Jack LaPant didn’t come from a farming family and had no personal knowledge of agriculture. But once he switched careers in his early 20s and bought a ranch in a remote area of Northern California, farming became his life and his livelihood. He never expected this decision would lead to his being targeted by the U.S. Army over an environmental law they had no authority to enforce. Yet, after 47 years in the industry, Jack found himself in an eight-year legal battle in which he suffered losses of upward of $1.2 million. As a young man, Jack worked for Pacific...

John Duarte, a fourth-generation California farmer, was disappointed this week when President Trump's repeal of the Waters of the United States rule didn't translate into immediate legal relief from an Obama administration's environmental case against him. Duarte says he has spent $2 million and five years fighting charges that he violated provisions of the Clean Water Act by plowing too deeply on watery areas of a 450-acre parcel of land he purchased to grow winter wheat for at least one year. ========== "I'm still trying to figure out how a plowing method that doesn't not move soil," Duarte said, referring...

The UES wasn’t the only area in Manhattan that wasn’t plowed; in fact, as of 4:00 p.m. yesterday, it is KNOWN that most of the area shown in red in the following map was NOT plowed – not even once: http://project.wnyc.org/election2013/ The traffic on all major avenues in the red area was pretty much at standstill. Now, in fairness, I don’t know if all of the areas in green was plowed but someone ought to know. If the UES wasn’t plowed when, for instance, the UWS was, it’d seem that Kaiser Wilhelm II wasn’t going after just the 1 percenters...

The now-criminal investigation of NYC sanitation workers for allegedly delaying slowing snow removal is picking up steam. A video obtained by CBS-2 shows snowplows driving through Queens on the night of the blizzard with plows raised. Other pictures and reports show workers napping on the job, drinking beer, and spending 11 hours at a Dunkin Donuts. All of this evidence has been submitted to prosecutors who are looking into criminal wrongdoing. We're waiting for someone to get fired. See the CBS video here

Chinese archaeologists believe the pottery, which is 30-cm-talland 34-cm in width, belongs to the Majiayao culture, a historical period in about 3300 B.C. to 2050 B.C.. The picture on the pottery vividly portrays a scene of plowing in simple black lines. Beside the farmland is a river, painted in several zigzag lines. Wang Zhi'an, president of the Gansu Provincial Majiayao Culture Society, said the design...
