April 9, 2014Wednesday of the Fifth Week of Lent    Reading 1 Dn 3:14-20, 91-92, 95 King Nebuchadnezzar said:“Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you will not serve my god,or worship the golden statue that I set up?Be ready now to fall down and worship the statue I had made, whenever you hear the sound of the trumpet, flute, lyre, harp, psaltery, bagpipe, and all the other musical instruments;otherwise, you shall be instantly cast into the white-hot furnace;and who is the God who can deliver you out of my hands?”Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered King Nebuchadnezzar,“There is no need for us...

Confession Why Do We Go To Confession?"Catholics who started going to confession as children may recall that the major concern during preparation was not how you sinned - disobedience was a given - but how often you had sinned since your last confession. The Sacrament of Reconciliation, or Penance as it was once called, was never intended to be a numbers game. It is now and always has been a means to seek receive God's forgiveness and to renew our resolve, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to follow Jesus' commands to love God and to love one...

His Resurrection Destiny " Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory? —Luke 24:26 " Our Lord’s Cross is the gateway into His life. His resurrection means that He has the power to convey His life to me. When I was born again, I received the very life of the risen Lord from Jesus Himself.Christ’s resurrection destiny— His foreordained purpose— was to bring “many sons to glory” (Hebrews 2:10). The fulfilling of His destiny gives Him the right to make us sons and daughters of God. We never have exactly the same...

April 8, 2014Tuesday of the Fifth Week of Lent    Reading 1 Nm 21:4-9 From Mount Hor the children of Israel set out on the Red Sea road,to bypass the land of Edom. But with their patience worn out by the journey, the people complained against God and Moses,“Why have you brought us up from Egypt to die in this desert, where there is no food or water? We are disgusted with this wretched food!” In punishment the LORD sent among the people saraph serpents, which bit the people so that many of them died. Then the people came to Moses and said,“We have sinned...

Why We Lack Understanding " He commanded them that they should tell no one the things they had seen, till the Son of Man had risen from the dead —Mark 9:9 " As the disciples were commanded, you should also say nothing until the Son of Man has risen in you— until the life of the risen Christ so dominates you that you truly understand what He taught while here on earth. When you grow and develop the right condition inwardly, the words Jesus spoke become so clear that you are amazed you did not grasp them before. In...

So he prayed to the LORD, and said, “Ah, LORD, was not this what I said when I was still in my country? Asking for prayer for a young lady by the name of Tami. She has cancer and is undergoing treatment. She is the daughter of the lady who stopped for my nephew, Ronnie, when he fell asleep at the wheel driving home from AZ. They were behind Ronnie, on their way to Bethesda, MD, for cancer treatments, saw the accident, and stopped to help...and even drove him to Maryland where his family could pick him up. He is well. They were his miracle. Now, that family deserves a miracle. Let's pray for one. Thank you all.

The Collision of God and Sin ". . . who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree . . ." —1 Peter 2:24 The Cross of Christ is the revealed truth of God’s judgment on sin. Never associate the idea of martyrdom with the Cross of Christ. It was the supreme triumph, and it shook the very foundations of hell. There is nothing in time or eternity more absolutely certain and irrefutable than what Jesus Christ accomplished on the Cross— He made it possible for the entire human race to be brought back into a...

His Agony and Our Access "Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to the disciples . . . . ’Stay here and watch with Me’" —Matthew 26:36, 38 We can never fully comprehend Christ’s agony in the Garden of Gethsemane, but at least we don’t have to misunderstand it. It is the agony of God and man in one Person, coming face to face with sin. We cannot learn about Gethsemane through personal experience. Gethsemane and Calvary represent something totally unique— they are the gateway into life for us.It was not death on the cross...
