Given that weÂ’re spending billions of stimulus dollars to rebuild our highways, it makes sense to think about what weÂ’ll be driving on them. For years to come, most of what we drive will be powered, at least in part, by diesel fuel or gasoline. To fuel that driving, we need access to oil. The less use we make of our own reserves, the more we will have to import, which leads to a number of harmful consequences. That means we need to drill here and drill now. We rely on petroleum for much more than just powering our vehicles:...

What's Glenn Beck Up To? Something Big, He Says Hey -- we like conspiracies too! Here's one, with some fact attached to it: conservative media icon Glenn Beck is planning something big -- very big -- for 2010. On his radio show yesterday, Beck alluded to a major nationwide mobilization project of some kind that he and some colleagues will soon announce. "If you think the 9/12 project was something...you ain't seen nothing yet," he said (roughly -- I didn't have a pen handy when he uttered this). Beck's 9/12 project brought tens of thousands of his ideological compatriots to...

Senators diverted $2.6 billion in funds in a defense spending bill to pet projects largely at the expense of accounts that pay for fuel, ammunition and training for U.S. troops, including those fighting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to an analysis.

Fifty-three House Republicans have written President Barack Obama asking him to remove "safe schools czar" Kevin Jennings from that position. The lawmakers accused Jennings of "pushing a pro-homosexual agenda" and said that Jennings's past writings exhibit a record that makes him unfit for the position. "We respectfully request that you remove Kevin Jennings, the Assistant Deputy Secretary for the Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools, from your Administration," the Republicans wrote. "It is clear that Mr. Jennings lacks the appropriate qualifications and ethical standards to serve in this capacity."

I would like to extend warm birthday wishes to Margaret Thatcher today. Baroness Thatcher continues to remain a role model to many people, particularly women, around the world. Her career is a collection of "firsts." She was the youngest female Conservative Party member to stand for election in history, she was the first woman to hold the title Leader of the Opposition, and she was the first woman to become Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. As Prime Minister, she took an active role in defending economic freedom and democratic ideals. Her push to privatize British industry and lower tax...

"His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population." - Nobel Peace Prize Committee of the Norwegian Parliament announcing the award to Barack Obama of the 2009 Nobel Prize for Peace. It's not about Barack Obama. It's about the United States of America and its role in history and in the world. The unambiguous message of the Nobel Peace Prize Committee of the Storting, Norway's parliament, is candidly stated in the public announcement of...

A major new report confirms the worst fears of many: Health care reform will raise the costs for most Americans—by about 18% on average. That is on top of existing inflation of health coverage. Once the plan is fully phased-in (by 2019), a typical family of four would pay an extra $4,000 each year. When combined with existing inflation, costs would rise from today’s $12,300 annual average to $25,900. Of that 111% increase, $9,600 is due to existing factors uncorrected by the legislation, and $4,000 due to additional costs created by the legislation. For single persons, the differential is projected...

Just when you thought things couldn't possibly get any worse (from The Times)... The Obama administration is considering outbidding the Taliban to persuade Afghan villagers to lay down arms as it struggles to find a new approach to a war that is fast losing public and congressional support. Didn't we send troops to Afghanistan to fight the Taliban? Now the Obama administration is wanting to legitimize yet another terrorist group: Apart from training more Afghan troops, the focus has shifted to accepting a political role for the Taliban, while also trying to weaken them by winning some over. Once again,...

Dozens Rally Against NJ School's Obama Song BURLINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS) ― About 70 protesters let their voices be heard outside a school in New Jersey where students sang praise of President Barack Obama. Members of anti-tax Tea Party groups and others joined outside B. Bernice Young School in Burlington Township Monday to denounce what they believe was political indoctrination of students. The school houses children in kindergarten through second grade. The school began getting attention from conservative commentators last month after a video surfaced of a group of second-graders singing a song that praised Obama last school year. Protesters...

NEWARK, Del. — Finding character witnesses when you are 6 years old is not easy. But there was Zachary Christie last week at a school disciplinary committee hearing with his karate instructor and his mother’s fiancé by his side to vouch for him. Zachary’s offense? Taking a camping utensil that can serve as a knife, fork and spoon to school. He was so excited about recently joining the Cub Scouts that he wanted to use it at lunch. School officials concluded that he had violated their zero-tolerance policy on weapons, and Zachary now faces 45 days in the district’s reform...

INDIANAPOLIS -- The mother of a 7-year-old boy with autism and a severe peanut allergy has filed a lawsuit claiming a teacher tossed her son a peanut-filled Mr. Goodbar candy bar in hopes of sickening him and keeping him from going on a zoo field trip. The boy didn't eat the candy bar, but Anita Young said her son suffered physical and emotional abuse at the hands of his teacher, and filed a lawsuit in Marion County against her son's Indianapolis school. Young also wants criminal charges filed against teacher Trinda Barocas.

Soldier suspended from school Posted: Oct 8, 2009 05:26 PM A NEWS10 EXCLUSIVE By MARK O'BRIEN LANSINGBURGH -- High school senior Matthew Whalen is the kind of student any parent would want. He's an Eagle Scout, on the honor roll, taking Advanced Placement classes, and never been in trouble with the law. He's received commendations from the City of Troy and the Boy Scouts of America for saving a woman's life, and this past summer, he completed Army basic training. All of it was accomplished before the age of 17. "I'm just trying to do what I can while I...

The total lack of respect among some of the young punks roaming the streets of America is absolutely appalling. They have no respect for their teachers, parents, law enforcement, neighbors, America, the rule of law, any authority or themselves. Some punks have no respect for your life or their own pathetic lives, and that makes them extremely dangerous. Rarely does a week go by that I don't read an article or hear of a teacher being attacked by one of these vicious punks in our schools. As I write this from moose camp in the Yukon Territory, this past week...

A sea change has occurred in the education of American women: young girls often academically out-perform boys, are more likely to succeed in college and have flooded once all-male professional schools, notably law and business. For example, U.S. Census Bureau figures show that while the male and female population is about equal, males comprise some 58 percent of all high school drop-outs. Similarly, the number of females entering college between 1967 and 2000 increased by 20 percent, while the proportion of men declined by 4 percent. The American Council on Education’s statistics revealed that in 2005 women earned 57 percent...

The official government data about literacy in America are dreadful: 32 million adults can't read printed material more challenging than a children's picture book; another 18 million are walking around with high school diplomas, but can't read above the sixth-grade level and have considerable difficulty making simple two-step calculations. Together, these groups comprise about 25 percent of the adult population. America has so many illiterates and near illiterates, and their number grows by more than 2 million every year, because 3 in 10 students never finish high school and 1 in 4 graduates come away with the equivalent of an...

Meet Kevin Jennings, the man now in charge of safety for America’s government-run schools. He begins his reign as “safe schools czar” like many Obama appointees — with an awkward declaration about previous transgressions related to his new employment. The “situation,” or “this kind of thing” as he calls it, refers to Jennings’ days as a private school teacher in the spring of 1988 when a 15-year-old student confessed to him that he had engaged in homosexual acts with an adult stranger he had met at a city bus station. Jennings “listened, sympathized, and offered advice” to the youth, but...

Got kids in public schools? You've seen the videos of the sing-a-longs with the little ones trumpeting the praises of the "Lord Jesus Obama" right? Here's a song you can sing with your kiddies to offset the attempted indoctrination of the public schools! NOTE: The author of this comic requests that you visit his web site and please refrain from copying the cartoon within this thread. Thanks!

EDITOR'S NOTE: By now, many have seen the videos of the indoctrination of very young American children in a New Jersey public school, taught to sing the praises of Barack Hussein Obama. Below are lyrics to two of these songs. The first, stylized to the classic "Battle Hymn of the Republic", written by Julia Ward Howe in 1861, has young children singing the praises of Barack Hussein Obama. Next, read the original lyrics to the "Battle Hymn of the Republic" which was penned for the abolitionist movement and became a rallying cry for the Union during the American Civil War....

Hypothetical situation: The year is 1988. You are a high school teacher in Concord, Massachusetts and one day a 15-year-old sophomore tells you that an older man he encountered in a Boston bus station restroom had sex with him. Do you: A. Do nothing. B. Ask for more information about the situation, inform your superiors so that they can inform his parents, Child Protective Services and the proper Authorities. C. Tell him to use a condom. If you’re a normal, rational, compassionate human being, you would obviously answer ‘B’. If you are Kevin Jennings–Obama’s “safe schools czar” and the founder...

Choosing Schools in Nebraska by: Allie Winegar Duzett, October 01, 2009 School choice has long been a topic of debate among those concerned with American education. Should the government have a monopoly over education? Or should Americans instead be allowed to use vouchers to send their children to schools that could compete with the government’s public school system? Paul DiPerna of the Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice recently interviewed 1,200 “likely” Nebraskan voters to see how residents of the state feel about issues with education, including school choice. The study has a 95% confidence level. DiPerna’s study found that Nebraska’s...

Introduction Imagine that one afternoon you ask your child or grandchild who is in 7th grade, ―What did you learn in school today?‖ Much to your surprise they answer, ―I learned about the African exodus to America after our country was founded.‖ ―African exodus to America?‖ you ask. ―I never heard it called that before.‖ ―Yes, it‘s all here in my textbook. My teacher says that earlier explanations of how Africans came to the new world as ―slaves‖ were written by uninformed, America-hating authors who have been discredited.‖ You open her brand-new textbook to the chapter on ―The African Exodus...

Why does Kevin Jennings still have a job in the Obama Administration as "Safe Schools" Czar? As a teacher in 1988 a 15 year old male student confided in him that he was having sex with an older male. Jennings response to the boy was, "I hope you had sense enough to use a condom." If this was a 15 year old female student would his response have been the same? When confronted with the issue Jennings replied, "Twenty one years later I can see how I should have handled this situation differently. I should have asked for more information...

OMG. This is why my daughter's mother and I make sure she stays out of LAUSD. Indoctrination runs deep in public schools. When President Obama kicked the school year off with a speech that the mindless robots teachers could use as a template for making sure the kiddies were infused with a 1969 mindset, we on the Right were accused of being paranoid. For the millionth time, Lightbringers, it's not paranoia if it is actually happening. The beautiful thing about being a small part of the anti-Obama noise is that I don't have to engage in conspiracy theories. His faithful...

If the academic year gets pushed deeper into summer, as President Obama is advocating, the grumbling will not be limited just to students and teachers who will be forced to spend more days in school. Critics say the president's call for a longer academic calendar and a shorter summer vacation will bring on a host of unintended consequences -- including increased costs for school systems, major cuts to the nation's hotel and tourism industries, and a serious blow to summer camp operators. Obama says kids in the U.S. spend too little time in the classroom, putting them at a disadvantage...

WASHINGTON – Students beware: The summer vacation you just enjoyed could be sharply curtailed if President Barack Obama gets his way. Obama says American kids spend too little time in school, putting them at a disadvantage with other students around the globe. "Now, I know longer school days and school years are not wildly popular ideas," the president said earlier this year. "Not with Malia and Sasha, not in my family, and probably not in yours. But the challenges of a new century demand more time in the classroom."

Did Ed post this one already? I’m honestly starting to lose count of how many of these there are. Fun fact: According to the YouTube description, this was taped at a PTA meeting. Presumably the parents were...

As a person working in education and a former school student I have to say that this is one of the dumbest requests I've heard in at least a week. President Obama looks like he will bow to the radical left-wing of the Education lobby and may increase not only the school day, but also the length of the school year.

This first video is the now infamous video of kindergarteners singing a song in praise of President Obama at B. Bernice Young Elementary School in New Jersey. It's one of the creepiest and most disturbing videos I've seen in a while. It's for good reason that it's disturbing. It's almost become a cliche to refer to this video as something akin to Mao, Kim Jong Il, and Stalin. In those nations, we would expect such a video. We shouldn't expect it in America. Yet, that's exactly what we have. Worse yet, these are kindergarteners and so in no position to...

Day by day we used this tiny window of...

It began last year in earnest. But, like a virus far worse than H1N1, it is beginning to spread like wildfire amongst the public school indoctrinators formerly known as "teachers." The Obama power grab — supported by his adoring adherents — has just about reached the most monumental proportion of all time. And Dictator-in-Chief Obama may have finally reached the apex of his desires; that of replacing God with himself. Recently, at New Jersey's B. Bernice Youngs Elementary School, not only were second grade students forced to sing a song of praise to Obama (the parents were not notified that...

The principal of a New Jersey elementary school where young students were videotaped singing the praises of President Obama is making no apologies for the videotape and says she would allow the performance again if she could, according to parents who spoke with her Thursday night. Bernice Young Elementary School in Burlington, N.J., defended the controversial performance, which was videotaped and posted on YouTube, when they approached her during a "Back to School" event. Parent Jim Angelillo said King told him the lesson was merely part of Black History...

The Republican National Committee has sent a fundraising email to supporters tied to what it calls the "fanaticism" displayed in a video of New Jersey elementary-school students singing a song praising President Obama. "Friend, this is the type of propaganda you would see in Stalin's Russia or Kim Jong Il's North Korea," Steele writes. "I never thought the day would come when I'd see it here in America." These haunting and unbelievable videos are demonstrative of a phenomenon happening in the schools all across America. Seemingly innocuous activities full of subliminal messages that children are not mature enough to cope with. Some are suggesting that Soetoro’s September 8 speech was totally harmless and even appropriate. For those who say that they are wrong on both counts. Everything that Soetoro does has an ulterior motive because he is trained in the methods Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals, which is a rule book for how to undermine the government by stealth. Sounds strange because it is. Fact is you can’t...

BURLINGTON TOWNSHIP -- New Jersey's education commissioner ordered a review after a YouTube video shows school children learning a song celebrating President Barack Obama. Primary schoolchildren filmed singing a song praising President Obama are at the centre of a storm of controversy in the U.S. after the video was posted on the internet. In case you were wondering which school taught kids that “Barack Hussein Obama mmm mmm mmm” rap that I posted yesterday afternoon (http://michellemalkin.com/2009/09/23/dear-leader-in-the-classroom/), here are some new details.
