Harvard University has instituted a total ban on professors having sex with undergraduate students, strengthening language it said didn’t reflect its expectations on appropriate relationships between faculty members and students. Harvard said in a statement released Thursday the change came as part of a formal review of its policy on Title IX, the federal civil rights law prohibiting sex discrimination in education. The Faculty of Arts and Sciences Committee on Sexual Misconduct Policy and Procedures determined the university’s language on “relationships of unequal status” was not strong enough. …
  • Professors For Pedophilia: Witness this disturbing and growing phenomenon hitting Europe

As Christian religious belief declines in Europe, the continent’s pagan heart comes more and more to the fore, and England, is only the latest European country to witness this growing phenomenon. A major pedophilia scandal is currently rocking British society, in which as many as 20 prominent politicians, judges and other members of the British establishment are suspected of having abused children in the 1980s and 1990s as part of a pedophile ring. The victims were among society’s most vulnerable, being mostly boys from state children’s homes. And such abuse, it is suspected, may have been going on for decades....
  • Professors Suddenly Don't Like ObamaCare Either

    06/28/2014 6:03:53 AM PDT · by Zakeet · 28 replies
Health Reform: After years of singing the praises of universal health care, college professors are now shocked at how badly it has turned out — for them. Adjunct professors are steamed at the way their employers are interpreting the Affordable Care Act's employer mandate, which forces them to cover full-time but not part-time workers. Typical of liberals, they blame their employers instead of the job-killing law they supported. Starting Jan. 1, ObamaCare makes employers offer all full-time workers health insurance or pay a fine. In response, hundreds of colleges have simply cut instructors' course loads to dodge coverage. Others are...

In The Chronicle of Higher Education, writer Don Troop highlighted the current controversy at the University of Michigan concerning how much the university pays its administrators. At Ann Arbor in 2005, they paid less than $13 million on “additional pay” (i.e. bonuses) to administrators for meeting performance goals or taking on additional duties not in their job descriptions. By 2013, Michigan paid more than $46 million for these kinds of bonuses. michigan football A dozen professors at the university have published their research, including an open letter, on the website michiganexposed.info, where they call on the Michigan board and incoming...

The mother of the 16-year-old pro-life demonstrator who suffered a rough confrontation with a professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara, has shown a rare civility — the spirit liberals are forever bemoaning the lack of but rarely exhibit themselves. The event: A small group of pro-life activists visited UCSB to demonstrate against abortion. They bore posters and leaflets and set up their display on the campus’s “free speech zone.” Professor Mireille Miller-Young was offended, no, “triggered,” by the photo of an aborted baby on Thrin Short’s poster. Together with two or three students, the professor grabbed a...

In a recent paper, Lubinski and his colleagues caught up with one cohort of 320 people now in their late 30s. At 12, their SAT math or verbal scores had placed them among the top one-100th of 1 percent. Today, many are CEOs, professors at top research universities, transplant surgeons, and successful novelists. That outcome sounds like exactly what you’d imagine should happen: Top young people grow into high-achieving adults. In the education world, the study has provided important new evidence that it really is possible to identify the kids who are likely to become exceptional achievers in the future,...

With a straight face, professors mostly tell you that they avoid advocacy. “The American Economic Association has never taken a position on any public-policy issue,” Beth McMurthie wrote in The Chronicle of Higher Education on February 21, 2014. “The American Political Science Association is thinking about becoming more active.” “And some members of the American Studies Association are wishing their organization were less so. In academe, where every argument quickly finds a counterargument, the role of the disciplinary association in matters of public advocacy is a curious one. Recent, heated debates within the American Studies Association and Modern Language Association...

Dan Kahan, the Elizabeth K. Dollard Professor of Law and Professor of Psychology at Yale Law School was curious about the relationship between ”science comprehension“ and political outlooks. His findings shocked him: tea party supporters are actually more scientifically literate than the non-tea party population I’ve got to confess, though, I found this result surprising. As I pushed the button to run the analysis on my computer, I fully expected I’d be shown a modest negative correlation between identifying with the Tea Party and science comprehension. But then again, I don’t know a single person who identifies with the Tea...

There is an antique saying -- no less true for its antiquity -- that you need to be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it. This came to mind when I read a recent report about what is happening at a Pennsylvania college. One of President Obama's most loyal -- not to say fawning -- constituencies clearly is academia. His rate of support among collegiate faculty and administrators surely approaches near-unanimity on the typical campus. This is why the news about the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) is so richly ironic. CCAC has just announced...

"When you hear a group of people described as 'bigoted,' 'prejudiced', 'haters' or something similar, you would be wise to ask a test question. Raise your hand and ask, 'Bigotry has been generally frowned upon for decades. Clearly, bigotry is not in anyone's self-interest. So why would these people be bigoted if it's clearly against their interest?' Consider the response you get. Is it a plain or cleverly-constructed dismissal out of hand? Even if laced with pity? But what you should watch out for is verbal hostility. If you hear hostile words, even if expressed engagingly, avoid that person....

Four of the top ten organizations whose staff donated to President Obama’s reelection campaign were universities, data released by the Federal Election Commission (FEC) reveals. The University of California (UC) represented the single largest employee group to donate to President Obama’s campaign in 2012, funneling $1,092,906 to assist the President in his bid to gain reelection. That number includes the university’s PACs, individual members or employees, and employee’s immediate families.

"The New Leviathan:""How the Left-Wing Money-Machine Shapes American Politics""and Threatens America's Future" By David Horowitz and Jacob Laksin David Horowitz contends that tax-exempt organizations of the political left, who present themselves are more aligned with the concerns of the poor and working class than conservative groups and the Republican Party, have assets over 100 hundred billion dollars and outspend conservatives seven to one. The author argues that the Left has used their finances to promote a progressive agenda that has transformed the political landscape. David Horowitz speaks at the Four Seasons in Los Angeles.

The American Association of University Professors recently provided a vivid example of ideological tilt in its gushing endorsement of the Occupy Wall Street movement. Who knew that mobs of misfits soiling public parks and making incoherent demands were essentially the same as learned professors? For evidence higher ed. dollars aren’t always well spent, listen to recent college graduates in Occupy Wall Street try to form a sentence, or see how seniors at Duke know less high school civics than Duke freshmen.

  • Professors Offer $11,000 for Proving Bachmann's HPV Vaccine Story

Two bioethics professors have said that they are willing to pay $11,000 for medical records that could prove that the story Rep. Michele Bachmann told about the toxicity of HPV vaccine, after Monday night's GOP presidential debate, is true. Bachmann first raised the HPV (human papillomavirus) vaccine issue during the presidential debate, attacking Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who issued an executive order in 2007 mandating that girls get the HPV vaccine as part of a school immunization requirement. She questioned the state's authority to force "innocent little 12-year-old girls" to have a "government injection" that was "potentially dangerous." The following...

Over the weekend, a convention of political scientists met in Seattle. The idiots. The last weekend of summer, all of America celebrating a holiday, and they schedule a meeting. At which, it seems, their prime purpose was to provide political fodder against the tea party. A genuine social phenomenon occurs in our day, it impacts American elections, and those who presumably study such things are so wedded to partisan objective that they don’t study it, they propagandize against it. They are an echo of so-called weather scientists who, living through a global warming cycle, do not study it, but seek...

After 34 years of teaching sociology at the University of Illinois at Chicago, I recently retired at age 64 at 80 percent of my pay for life. This calculation was based on a salary spiked by summer teaching, and since I no longer pay into the retirement fund, I now receive significantly more than when I “worked.” But that’s not all: There’s a generous health insurance plan, a guaranteed 3 percent annual cost of living increase, and a few other perquisites. Having overinvested in my retirement annuity, I received a fat refund and—when it rains, it pours—another for unused sick...
