do that either. For them it's all about growing and dividing and only with time, the ability to repair themselves becomes existent. That's one of the crucial factors why children are especially in danger....

There have been a number of odd happenings recently at the plant. What they all mean right now is not totally clear. On January 2nd, the day after the widespread new years quake, the radioactive fallout levels in Fukushima and also in Chiba spiked. A weird white ash was reported by some in Chiba, no word if this is related in any way. On January 6th the cesium levels detected leaking out of unit 3′s intake canal tripled in one day. We still have no explanation for the rush of police cars, fire engines and two buses of workers to...

.....It's too bad that his confrontation with Politico reporter Mike Allen didn't come earlier in the campaign, because "You got a name?" makes a great sound bite on how to treat the left-wing media ambushes. It would also be the way he would probably confront world leaders who are not operating in our best interests -- firm but unwavering. One thing is for certain: a president Perry would not be bowing to any Saudi potentate or any other world leader. ......Frankly, I don't think pragmatism is what is called for at this time. Slash-and-burn is what is needed to reduce...

..........."Romney and Santorum (like Gingrich and Obama) both go 4-for-4 on the ethanol lobby's scorecard. Paul goes 2-for-4 because he would cut oil subsidies and allow 15-percent ethanol blends to be sold, but opposes the mandate and other subsidies. Rick Perry went 0-for-4."

Youre not going to lose a lot of bets by inferring that a candidate who says he is suspending his campaign is in fact about to drop out. But Rick Perrys reconsideration of his role in the Republican nomination race appears to have been genuine and he is pressing forward for the time being. Why did Mr. Perry decide to remain in the race? Knowing the answer is crucial to understanding whether Mr. Perry has any chance of mounting a comeback and how his decision might reverberate upon Mitt Romney and the other Republican candidates. Let me posit two...

Every once in a while, I cant resist indulging in a sleeve of hot, crispy McDonalds French fries. Not even Michelle Obama can resist the attractive allure of the crispy spuds. However, that doesnt stop her from trying to curb the desires of her fellow Americans. I can only assume that the First Ladys stint in office will long be characterized by her perpetual battle against Americas increasing waistline. Her attempt to halt the increasing health concerns of overweight Americans is certainly a noble cause, but her methods (unsurprisingly) are not always acceptable within the confines of a classical liberal...

Perry,Iowa After witnessing the Perry rally in Perry, Iowa, I have a sudden urge to rush out, purchase a firearm, and start rearing eagles. And if it had that effect on me, you know it was potent stuff. The Perry rally at the HotelPattee was far, far nicer than the Santorum rally. Santorum stood on the stairs and addressed a tepid crowd of people without amplification, only four of whom were holding signs, while someone vacuumed in the background. Perry had a country music performer entertaining crowds in a nice room that Santorum seemed unaware was part of the...

GOOD INSIGHTS ON WHY MILLIONS OF KIDS CAN'T READ. (A FOLLOW-UP FOR ANYONE INTERESTED IN EARLIER POST TITLED "FAKE READING THEORY IS THE SLAVE TRADE OF OUR ERA.") The country continues to be plagued by illiteracy. The reason is simple. The country continues to be under the heel of some of the most reckless and reprehensible experts imaginable. They make little children memorize the SHAPES of words, which most little children simply cant do. Ergo, these children experience major reading and cognitive problems. Don Potter, the phonics guru and as well a teacher in Texas, recently sent me this illuminating...

There are years that are remembered for changing the course of human history:1492. 1776. 1945. Then there are years that were predicted to change the course of history. 1844, when Judgment Day didn't materialize. 1910, when Halley's Comet didn't wipe out humanity. And remember Y2K? But rarely does a year arrive with such a mixture of anticipation and dread as 2012. We speak not of the presidential campaign but of the Maya calendar, and the projection that it or, more accurately, a cycle within it will end on Dec. 21, 2012. That date has kicked up a swirl...

Those who have implied that the President’s health care law will establish “death panels,” have encountered excessive criticism. Yet, more and more information is being released identifying that rationing of care will in fact occur, and that it will be done by government bureaucracies. For example, a phone call into The Mark Levin Show on WLS 890 from a Chicago neurosurgeon last month revealed that a Health and Human Services (HHS) document, associated with the Obama Administration’s federal health law, will inhibit patients over the age of 70 from receiving neurological care. Instead of receiving “advanced neurosurgical care,” “units,” (meaning patients),...

The Internet is a dangerous place. It's full of resources, both good and bad; full of citations linking one to another, sometimes helpfully, sometimes not. Today we're going to point the skeptical eye at ten of the worst web sites in terms of quality of science information that they promote. To make this list, they not only need to have bad information, they also need to be popular enough to warrant our attention. Many of these sites promote some particular ideology, but I want to be clear that that's not why they're here. Sites that make this list are only...

April 07, 2009 Speech to Texas Home School Association Thank you, Tim [Lambert, President, Texas Home School Coalition], for those kind words, and thank you for all you do to equip, inform and defend home school families in our states. January 13, 2010: Gov. Perry: Texas Knows Best How to Educate Our Students - Texas will not apply for Federal Race to the Top Funding Gov. Rick Perry today announced that Texas will not submit an application for federal Race to the Top education funds. Despite tremendous education successes, Texas application would be penalized by the U.S. Department of Education for refusing to commit to adopt national curriculum standards and tests and to incur ongoing costs. Texas is on the right path toward improved education, and we would be foolish and irresponsible to place our childrens future in the hands...

Another Asian Fukushima Imminent?Taiwan imports 99 percent of its energy, which is vital to its rapidly industrializing economy. The island nation's electricity demand was recently growing at almost 5 percent per year, but this is slowing to about 3.3 percent per annum to 2013. Nuclear power has been a significant part of the electricity supply for two decades and now provides 17 percent of the country's overall energy needs. But this has come at a potential cost. The country's three nuclear power plants (NPPs) comprise four General Electric boiling water reactors and two Westinghouse pressurized water reactors.Taiwan launched its nuclear power project...

Atheist militant Richard Dawkins has produced a children's book entitled "The Magic of Reality" and in doing so has joined the Millstone Swim and Dive Club. Spreading his venom for God to kids under the guise of Scientism is about as putrid as it gets. Children using simple God-given logic conclude the existence of a creator. It requires an abandonment of logic to attain self omniscience and declare there is no God. The materialist's faith in the escape hatch of "there just wasn't enough evidence for me" won't wash on judgement day. Here's a book idea: The ghost of Christopher...

On November 11 I wrote a defense of Mona Davids related to the stunning fact free story written by intrepid New York Post reporter Carl Campanile on November 10. The next day I get an email from Anthony Krinsky, author of the Edobserver blog telling me I had just been made famous by him. Wow, I said to myself, how did this happen? Krinsky wrote a post debunking what I had written as well as the tenets of Mona's organization New York City Parents Union. As I was reading this I was quite curious as to how the 5-10 people...

Flightradar24 shows live airplane traffic from different parts around the world. The technique to receive flight information from aircraft is called ADS-B. That means the Flightradar24 can only show information about aircraft equipped with an ADS-B transponder. Today about 60% (about 30% in USA and about 70% in Europe) of the passenger aircraft and only a small amount of military and private aircraft have an ADS-B transponder.

I went recently to San Francisco to give a talk to a conference of scientists. The scientists were experts in gathering together mountains of biological datagenome sequences, results of experiments and clinical trialsand figuring out how to make them useful: turning them into new diagnostic tests, for example, or a drug for cancer. The invitation was an honor, but a nerve-wracking one. As a journalist, I had no genome scan to offer the audience. We science writers do have one ace in the hole, though. Instead of being lashed to a lab bench for years, carrying out experiments to illuminate...

A mysterious metal ball reportedly fell from space , landing in a grasslands area of the African nation of Namibia. So far experts claim the object is not of alien origin. It has two bumps on each end, appears to be hollow and weights about 13 pounds. Namibia's National Forensic Science Institute Director Paul Ludik said the sphere is 3.6 feet around and is made out of a "sophisticated" alloy that is not unknown to modern science, although it has no identifying markings to link it with a country or a company. So far that's about all we're told. But...

What do solar energy companies have in common with Second Lieutenants on the first day of the Somme? Yes, that's right. (H/T GWPF) In Germany, especially, the attrition rate has been amazing. According to Reuters, no fewer than 5,000 German solar companies have gone bust in the last year, shedding around 20,000 jobs. Workers in Germany's once booming solar energy industry face a shakeout of major proportions following declines in the price of solar panels over the past year. Cuts in subsidies for solar energy, weaker demand for panels and fierce competition from cheaper Asian rivals are eating into what...

Shells Interest Indicates Major Shift for LENR Posted on December 16, 2011 by Steven B. Krivit Shells Interest Indicates Major Shift for LENR Royal Dutch Shell, plc, one of the largest energy companies in the world, is interested in exploring low-energy nuclear reaction research as a possible game-changer in the energy business. Two Shell scientists, Anitha Sarkar and Gilles Buchs, with the backing of the Shell GameChanger program, are looking for opportunities to work actively with LENR experts, according to a brief introduction the researchers prepared. Edward Beardsworth, a venture capitalist at Jane Capital Partners in San Francisco, introduced the...
