ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Former Gov. Pete Wilson urged his fellow Republicans on Saturday not to make light of a recall drive against Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. He told delegates at the California Republican Party's fall convention that they should take the threat from the state prison guards union seriously, even if it isn't likely to succeed. "I hope that I don't have to tell you what an ill-considered idea that is. We did it once; we did not do it lightly," he said, referring to the 2003 recall of former Gov. Gray Davis, a Democrat, an election that sent Schwarzenegger to...

California Republicans who consider themselves the party's conservative "conscience" will consider bucking their own party's governor this weekend to endorse the proposed recall of Arnold Schwarzenegger. The board of directors of the California Republican Assembly will gather during the state party's convention in Anaheim for the recall vote. "It's one of those issues that we need to talk about," said Mike Spence, the president of the arch-conservative organization and consistent Schwarzenegger critic. "The governor has been a failure when it comes to fiscal issues of California." Earlier this month, the well-heeled state correctional officers' union filed paperwork to begin the...

The state prison guard union says Arnold Schwarzenegger should be removed from office for "gross fiscal mismanagement," "reckless borrowing," "soliciting and accepting special-interest money at levels never before seen in California history," "betraying voter trust and mortgaging our children's future." Hogwash. The California Correctional Peace Officers Association, which announced plans last week to recall the governor, couldn't care less about the state budget, good government or the financial plight of future generations. It's true that Schwarzenegger has broken all state fundraising records, making his recalled predecessor look inept at checkbook politics; irresponsibly borrowed his way out of budget deficits; and...

First of all, I'm not sure in which forum to post this. I do not keep up with all the bills passed in the California State Legislature. But this just came in my email, so I checked it out. Dear Friends: This is an issue that is pretty much going under the radar, and I think we all need to make this telephone call. This is real. I just called. It took less than 30 seconds. It is just a recording and pressing 2 to say NO. Please read it!!! AB 2567 has passed the California Assembly and the Senate...

When a ragtag band of conservative Republican activists first served notice on then-Gov. Gray Davis that they intended to recall him from office in the spring of 2003, the Democratic chief executive didn't take them seriously. But a few months later, with the help of money from a millionaire Southern California congressman, the recall effort had qualified for the ballot. By November, Davis was gone. Now Arnold Schwarzenegger is facing a similar but even more credible threat. And he is not taking it lightly. Nor should he. But if the group that is out to get Schwarzenegger follows through on...

Unwilling or unable to return to the bargaining table to negotiate a contract, the leadership of the California Correctional Peace Officers Association has taken up swords in a desperate crusade. Union leaders can't buy Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has never accepted CCPOA contributions, so now they want to recall him. First, they tried to get legislators to restore a deeply flawed 2001-2006 contract. To that end, they dumped $477,000 into Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata's Leadership California committee. That effort died. Now union leaders look with nostalgia at Gov. Gray Davis and believe the 2003 recall was a mistake....

Schwarzenegger's term ends in 2010 and he can not run again. The 30,000-plus-member union has long been at odds with Schwarzenegger, but his order in July to cut the pay of prison guards to the minimum wage sparked their latest confrontation. Schwarzenegger also ordered job cuts for an estimated 22,000 temporary state employees and sharply reduced wages for 200,000 other workers after California began its fiscal year on July 1 without a budget. Corcoran said prison guards should be exempt from the pay cuts in light of their public safety role. They manage the largest state prison network in the...

With the state's prison guards union threatening to launch a recall, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said Monday he would not be intimidated by the union. "I will not be intimidated by anybody that is demanding more money than the state can afford and that demands deals more than the state is wanting to give," Schwarzenegger said. "So the prison guard union is not going to intimidate me with their kind of action." "This is a different governor sitting here," he added. "I will not get intimidated." Schwarzenegger was swept into the California governorship four years and eleven months ago in a...

As if Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger didn't have enough troubles with the state's $17.2 billion budget mess, now comes word that there may be a move afoot to recall him. Well-placed Sacramento sources tell us the state's politically powerful and well-financed prison guards union has lawyers drawing up language for a recall initiative. Word is, the union will decide within the next couple of weeks whether to hit the streets with petitions. Recalling Schwarzenegger - who himself rode into office with the 2003 recall of then-Gov. Gray Davis - is probably a long shot at best. Still, Schwarzenegger has angered fellow...

Canadians are being told to dig through their fridges and freezers for any of the 220 Maple Leaf Foods products recalled by the Toronto-based company after test results linked a plant in north Toronto to a nationwide listeriosis outbreak. The recall is one of the biggest in Canadian history, federal officials said yesterday. Michael McCain, president and chief executive officer of the 100-year-old company, said the expanded recall will cost the company an estimated $20 million in refunds to consumers and in plant cleanup. In the wake of four deaths, "we had to take the most conservative approach possible," McCain...

I supported and voted for Arnold Schwarzenegger for California governor over Tom McClintock. Not only that, I ridiculed McClintock and his supporters. If I knew then what I know now, I would have supported and voted for McClintock. I hereby openly apologize to McClintock and his supporters. I was wrong. How about the other people here who supported Arnold in 2003: Agree? Disagree?

California: What has changed since Golden State voters ousted Gray Davis and cast their lot with Arnold Schwarzenegger's star power? Not much — except for $41 billion in new spending. What's big, blue and red all over? The great, Democrat-dominated and profligate state government of California. At a point when most state lawmakers and chief executives have put their budgets to bed, neatly balanced, and taken off for some R&R, the Legislature and governor of California are still wrangling over a budget that is roughly $15 billion out of balance. This is nothing new. We've been hearing about these budget gaps,...

BATON ROUGE -- In a sign that the public frustration about the legislative pay raise has spread to Gov. Bobby Jindal's base, a political novice and former Jindal supporter from Jefferson Parish has filed a recall petition against him. Ryan and Kourtney Fournier of Jefferson submitted paperwork to the secretary of state's office that allows them to attempt to collect the nearly 1 million signatures needed during the next 180 days to force a recall election of the governor. The papers were mailed Thursday and arrived Friday. Ryan Fournier, 32, said he is a registered Republican and was "a huge...

Officials in the Louisiana Secretary of State's office say a recall petition has been filed for Governor Bobby Jindal, making him the fifth elected official to face a recall attempt since the state legislature voted itself a payraise earlier this month. For a recall election to be called, the signatures of one-third of all registered voters in the state must be collected. That would be a total of 960,285 voters. Ryan Fournier of Jefferson submitted the recall petition. Other lawmakers facing recall attempts include House Speaker Jim Tucker (R-Terrytown), Rep. Steve Pugh (R-Ponchatoula), Rep. Joseph Lopinto (R-Metairie) and Rep. Franklin...

As the Massachusetts State Legislature debates "Jessica's Law" -- named after Jessica Lunsford who was raped and murdered in Florida by a repeat sex offender -- one representative who is against the law expressed his displeasure on the floor of the House. Really expressed his displeasure. The representative, one James Fagan, said he'd “rip apart” 6-year-old victims on the witness stand and “make sure the rest of their life is ruined.” In a fiery soliloquy on the House floor, Fagan said he’d grill victims so that, “when they’re 8 years old they throw up; when they’re 12 years old, they...

The abortive effort to recall Republican state Sen. Jeff Denham this year will occupy a niche in the history of California political oddities. The Democratic leader of the Senate, Don Perata, launched the recall drive last year after Denham joined other Republican senators, save one, in blocking passage of the state budget for weeks, contending that it was dangerously out of balance. The supposed rationale for the recall drive against Denham, a second-termer whose district sprawls over a multicounty swath of Central California farmland, was that he had betrayed promises to be a moderate. And Perata dumped hundreds of thousands...

Morristown, NJ - The manufacturer of Digitek digoxin tablets is recalling the product, saying that it may have accidentally released pills that are double the normal thickness, carrying twice the normal dose [1]. Digoxin is used in the treatment of arrhythmias and heart failure, and a double dose could cause toxicity, most notably in patients with renal failure. According to a press release from Digitek's manufacturer, Actavis, digitalis toxicity "can cause nausea, vomiting, dizziness, low blood pressure, cardiac instability, and bradycardia," and even death. The FDA is alerting doctors and the public to the recall via its MedWatch program. The...

State Senate leader Don Perata on Thursday said the recall drive he is backing against a Central Valley Republican will help Democrats pass a budget with tax increases if it succeeds. If Sen. Jeff Denham of Merced is replaced by the lone Democrat on the recall ballot, it would leave Democrats just one vote short of the two-thirds majority they need to pass the budget in the Senate. "If I have an opportunity of picking up a Democrat who would support a balanced approach to solving the budget problem, I'm going to do that," Perata, the Senate's president pro tem,...

His name doesn't appear on the ballot, but state Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata is the indisputable driving force behind the recall of Sen. Jeff Denham, the first of a California legislator since 1995.Ostensibly, the Democratic leader's effort to unseat a Republican who was easily re-elected in 2006 stems from last year's 53-day state budget stalemate. Denham joined his GOP colleagues in voting against the spending plan. But beyond the bad blood over the budget, a successful recall would move Democrats, who hold a commanding 25-15 lead in the Senate, to within one vote of being able to pass a...

Here is a story that details how far Democrats will go to destroy the people's ability to be heard in government. It also shows Democrat's penchant to abuse their power, their blatant waste of government funds, and the incestuous relationship that the anti-democratic process unions have with Democrats. Up in Michigan, the thieves in the Democrat Party voted in a gigantic tax increase. Michigan has been mired in a one state recession for quite a while and Governor Jennifer Granholm's only solution has been to raise taxes to pay for government "shortfalls" -- and by "shortfall" you can read government...

Holding an election to recall state Sen. Jeff Denham, R-Atwater, may seem like a juicy political move for some Senate Democrats. But it also will be an unneeded distraction at a time when the Legislature can least afford one. Democrats say they are going after Denham because he voted against last year's budget, flip-flopped on support for schools and voted against a flood control bond, etc. Yet as we all know, Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata isn't trying to unseat Denham to enforce policy purity, or crack down on hypocrisy. (If that were the case, dozens of recalls would...

WASHINGTON – While China continues to promise to impose higher safety standards on exports, a WND study shows two of every three products recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission last year were Chinese imports – with an upward trend of defective, unsafe products found in every quarter of 2007. In 2006, the CPSC recalled a total of 467 kinds of products – 221 of which...

The animal abuse by the employees using the forklift have more far reaching implications than the abuse itself. The risk of E.Coli, salmonella or mad cow disease contamination is much greater because of the animal being shoved across the hard surfaces where the hide and possibly meat can come into contact with these various diseases. When the animal is then processed and mixed with the other beef, it is very hard to tell which package of beef is contaminated. That is why such a large amount (143 million pounds) of beef is being recalled.

Ted Costa isn't one to take government tomfoolery lying down. Costa, who heads the People's Advocate political watchdog group and was a leading architect of the 2003 recall campaign that toppled Gov. Gray Davis, is incensed that Democrats are trying to recall Sen. Jeff Denham, R-Atwater. Chief among Denham's alleged crimes is that he opposed the state budget last year. But Costa says he's thinking about launching a recall against Senate-leader-to-be Darrell Steinberg, unless Steinberg repudiates the Denham recall effort. Costa's grounds: Steinberg helped get the state in its current fiscal mess by supporting last year's budget. "The budget is...

Even the world's most repressive regimes often have laws on the books that pretend to grant citizens certain political rights. What matters is the extent to which citizens are actually allowed to use those rights — you know, in real life. In Michigan, taxpayers are now trying to recall ten state legislators, and in the process testing how "real life" their democratic rights are. The ten targeted solons come from both parties. Prior to their fateful votes to raise taxes against their constituent wishes, taxpayer groups repeatedly warned them that a recall effort would be launched against them if they...
