On July 24th, 2023, a three-judge panel of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit refused the government’s attempt to stay the district court’s decision in the case of VanDerStok v. Garland, which vacated the ATF’s “frame or receiver” rule. The preliminary injunction against enforcement of the frame and receiver portions of the Final Rule was issued by Judge O’Conner on August 17, 2022. The Memorandum Opinion by Judge Reed O’Conner, published on June 30, 2023, vacated (ruled them to be unlawful) the ATF’s Final Rule. Judge O’Conner, told the ATF (the Biden Administration) it did not...

While all the crazy events surrounding our White House and the District of Columbia have been unfolding, the BATFE has attempted to slip one by us. Known as 'Proposed Rule 2021R-05', the bureau intends to arbitrarily change quite a few definitions, and create new ones, such that the level of change is equivilent to MAKING law, not INTERPRETING it. They have a period, ending tomorrow, in which individuals and organizations can comment on the propositions. While it seems like a pointless exercise, it is not. The ATF has withdrawn rules before when there has been numerous negative comments. I've submitted...

The NFL released a commercial in support of Oakland Raiders defensive end Carl Nassib declaring that “football is gay.” “Football is gay,” the 30-second commercial begins. "Football is lesbian. Football is beautiful. Football is queer. Football is life. Football is exciting. Football is culture. Football is transgender. Football is queer. Football is heart. Football is power. Football is tough. Football is bisexual. Football is strong. Football is freedom. Football is American. Football is accepting. Football is everything. Football is for everyone." The NFL debuted the commercial on social media, tweeting that “the NFL stands by the LGBTQ+ community today and...
  • New Receiver Will Boost Interplanetary Communication

Spacecraft have relatively weak receivers, so you need to beam a strong radio signal to them. They also transmit relatively weak signals back. You need a large sensitive radio dish to capture the reply. For spacecraft beyond the orbit of Earth, this is done through the Deep Space Network (DSN), which is a collection of radio telescopes custom designed for the job. The DSN is already being pushed to its data limits... Human missions would require orders of magnitude more bandwidth. When we return to the Moon and place our first footsteps on Mars, we will want not only scientific...
  • Odell Beckham among four injured Giants receivers

The worst-case scenario has arrived for the New York Giants. With four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter against the Chargers, Odell Beckham Jr. landed awkwardly after attempting to catch a high slant pass and left the field in a trainer's cart. Wincing in pain, Beckham covered his face as the cart left the field. The injury was to his left ankle, which was trapped against the ground on the play. So it goes for the Giants, who already saw Brandon Marshall, Dwayne Harris and Sterling Shepard ruled out -- and possibly longer. On the next play following Beckham's injury,...

Counter-arguments to charges by Obama administration supporters that Fast and Furious “gunwalking” began in the Bush-era Operation Wide Receiver program have been gaining wider attention over the past few days, with numerous tips and inquiries being sent by readers to Gun Rights Examiner for comment. Just as with many of the wrong assumptions being promulgated by administration supporters, there are some misconceptions being promoted by its detractors that require clarification if the goal is to understand what happened, as opposed to merely spreading a “perception becomes reality” meme. Among these misconceptions being repeated: that no Wide Receiver guns “walked” to...

Majority of Republicans: Obama is a Muslim A new national Louis Harris poll finds that a majority of Republicans believe that President Obama is a Muslim, while 45 percent agree with the so-called "Birthers" that the president was "not born in the United States." The poll of 2,230 Americans, taken during last weekend's health care showdown in the House of Representatives, shows how successful Obama's opponents have been in demonizing the 44th president. Full results are expected tomorrow, but preliminary findings were released in The Daily Beast by John Avlon, whose book "Wingnuts" details the hyper-partisanship that has swept America...

The federal receiver in charge of California's inmate health care system said Thursday that the two prisons Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger wants to build should be used instead as hospitals for inmates. The proposal was among a wide range of initiatives outlined by Robert Sillen in his first in-depth interview since he was given broad authority to reform the inmate health care system, which has been plagued for years by poor treatment and neglect. "Why spend that money twice?" Sillen told The Associated Press during an interview in his capital office. "It would seem to me the smart way to go...

The federal receiver appointed to oversee California's troubled inmate health care system calls conditions inside the state's prisons disgraceful and says they are even worse than he anticipated, according to a report released Wednesday. "Almost every necessary element of a working medical care system either does not exist or functions in a state of abject disrepair," Robert Sillen wrote in his first report since he began overseeing California's $1.1 billion inmate health care system in April. Sillen was appointed by U.S. District Court Judge Thelton Henderson, who took over the health care system a year ago, and was ordered to...
