Hey, I’ve got a neat idea — why don’t we just keep growing the government, until we all can have government jobs? That can work, right? Seventy-three percent of the new civilian jobs created in the United States over the last five months are in government, according to official data published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. … In the same five-month period since June, the number of people employed by government increased by 621,000 to 20,559,000. These 621,000 new government jobs created in the last five months equal 73.3 percent of the 847,000 new jobs created overall.

A major public university hosted an event last Wednesday which was aimed at teaching students how to properly use sex toys. The University of California – Merced (UCM) sponsored the event, entitled “Is There a Buzz in Your Bed,” which had the stated goal of teach students about “various sex toys” and different ways “to play as a couple or alone.”

Sheriff Deputies had requested an increase in pay after the county cut benefits and 51 paid positions last year. Let’s leave aside for a moment the issues over which the Chicago teachers are striking, and assume that they have a legitimate beef (I know it’s a stretch, but work with me here). The larger issue is whether these teachers should be allowed to strike or even be unionized in the first place. Taxpayers are fed up with the double whammy of high unemployment in the private sector, and relatively full employment in the public sector, thanks to the taxes paid by those dwindling numbers of private workers.

House Speaker Kurt Zellers, R-Maple Grove, is calling on state Rep. Kerry Gauthier, DFL-Duluth, to step down.
