OK fellow FR ping list managers, here is a place to gather, to chat and to identify issues that we need help with. Me first, since this is my thread. The pro-life/Catholic ping list is now so large that the system pings twice and three times all too often. Any ideas on fixing this?

There exists somewhere in FReeperland, a master list of all of the ping lists, and I used to keep a copy of it on my computer. I hope I'm posting this in the right place and I'm doing it the right way. I did a search and couldn't find an answer. I know there are "ping" lists for people interested in certain subjects. I'm a planetary astrophotographer and would like to be on a "space" ping list and also have a great interest in archaeology, in particular Biblical archaeology. Could someone explain to me how the "ping" lists work? Apologies in advance if I'm asking in the wrong play and wrong way.

Over the past few weeks I've been compiling various ping lists via requests on some of my Freep posts. This is the first viewing offered. It's sparse; I'm sure there's plenty more Freep ping lists out there. And it's not viewed by millions. But I will put the URL in my sig line when I post on FreeRepublic and I'm a frequent poster. A few people have expressed interest on the NM message board in having contact info for NM FReepers in case FR goes down for an extended period of time. There are 208 names listed for New Mexico. I would be glad to receive contact info by FReepMail and maintain a list off site which I think is what is being asked for. I think the info should include your FR name (which would come with the mail), your real name, email, phone and town. Street address would be optional. Has anyone taken over the Survivor ping list? The new season starts tomorrow. No, I'm not volunteering.

After all was said and done about the Tiller murder, I looked around what responses that I seen from people, what I still see now, and I was... disturbed how angry they were. Now anger isn't a bad thing always, but there was no point to the responses; they just blowed out steam (which again not always bad) but I felt like nothing that was happening on those threads were anyway productive to the pro-life movement; and this isn't an unusual thing: look on any abortion thread.

The most recent master list of ping lists is from 2007 (over two years old - egad!). So, after another FReeper suggested tonight that we need an updated master list, I figured, take some initiative. Anyways, if you have a ping list, or more than one, (please) say so on this thread so I can compile a new master list over the next week. Can somebody explain how Ping Lists work? Is it just a distribution list that I have resident on my computer or is it on FR? How do I create one? I looked for a tutorial on FR but could find anything. Thanks.

Alright, silly question here, I admit. I've been an occasional lurker/poster on FR for close to four years now, and while I'm on several ping lists, I've never managed one. I was hoping to get a little advice on the logistics of getting one rolling. Any help would be appreciated.
