COLUMBIA, South Carolina — Maybe Mitt Romney should study his family tree. Surprised to see a distant relative in the front row at a campaign stop Wednesday, the Republican presidential hopeful interrupted his education speech at a children's museum to introduce her. "In the front row over here is my niece, Heather Glenn," Romney said. "That's probably not your last name anymore, Heather. But Heather is a school teacher. Are you a school teacher?" "No. I'm a pediatrician," she responded. "She's a pediatrician," Romney said, to laughter. "Deals with kids. I haven't seen Heather in, um, 20 years. Good to...

The way to avoid a Rudy nomination is to simply bury him in the primaries. Let's examine a few key facts. 1) The current national polls have Rudy at about 30%, Thompson at 21%, McCain at 13%, Romney at 11%, and Huckabee at 6%. The other 19% are either going for a minor candidate or are undecided. 2) Rudy is mostly leading because a) he's the only pro-choice candidate against seven pro-life candidates and b) he's supported by some conservatives because he's seen as the best chance to win. 3) While McCain is listed as third here, it's pretty generally...

The Politico's Martin looks at large discrepancy between the number of staffers the leading Dems have in Iowa and New Hampshire versus the leading Republican candidates. In fact, Martin finds the second-tier Democratic candidates have more staffers on the ground in the early states than all of the LEADING GOP candidates. (By the way, considering how little of an organizational advantage Romney may actually have in the first two states, does that mean Thompson can get up to speed in Iowa faster than some believe?) --snip-- NBC/NJ's Memoli notes that Ann Romney seemed to take personally Thompson’s "actor" barb in...

ARG released a rather bizarre poll in South Carolina yesterday. The poll shows Mitt Romney essentially tripling his support from 9% a month ago to 26% and Fred Thompson losing half of his support going from 21% to 10%. To put the ARG poll in perspective, no other poll going back to 2007 has shown Romney in second place let alone first in South Carolina. And no poll since June has had Fred Thompson in anything but first or second, yet this poll lists Thompson as 4th, five points behind McCain. Put simply this ARG poll looks to be a...

Rudy Giuliani got a standing ovation when he walked in and another when he walked out, and his lone heckler even waited until his speech was over to pipe up. Despite a scathing union video questioning his handling of Sept.11, Giuliani got a warm welcome here yesterday at the South Carolina Fire-Rescue Conference. And that may help the ex-mayor hose down the effort by firefighter foes to raise doubts about the 9/11 hero status that has made him a serious Republican White House contender. Giuliani commiserated with the audience here about the deaths of nine Charleston firefighters in a warehouse...

You guys should check this group out. I met one of their members out in Ohio working with a congressional candidate. They knew what they were doing and I was impressed but i didn't realize that Alex had his own team until yesterday. I looked at their website its got some really solid ideas in terms of strategy. Sanford shows us meaning of accomplishment Posted Friday, July 8, 2005 The Greenville News Some legislators in Columbia declared upon the end of the recent session that Gov. Mark Sanford achieved a very short list of accomplishments. They instructed the governor to learn to compromise and work with the Legislature in order to achieve his goals in Columbia. Some warned him that time is running out and some even labeled him irrelevant. The naysayers in the General Assembly misplace the burden. They insist that the governor bears responsibility for altering his course of action. I believe the exact opposite must...

2004 US Senate Elections These are the states I am watching: Florida: I believe that Martinez will help Bush here. I think Cubans that are having doubts about Bush will support him when they vote for Martinez. I think most Hispanics would like to have Martinez representing them and that will push him past Castor. Castor comes off very old and too loyal to the “party.” And she is in real trouble when she has to explain about how she handled the “terrorist professor” when she was the president of USF. She has been around in politics for over ten...

Our Three (Senate) Amigos (10/21/04 email sent to Club For Growth Members by CFG President Stephan Moore) As we write this, the presidential election and a half dozen Senate races appear headed to a photo finish. We’re working virtually 24/7 to make sure our candidates are victorious on November 2nd. I hope that you don’t mind if we continue to update you on the very highest priority races. These are the candidates who we think are shining stars AND are in desperate need of 11th hour donations because their races are so tight. The outcomes of these elections could decide...

I just got back last week from driving across the country, I live in Washington State and drove to PA in see my wifes family and took I-80 and I-90 back home. With my Bush/Cheney sticker from 2000 in my back window along with my W-04 sticker I got a aproviel rating of about 75% judging from the honks and thumbs ups from fellow drivers. Funny how I got the 1 finger salute from the folks with the Kerry stickers. My question to you is do you vent your hate and anger at fellow drivers on the road with a...

Last night, I was told that a report was recently published by some DC think-tank. This report ranked members of congress in order of taxpayer-friendliness, i.e. it examined their votes on tax-related bills and determined where any particular member of congress came in on higher or lower taxes for their constituents. The same person who told me about the report told me that a whopping 75% of house and senate members from my state were in the top 20 LEAST friendly to taxpayers in their voting records. Have any of you heard of this report? Can you point me to...

I've seen the senate races heating up, but not nearly as much on the house seats. I'm mostly using information from DC POLITICAL REPORT and POLITICS1. STATES Alabama DISTRICT 3 - The other Mike Rogers (R) won in 02 with 50.3% over Democrat Joe Turnham(48.2%) in an open seat. So far, it looks as he is facing Democrat Bill Fuller, Ex-State Human Resources Commissioner. I haven't heard much about this race, but the first defense is hardest. Senate Races to Watch 2004 South Dakota- I expect this one to be a barnburner. Thune is back and now there is a third party candidate (Tim Giago) that leans towards Daschle’s ideology. The Indian reservations in SD have been a haven for democratic votes and Tim Johnson owes his re-election to them. But now that an Indian candidate has applied to run, the Democrats are in trouble here. I expect Bush to visit often and the Republicans to put great effort into this race. The only thing that bothers me is the Janklow factor. He has done some damage...

Journalists, political pundits and other Hysteric Left activists are desperately trying to spin some cosmic significance out of Sunday's Spanish elections. The "conventional wisdom" is that the Spanish Election results are some sort of significant defeat for President Bush and the War on Terror. As usual the "News Media's" thinking is neither conventional nor wise. What all the various activists miss is the reality of American Exceptionalism. As much as the International Political Left hates, and try's to deny, the reality is the USA operates on a completely different political level then the rest of the world. On Sunday, the...

The reason for my apology was that throughout this primary season we have been hearing about the record turnout of voters participating in Democrat caucuses and primaries. I bought the lie. The truth is that, except for Iowa and New Hampshire, there has not been any sort of record turnout for the Democrats. Even in New Hampshire the vote was far less than what the Republicans had when they last had a contested primary in 2000. The Democrats this year had 219,787 votes in their primary. The GOP in 2000 had 239,523 votes. That 20,000 difference is major in a...

http://newsmax.com/archives/ic/2004/3/6/121052.shtml Well isn't this intresting. The "objective news media" supposed 9-11 surviors protesting Bush's ads are actually anti-war stooges financed by John Kerry's wife. Please take a moment and vist the New York Times, Washington Post, MSNBC, CBS, NBC and ABC etc to email the Omsbudsman, the Publisher, the News Editor and demand to know why they allowed clearly partisan advocates of Kerry's Presidential Campaign were presented on their "News" programs with no reference to their ties to the Kerry camp. We absolutely must demand the "News Media" be held accountable for their free advertising for the Kerry camp.

http://www.georgewbush.com/tvads/ Here is a link to the 1st three Bush Re-election ads. As expected the DNC directed its "Objective News Media" mouthpieces at CNN, NBC, CBS and ABC to generate phoney hysteria about these ads. Compared to the demogagery and lies spread by the Kerry Campaign, Moveon.org and the DNC about Bush for the last 6 months, this is probably the mildest sets of ads that have run so far this political season. Please email this link to every person on you email contact list. We need to get as many people as possible to see these ads. They are...

The dust is beginning to settle, and, after all the hype, after all the pundit analysis, after all the expert opinions, basic politics won out. Most people think of the Iowa Caucus in terms of a primary election. It is not. In Iowa, Democratic voters in each precinct gather in a church, school, library, or some other convenient place to elect delegates to the state convention. That convention elects delegates to the national convention, which elects a nominee. The difference is how each caucus election is carried out. When the voters assemble, they gather into groups based on whom they...

U.S. Senate candidate Thomas Ravenel billed himself as "a Reagan Republican" as he stumped for votes in Rock Hill on Thursday, saying federal spending has to be clamped down. Lower taxes and less government are vital for a strong America, Ravenel told the Kiwanis Club during a speech at the City Club of Rock Hill. A strong national defense to fight terrorism is the No. 1 issue facing the country, Ravenel said, but "to pay for it you need a strong economy." Charleston's Ravenel, 41, a real estate developer, is the second Senate candidate to speak to the Kiwanis Club....

Last cycle, much of the action in Senate races took place in the Midwest, with competitive races in Minnesota, Iowa, South Dakota and Missouri ultimately deciding which party would control the chamber. This cycle, the South is the scene of many of the significant races, and that’s terrible news for the Democrats, who continue to lose ground in a region that once constituted their party’s bedrock. In addition to Georgia Sen. Zell Miller (D), who has already announced he won’t seek re-election, at least four other Southern Democrats may well retire: Sens. Fritz Hollings (S.C.), John Edwards (N.C.), Bob Graham...

Condon plans to run for U.S. Senate seatThe chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee says he won't challenge Democratic U.S. Sen. Ernest F. "Fritz" Hollings in 2004, but a fellow Lowcountry Republican says he will. Rep. Bobby Harrell, R-Charleston, said Wednesday that family concerns and his senior position on the powerful budget-writing committee led him to decide against a run for the U.S. Senate. Harrell, who has served in the General Assembly since 1992, did not rule out seeking high office sometime later. Former S.C. Attorney General Charlie Condon, however, said he expects to declare his candidacy officially...

If not Fritz, then who? That's the question Democrats keep asking themselves if U.S. Sen. Fritz Hollings, South Carolina's 81-year-old senior senator, chooses not to seek re-election to a seventh full term. The Charleston senator has been mulling his future ever since Democrats took a drubbing at the polls last November. When Republicans regained control of the Senate, Hollings lost his coveted job as chairman of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee -- and the clout, influence and prestige that go with it. At home, Republicans regained the governor's office, took six of the eight constitutional offices, and retained...

Graham's lead over Sanders remains strong Friday, October 18, 2002 BY SCHUYLER KROPF Of The Post and Courier Staff Republican Lindsey Graham continues to hold a strong lead over Democrat Alex Sanders in the race to replace retiring U.S. Sen. Graham, the state's 3rd District congressman, leads Sanders, the former College of Charleston president, by a 51-34 percent margin in the race to represent South Carolina in the Senate. Inhofe Poll Shows A Big Advantage Sen. James Inhofe (R) holds a comfortable 24-point lead over former Gov.David Walters (D), according to a new poll done for the Republican. Inhofe led 55 percent to 31 percent in the Cole Hargrave Snodgrass & Associates survey, which was conducted Sept. 18-19. Testing 500 registered voters, the poll has a 4.3 percent margin of error. Perhaps more telling than the head-to-head matchup was that 35 percent of those polled were favorably inclined to Walters, while 48 percent thought of him unfavorably. Walters pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor in 1993 for accepting campaign contributions...

June 11, 2002 began for those of us in South Carolina who were involved Primaries at 4 am. We had to be at our polling places by 6:15 to set up and take our oaths and be ready for the voters. Pardon me for interjecting a few facts into the South Carolina Senate race, but I figure it's time to examine the prospects of Democrat Alex Sanders, the 63-year-old former president of the College of Charleston, without the rampant romanticism that has run amok. So far, Democratic Party strategists have crowed about Sanders' personality and resume. Political analyst Joe Klein has written engagingly about his sense of humor, storytelling ability and unfettered naturalness. And CNN's Web site has characterized his race with Rep. Lindsey Graham (R) as if it were close to a tossup. It's time to turn down the volume...

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush demands loyalty in the White House, but bygones are bygones in his drive to help the GOP recapture the Senate. Bush plans to help raise $1 million Wednesday for Rep. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., who backed John McCain over Bush in the 2000 presidential race. Graham crisscrossed South Carolina in McCain's ``Straight Talk Express'' campaign bus convoy that year, talking up the Arizona senator's bid in the state's bitterly contested primary. Bush is traveling around the country to help Republicans regain the Senate, where several of his initiatives have stalled after passing the GOP-controlled House. Later...
