Churchill’s Ministry of Peace by: Bethany Stotts, September 04, 2008 Ward Churchill, a former ethnic studies professor at the University of Colorado (UC), may have been fired after a UC investigation revealed his plagiarism and poor scholarship, but some anti-war outlets still court the controversial professor’s company. Churchill has shown himself to be more than willing to equate the September 11, 2001 attacks with the death of infants in the Iraq War and to label the victims of the 9/11 attacks as “little Eichmanns.” During a 2006 interview on Hannity & Colmes, Churchill defended his comments, arguing that they were...

Denver: Is there such a thing as wanting to be clapped into the clink? Yes, if the riot-baiting actions of Denver's protesters are to be believed. Just remember: They differ from Democrats only in degree.Funny how radicals are always more angry with Democrats than with Republicans, their theoretically ideological rivals. It seems to be the fury of lovers scorned. As with all such "love," however, it comes from closeness. This is probably the only explanation for why 4,000 self-described anarchists, revolutionaries, direct-action radicals and assorted wackos made their presence known at the Democratic Convention last week. For sure, a sizable...

For those Democrats who are too young to have a proper appreciation of their party's history, which likely includes most of Senator Obama's supporters, we direct your attention to a memorable moment in DNC history that shows how the current nominee really is connected to the party's past as much as its future. It was forty years ago today that Barack Obama friend and political ally, and unrepentant terrorists, William Ayers was arrested while protesting the DNC proceedings. William Ayers set no bombs that day, but he was only working his way up from petty criminal to domestic terrorist. And...

Most people savvy about political matters will know that the leftists will be protesting outside of both conventions this year, as they always do. There will be tear gas, mass arrests, and—as always—there won't be any conservatives involved. We will be keeping a tally of major riot/protest events each day. The MSM will make it difficult, of course, as they have to do their best to shield the Democrats from a 1968 effect. Day 3(scroll for Days 1 and 2) You know, surprisingly enough, there wasn't much in the way of confrontation on Wednesday. Oh sure, there was a...

Fox News Channel isn't always getting fair and balanced treatment from protesters at the Democratic National Convention this week in Denver. In at least two instances this week, Fox News -- which is often accused of conservative leanings despite its "Fair and Balanced" claim -- was under siege by DNC protesters. On Sunday, Fox reporter Griff Jenkins was doing a live shot of what he described as a 1,000-person antiwar protest march, when things went awry. In the shot, which is still getting heavy play on YouTube.com, Jenkins attempts to ask some of the marchers what they were protesting. He...

THEY HELD A RIOT & NOBODY CAMEPosted: 5:54 am August 27, 2008 DENVER NEVER was so much hype created by so few to simulate the appearance of so many. The hard-core left vowed to turn out 50,000 protesters for the Democratic National Convention this week. They pledged to "Re-create '68" and cause the kind of tear-gas-infused revolutionary havoc that marked the DNC in Chicago four decades ago. Police prepared for the worst riots. Media from around the world anticipated the best pictures. But when rhetorical push came to real-life shove, the nostalgic, Marxadoring organizers of Re-create '68 seem to have...

I did get a call from the Denver PD’s convention task force about the Michelle dust-up. The spokesman, a Lt. Saundier, told me that the behavior of the police at the Mint on Monday was not acceptable procedure, and he invited both Michelle and me to file charges. In addition, after the convention is over, he invited me to file an internal affairs complaint. We’ll be sending them links to the video and our coverage...

A 22-year-old Massachusetts man was arrested Monday after police saw him carrying a bottle filled with feces, according to a police report. Zachary Patrick Grey, a University of Massachusetts student from Marion, Ma., was arrested at 1:40 p.m. Monday following a foot chase, according to a Denver County Court complaint. He was the first known person to be charged with possessing bodily waste during the DNC, though the threat of its use has been rumored by police and protesters alike for weeks leading up to the event. "It's disgusting for anyone to throw that at anyone," said Denver Police Lt....

Watch this video and you will be convinced that there is no bigger thug on the planet than Alex Jones. You can clearly see in this VIDEO Alex Jones stirring up a mob who scream "KILL MICHELLE MALKIN!!!" This is a Pajamas Media TV video that starts off on a humorous note about the loons trying to levitate the Denver Mint. However at about the 2:45 mark things get ugly. Very ugly with Jones' ugly face contorted with hate as he stirs up the crowd. This could very easily have erupted into violence. So where were the Denver police?...

Rocky Mountain News excerpt:Code Pink protester shown on video being shoved to the ground by a police officer's baton and later hauled away remains in jail on a charge of interfering with an arrest but should be released tonight, Code Pink officials say. Alicia Forrest was arrested outside Civic Center Park after confronting officers and asking them questions about another arrest they were making, said Sally Newman, legal liaison and spokeswoman for the group. "She was one of a number of people trying to find out where this person was being taken," Newman said. "They just arrested her along with...

In an earlier article, I posted a review of a portion of the 1968 Democrat Party Platform, dealing largely with domestic affairs, and contrasted the claims made in the platform with the actual results once the policies were put into practice. Hindsight is always 20-20. With that in mind, it is instructive to return again to the 1968 Platform, and look at its highlights as it touches on foreign policy. The section entitled “The World” leads off: The conscience of the entire world has been shocked by the brutal and unprovoked Soviet aggression against Czechoslovakia. By this act, Moscow has...

Hundreds of anti-war protesters have demonstrated amid heavy police security in the US city of Denver where the Democratic national convention is set to kick-off on Monday. It was the first in a series of protests by the group Recreate 68, whose name echoes the anti-war protests outside the party's convention in Chicago in 1968. Al Jazeera spoke to five protesters about why they were marching, and their hopes that those attending the convention would listen. About 100 protesters were being processed early today at Denver's temporary processing center in a former warehouse. Depending on their charges, they should be processed by 4 a.m. or 5 a.m., said Capt. Frank Gale of the Denver Sheriff's Office. "It's working exactly the way it is supposed to do," Gale said of the facility. If the detainees have the resources, they could post bond, Gale said. Others could end up being taken back to the main jail. About 7 p.m. Monday, riot police using pepper spray forced a couple of hundred protesters out of Civic Center and then blocked...

Many people have drawn comparisons between the current election cycle and that of 1968. And there are societal parallels – an unpopular war overseas, anarchists outside of the Democrat convention, racial unrest, the possibility of a Minnesotan on a major party ticket, even the Weather Underground. Granted, the racial unrest is with illegal immigrants from Mexico, and the Minnesotan would be on the Republican side. But all in all, there are enough similarities to warm the memories of any aging ex-hippie. So, in a trip down memory lane, here is a list of highlights from the 1968 Democrat party platform,...

Fox Reporter Assaulted By Anti-war Protestors In Denver August 24, 2008 - 15:30 ET The Democratic National Convention hasn't even begun, and the protestors are out trying to Recreate 68. For those unfamiliar, the group "was created for all the grassroots people who are tired of being sold out by the Democratic Party," and are gathering in Denver to "resist a two-party system that allows imperialism and racism to continue unrestrained." High profile activists such as Cindy Sheehan and Cynthia McKinney have already joined the festivities. On Sunday, Fox News's Griff Jenkins tried to speak to these folks as they...

Remember the hot immigration debate? The topic won't be headlining either presidential convention this year — and the border security issue barely drew a crowd Monday to a daylong anti-illegal immigration rally in Denver aimed at keeping immigration before politicians this fall. A rally by the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps featuring Libertarian presidential candidate Bob Barr drew just a few dozen people...

A group of Democratic National Convention protesters have been gathering to block major arteries in downtown Denver, moving each time as police demand they disperse. First the marchers blocked traffic at the intersection of Broadway and Colfax Avenue and briefly refused to move. The protesters, chanting, "no more presidents, no more wars," disrupted traffic along both streets as police tried to move them into either Civic Center or Lincoln Park. After 10 minutes or so, police gave an order to disperse, and the group barely moved. Several officers on horseback arrived and began moving the crowd out of the street....

The are two kinds of demonstrators rallying outside the Pepsi arena and throughout the Mile High City - but only one can really wreck the Democrats' love-fest. First, we have the street activists who operate outside mainstream politics and tend to argue for radical positions. Unlike in 1968, the dedicated anti-war liberals come off as sober, savvy, and fixated on long-term goals. The second group is the collection of rambunctious pro-Hillary Clinton loyalists who are doing their best to create chaos within the convention - and real trouble for party nominee Barack Obama. The Clinton die-hards seem like political brats...

Civic Center seems to be turning ugly. According to Metropolitan photographer Dawn Madura police started moving protesters in to the park. They had previously been in the streets. About 100 cops surrounded the park. Traffic had to be diverted. The march that wound through city streets, stopping traffic and causing police to scramble to mediate between motorists and marchers was dubbed "Reclaiming the Streets". The mass was made up of 37 different liberal groups that entered the streets without a permit. A young girl was seen being arrested for being in the street. She resisted arrest and was forced into...

Moonbats say the darnedest things. And Hot Air special correspondent Jason Mattera is undercover at the Democrat convention in Denver to capture their rants and ramblings. Thanks to the folks at the People’s Press Collective for their help. Jason is back in the field again today for the anti-war circus and will report back soon. Wish him luck. Enjoy:

To the uninformed visitor, it has become difficult to tell whether Denver is preparing for a Democratic National Convention or the institution of martial law. Helicopters filled with armed commandos swooped over downtown in a training exercise earlier this summer. A warehouse was converted into a temporary jail with chain-link fences and signs threatening the use of electric stun devices. Travel agents sold getaway packages to locals, with one company imploring residents to "escape town while you still can." In the local newspapers, Denver officials have outlined several worst-case scenarios: Protesters might chain themselves together with chicken wire, use quick-setting...

I have been watching Fox News today, and they were having trouble going live to their reporter in Denver who was covering the protesters, and my jaw dropped when they finally showed the video. I live in Los Angeles, and the video reminded me of the illegal alien amnesty rallies. The reporter in Denver looked like he was in a war zone! One fo the men behind him had a Crip or Blood gangmember bandana around his face to hide his face. The camera was shaking and the reporter looked real scared. It was amazing. People as far as the...

It was 40 years ago that the most disastrous modern-day national political convention convened in Chicago. The 1968 Democratic convention contributed to Richard Nixon's victory that fall and, in turn, the prolongation of the Vietnam War. It also set the Democratic Party on a course that it has yet to correct... Will Mr. Obama, at the upcoming Democratic convention in Denver, be able to bring Reagan Democrats finally home? I am not counting on it. His Republican opponent, John McCain, has a maverick reputation and an appeal to Reagan Democrats that Mr. Obama will find difficult to match. The Democratic...

Sheehan: "Free speech in cages. We are not animals!" By Mike McPhee and Tom McGhee The Denver Post Anti-war protester Cindy Sheehan urged a crowd of 500 people in Denver today to support alternative candidates. "It's been three years since I camped out in Crawford, Texas and the country is still mired in war in the Middle East," she told the cheering crowd on the west steps of the state Capitol this morning. CIVIC CENTER – While glossy, preprinted signs were in abundance Sunday, there were plenty of hand-crafted signs in protest of the war or in support of abortion rights as well. Some solo protesters circulated with their signs, making their own message heard away from the bullhorns and microphones. Amelie Starkey of Mountain View carried a sign she painted with green paint on cardboard. It read, “Respect the Iraqi People. Pull Out!” “If I had more room, I would have said, ‘Pull Out Now!’,” Starkey said. A member of the Denver Peace Community, she said she has advocated peace for more...

Nineteen Sixty-Eight: The year itself summons images of upheaval. The Paris student riots. The assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert Kennedy. The riots at the Chicago Democratic Convention. The Tet Offensive and the My Lai massacre. The Prague Spring. The Black Power salute at the Mexico City Olympics. The sexual revolution. It was not a time amenable to authority. Yet, in 1968, Pope Paul VI chose to exercise his authority in the most dramatic way imaginable. The resulting earthquakes are still shaping the Church. The first earthquake was Humanae Vitae (The Regulation of Birth), the papal encyclical affirming...
