Palestinian Authority special forces were praised by an American general this week for becoming the founders of a new Arab country within Israel's current borders. "As I look at you, I couldn't be more proud of the fact that you stepped up to be the founders of a Palestinian state," U.S. Lt.-Gen. Keith Dayton told a battalion in his speech to the troops Monday in Tulkarm.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was waterboarded 183 times. We practiced sleep deprivation on him for 11 straight days. I don't know how many times we smashed his head against a wall, slapped him in the face, put him in a stress position in a freezing room and/or put him in a coffin sized box in extreme heat. But the right-wing argues that it doesn't matter because none of this is torture. They are adamant in saying that it is not even open to interpretation. Because, remember, if it's at least open to interpretation, we should investigate to see if laws were...

The government has suspended ties with Britain's largest Muslim group and demanded that one of its leaders should be removed from office for allegedly supporting violence against Israel. The news comes on the eve of the launch of a major government strategy aimed at fostering closer ties with Muslims to help counter the threat of Islamist terrorism. The launch tomorrow of Contest 2, the government's revised counter-terrorism strategy, comes after ministers decided to stop engaging with the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB).

BAT AYIN, West Bank (AP) — An ax-wielding Palestinian militant went on a rampage Thursday in a Jewish settlement in the West Bank, killing an Israeli 13-year-old and wounding a 7-year-old boy before fleeing the area. The attack posed an important test for Israel's new prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, who has promised a firm hand against militants and expressed skepticism about prospects for peace. Government spokesman Mark Regev called it a "senseless act of brutality against innocents." Police and military units were searching for the attacker, according to police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld and army officials. Army forces were operating in...

The Canadian government’s recent decision to prevent the odious British MP George Galloway from entering the country has prompted a storm of criticism, mainly from Canadian editors that find Galloway’s pro-jihad views despicable, but nevertheless think his freedom of speech is being violated.... Galloway is quite the ham pseudo-radical of a species that only Britain, in its venerable, centuries-long tolerance of cranks and eccentrics, could condescend to produce. He is unafraid of abasing himself before tyrant and transsexual alike (see his unforgettable performance as a kitty lapping at a saucer of milk at the behest of Dead or Alive singer...

What generates more controversy at nominally Catholic university Boston College: A crucifix in the classroom, or an unrepentant domestic terrorist in a lecture hall? Based on the media coverage and faculty reaction, it's the crucifix. Because terrorist William Ayers is speaking at Boston College this Monday, and nobody seems to care. How ironic that Ayers' likely route to BC will take him right through Brighton, where members of his Weather Underground murdered Officer Walter Schroeder of the BPD. It won't bother Ayers. As he's said repeatedly, he has no regrets over his terrorist past. In fact, he wishes he'd blown...

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama is making a big mistake in escalating U.S. troop strength in Afghanistan, where he already has acknowledged he doesn’t believe victory is possible. We should ask: What are we doing there seven years after the 9/11 attacks by the al-Qaida network? Historically, the country has lacked a strong central government and has been governed by locally strong tribal leaders and warlords. Al-Qaida was able to take advantage of this loose structure and turn Afghanistan into the plotting ground for the terrorists who struck the Pentagon and the World Trade Center in New York. But what...

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced Wednesday that Khalid Al-Jawary, a dangerous Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) terrorist convicted of a 1973 New York City bomb plot and implicated in multiple terrorist attacks spanning two decades, was deported to Sudan. He had served only half of his thirty year sentence. Recently declassified information additionally reveals that Al-Jawary got help from New York's Iraqi diplomatic mission in communicating with his PLO masters. In March of 1973, Al-Jawary and possible accomplices planted three powerful car bombs: two along 5th Avenue near Israeli-owned banks, and one at Kennedy Airport. Timed to explode upon...

DENVER -- William Ayers, the former Weather Underground radical whose past made him a lightning rod in the 2008 presidential campaign, said Thursday that fired Colorado professor Ward Churchill became the victim of a "witch hunt" after comparing Sept. 11 victims to a Nazi. "There's no doubt in my mind he was persecuted because of his politics," Ayers said before appearing with Churchill at a student rally on academic freedom at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Ayers, Churchill and writer-activist Derrick Jensen were to speak later at an event titled "Forbidden Education and the Rise of Neo-McCarthyism."

Charitable contributions at Southern California mosques are down by as much as 30% to 50% over the last few years. Blame the climate of fear. That’s what Rafe Husain, a board member for the Islamic Center of Corona Norco, is doing. “People feel tense and uncomfortable,” Husain is quoted as saying in a recent Los Angeles Times article. Mosque-goers are feeling jittery about their dwindling 401k accounts and have decided to fork over less money to the needy? Not quite. What’s got some L.A.-area Muslims in a cold...

Some Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences folks recently went over to Iran to lend their expertise in filmmaking. “I can confirm that a group of Academy members . . . are currently in Iran” on a “completely private initiative for educational and creative exchange and with no political agenda,” Academy Communications Director Leslie Unger told the AFP. In his latest “Memo from Cairo,” New York Times correspondent Michael Slackman virtually begs the Obama administration to avoid using the word “terrorist” in reference to Hamas and Hezbollah. According to Slackman... calling these groups “terrorists” turns off the Arab world, in which people view Israel as the “real terrorist,” whereas Hamas and Hezbollah are just “trying to liberate their countries.” In turn, intimates Slackman, using a “loaded word” like “terrorist” when describing Hamas or Hezbollah makes peace impossible. Let’s leave aside for a moment that Slackman has managed to pass off his own view on the mind-numbingly dull one-man’s-terrorist-is-another-man’s-freedom-fighter...

Abuse of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay has worsened sharply since President Barack Obama took office as prison guards "get their kicks in" before the camp is closed, according to a lawyer who represents detainees. Abuses began to pick up in December after Obama was elected, human rights lawyer Ahmed Ghappour told Reuters. He cited beatings, the dislocation of limbs, spraying of pepper spray into closed cells, applying pepper spray to toilet paper and over-forcefeeding detainees who are on hunger strike. The Pentagon said on Monday that it had received renewed reports of prisoner abuse during a recent review of conditions...

BBC staff protest failure to air pro-Palestinian video Many have wondered if the BBC had a pro-Palestinian bias in their reporting. This has now been confirmed. That must have been one very biased news video. Hat tip to Axis of Right.

US Senator John Kerry made a rare visit to the war-ravaged Gaza Strip on Thursday, but stressed this did not reflect a change of policy towards the territory's Islamist rulers listed by Washington as a terror group. The visit "does not indicate any shift whatsoever with respect to Hamas," said Kerry, who heads the Senate's powerful foreign relations committee. His first stop in the impoverished Palestinian enclave was the American school left in ruins by the deadly 22-day Israeli offensive that ended on January 18. Talking to a Palestinian lawyer amid the dust and rubble, Kerry defended Israel for responding...

Cuba, Jan 22: Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi advised President Barack Obama to give Osama bin Laden a chance to reform, telling the new president that America's most wanted man was looking for "dialogue". Gaddafi hailed what he called "positive signals" so far from the new Obama administration, including plans to close the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Speaking to students at Georgetown University via a satellite link-up from Libya, Gaddafi said Washington must review its approach to bin Laden, who is blamed for the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks and tops the U.S. Most Wanted List. "Terrorism is a dwarf...

Arabs and Muslims gave the benefit of some doubt on Wednesday to U.S. President Barack Obama's offer of "a new way forward" with the Muslim world, but many said it would take deeds rather than words to convince them. After eight years of President George W. Bush, who invaded two Muslim countries and gave strong support to Israel, Arabs and Muslims watched Obama's inaugural speech on Tuesday closely for any sign that U.S. policy toward them will change. With some exceptions on the fringes, a clear majority said they welcomed a new tone from Obama, who promised relations based on...

By any standard, the story of Pedro Miguel González is astonishing. The son of a prominent Panamanian politician, González, according to U.S. prosecutors, murdered a United States Army sergeant on a road outside Panama City on June 10, 1992, the day before Pres. George H. W. Bush was to visit the country. With his father’s help, González fled Panama, eventually coming back to be acquitted in a sham trial. Though the Clinton administration labeled him a terrorist, González became an important political figure in Panama, ultimately winning election as president of the national assembly — an event that so angered...

The Taliban shot dead a 30-year-old man accused of spying for U.S. forces across the border in Afghanistan, media reports said. They said the man, who was abducted from Miranshah in North Waziristan a month ago after a suspected American drone attack on a militant hideout in the area, was gunned down before dawn Thursday and his body dumped on a roadside in the same area. A note placed near the body described him as a 'U.S. spy.' Earlier Wednesday, in North Waziristan, the Taliban released a senior government official who was abducted last month from Mir Ali district. Reporting from Tyre, Lebanon -- Hiba Qassir dreams of making movies. She's ambitious and precocious enough. At 18, she's taught herself how to edit video and sound on a computer, and has her sights set on directing gripping social and psychological dramas. But if the movie business doesn't work out, that's OK. She has other dreams: perhaps to become a cop or a pilot. Or maybe a suicide bomber. "Martyrdom is the shortest way to heaven, and the history of martyrdom is not like any history," Hiba says. "It made victory. We wouldn't have achieved victory without these martyrdoms."

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Dozens of Iranians burnt posters of U.S. President-elect Barack Obama in Tehran on Tuesday and waved Palestinian flags in support of Gaza, according to a witness and photographs. Iranian demonstrators have often burnt effigies or pictures of U.S. presidents in protests. This appeared to be the first time Obama's picture had been defaced so publicly, a week before his inauguration as president.

Put the case of a war between a genocidal, terrorist dictatorship, with its origins in Nazism, that attacks a neighbor that is a democracy, that has been seeking peace, and that is an island of human rights in a region dominated by tyrants. Then ask yourself who the world will be rooting for? You would think the answer would be the democracy fighting in self-defense for its survival against a genocidal, terrorist aggressor. But you would be wrong. Most of the world, almost all of the media, and the United Nations are supporting the genocidal, terrorist, dictatorship. Where Does The...

Does the United Nations knowingly and willfully give material support to Hamas terrorists? It is now a proven fact that Hamas terrorists were using a United Nations (UNRWA) school in the Gaza Strip as a position from which to shell Israel. When the Israeli Defense Forces returned the terrorists' fire, a shell struck the terrorists' booby traps and the resulting secondary explosions killed thirty or more civilians who had taken refuge at what they believed to be a noncombatant or neutral building. The information that we have is that there was the launching of a mortar from the school's yard...

4. Well then, why is the world supporting Hamas, and not Israel—if, as you say, Israel enjoys the moral high ground? The better question would be, why would Israel gain world support? After all, the world is mostly authoritarian in Russia, China, and much of Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America; when has it ever been a barometer of morality? If it had been, some would have rallied to stop the murder of 6 million Jews during the Holocaust, or stopped the Rwandan killing or the Cambodian genocide. Only the US and its NATO allies put an end...
