One-fifth of people in the U.S. speak a foreign language at home, according to a report being released Monday by the Center for Immigration Studies, which found Arabic and Urdu — the national language of Pakistan — among the fastest-growing. The report found that nearly half of all California school-age children speak a language other than English at home, as do a third of Texans and Nevadans, according to the report, which is based on Census Bureau numbers.

Japanese police questioned a university student and several others Monday over suspected plans to travel to Syria to join the Islamic State group, news reports said. Mohammed Hamzah Khan, 19, of Bolingbrook was arrested by the FBI at O'Hare International Airport after allegedly supporting overseas terrorism. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, he was attempting to join ISIS. Khan was arrested by the Chicago FBI's Joint Terrorism task force without incident on Saturday night. He was charged in criminal court Monday morning with one count of attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization. He remains in federal custody pending a detention hearing Thursday morning. A group of Indian Islamic militants, operating out of Pakistan, has called for attacks on non Muslims in the region in retaliation for U.S.-led air strikes on ISIS in Iraq and Syria. The head of the little-known Ansar al-Tawhid fi'Bilad al-Hind urged Muslims to kill foreigners and other infidels in mainly Hindu India where Muslims have largely stayed away from global jihad. The Turkish security forces Monday used tear gas to push dozens of reporters and Kurdish civilians away from the border zone close to intense fighting for the besieged Syrian town of Kobani. The armed forces employed tear gas for the second day in a row to push people back from the border area which has become increasingly dangerous owing to mortars fired from Syria, an AFP correspondent reported. Moroccan police arrested a Koran teacher on charges of raping seven boys studying at his centre in the north African Arab country. Medical tests on his latest victim showed the 11-year-old boy was raped by the 36-year-old teacher at the centre in the northern town of Tetouan.
