Robert Millikan’s name adorns buildings at Caltech, Pomona College and other institutions of higher education. He won the Nobel Prize in physics in 1923. And typical for a scientist of his time, he was a fan of eugenics and did not actively promote women in STEM fields. That’s reason enough to remove his name from a Pomona building with labs for physics, astronomy and math, according to a petition circulated among Pomona students, alumni and faculty, according to The Claremont Independent, which covers Claremont Consortium colleges including Pomona. The 1958 building was modernized in 2015.

A geology professor at Pomona College says she will prioritize students of color, immigrants, and low-income students for enrollment in a class with a strict 15-student cap. A flyer advertising the course on “Southern California Earthquakes and Water,” an introductory geological science class with a particular focus on “the particular geologic challenges” of Southern California, expresses a particular desire for “students from a range of backgrounds whose varied perspectives will contribute to the course.”

Pomona College banned two pro-life students from campus last week after they videotaped the question-and-answer session during a Planned Parenthood representative's talk and asked the representative tough questions about recent Planned Parenthood scandals. Pomona rescinded its ban this week after facing strong opposition from students, faculty, and alumni. The pro-life students, David Daleiden, 20, and Kyle Kinneberg, 21, are members of the youth-led right-to-life advocacy group Live Action. Pomona College doesn't really seem to understand how free speech really works. Seems like the school took offense to the notion that two of its students, challenged Planned Parenthood representatives on campus regarding their controversial practices. The school kicked them off campus, citing free speech principles. The students in question are associated with the group Live Action, who has done groundbreaking work in connection with its Mona Lisa project, exposing the predatory practices of Planned Parenthood.
