An NBC/WSJ poll released Thursday reveals that more Republican voters consider themselves a “supporter of Donald Trump” rather than a “supporter of the Republican Party.” A whopping 58 percent of respondents indicated they considered themselves Trump supporters, while only 38 percent indicated they considered themselves supporters of the Republican party. 2 percent see themselves as both, while 1 percent said they were neither. While still historically low, President Donald Trump's approval rating is on the upswing, according to a new Politico/Morning Consult poll. After a lowest-ever showing of 39% in last month's poll, the most recent survey finds his overall approval rating up at 43%. A new Fox News poll released Wednesday finds that an overwhelming 69 percent of Republican voters believe the news media poses a greater threat to the United States than white supremacists. In comparison, just 18 percent of Republicans in the poll said that white supremacy was a greater problem. A few moments ago I noticed a new PPP poll showing that Mitch McConnell seems to have been damaged significantly in his home state of Kentucky by the effort to repeal Obamacare. The number that caught my eye was that McConnell has an astonishing 74% disapproval rating with just 18% approving of his performance in office. A hypothetical Democrat beats him by 7 percentage points. But that only tells part of the story. McConnell is down at 18% approval. But Trump has a 60% approval rating in the state.
