I doubt I'll ever get a straight answer, or a straight believable answer, but whose brilliant idea was it to sick the swat team on a peacable crowd whose only obvious transgression was singing our national anthem off key. I think that one picture of the grannys with the riot gear outfitted swat team menacing them from across the street should be on every anti- incumbent sign this election cycle, Vote for the dims and this is what you get!

It was the kind of emergency call every dispatcher dreads. The one about his own house. Quincy Police 911 dispatcher Mike Bowes knew something was wrong Friday when dozens of callers suddenly jammed his lines. “I was talking to an EMT when the call came in, all the lines lit up red,” he said. “That happens when a lot of people call at once. I said ‘This isn’t good.’ ” The 11-year veteran, who has steered help to thousands of emergencies, doesn’t startle easily, but what he heard when he started taking the calls floored him. “The first one said,...

When it came time to vote to open the floor to allow the speaker, a mixed voice vote took place. A roll call vote ensued and the seven Democrats denied McQueen's opportunity to speak while...

Last of two parts. The leader of the local Islamic organization preparing to build a major new mosque in Boston is allegedly linked to a network of Muslim companies and charitable groups in Virginia suspected by federal investigators of providing material support to Islamic terrorists. The chairman of the board of trustees of the Islamic Society of Boston, which has city approval to construct a $22 million cultural center and mosque in Roxbury, was also a leader of an Indiana-based Muslim organization known for its anti-Western rhetoric and for providing a platform for radical Islamists, some of whom have been...

A CHURCH GROUP WITH A HISTORIC TIE TO QUINCY HAS VOTED TO LEAVE ITS DENOMINATION. THE DIOCESE OF QUINCY, FOUNDED IN 1877 AND NOW BASED IN PEORIA, IS HOLDING ITS ANNUAL CONVOCATION AT ST. JOHN'S CHURCH ON HAMPSHIRE STREET THIS WEEKEND. IN AN EARLY SESSION, DELEGATES HAVE VOTED TO SEVER THEIR TIES WITH THE EPISCOPAL CHURCH. THE NOW-RETIRED BISHOP OF QUINCY SAYS THE NATIONAL CHURCH HAS BEEN UNWILLING TO DEFINE COMMON GROUND WITH THOSE WHO HOLD TO TRADITIONAL CHRISTIAN TEACHING AND HAS REJECTED THE AUTHORITY OF THE ANGLICAN COMMUNION. THE DIOCESE, INCLUDING HISTORIC ST. JOHN'S CHURCH, WILL JOIN ANOTHER PROVINCE...

Professor John Lewis Gaddis’ recent provocative analysis of the origins of “unilateralism” in American foreign policy highlights the pivotal role of John Quincy Adams. With candor and humility, Gaddis further reveals that his own contemporary assessment, “…is not a new interpretation. If you go back and read the famous Samuel Flagg Bemis, the very distinguished Yale diplomatic historian from half a century ago, Bemis was certainly making this argument about the importance of John Quincy Adams. But I think this has been lost somewhat in intervening years. So, to an extent, I am trying to rediscover John Quincy Adams, in...

EAGLE, Colo. - Attorneys for NBA star Kobe Bryant asked the judge to dismiss the sexual assault charge against him, saying prosecutors have refused to turn over details that could suggest he is innocent. Court rules require prosecutors and defense attorneys to exchange evidence and witness opinions before trial, a process called discovery. In a motion made public Wednesday, defense attorneys said a forensics expert whom prosecutors had planned to call as a witness had information that "undermined the accuser's allegations and the prosecution's case, and corroborated Mr. Bryant's defense on a central issue — the cause and significance of...
