Who would have thought that Bowe Bergdahl would score a presidential pardon before Hillary Clinton? Not that President Barack Obama has pardoned either one -- at least not yet. But Christmas is coming. So don't be surprised if Obama lets Sgt. Bergdahl walk instead of having him stand trial, as scheduled, for desertion and misbehavior in the face of the enemy. U.S. Army Sgt. Bergdahl endangered his fellow soldiers when he walked off his post in Afghanistan in 2009, leaving his weapon and body armor behind, and walked into the arms of the Taliban.

President Barack Obama has pardoned 78 people and shortened the sentence of 153 others convicted of federal crimes, the greatest number of individual clemencies in a single day by any president, the White House said Monday. Obama has been granting commutations at rapid-fire pace in his final months in office, but he has focused primarily on shortening sentences of those convicted of drug offenses rather than giving pardons. A pardon amounts to forgiveness of a crime that removes restrictions on the right to vote, hold state or local office, or sit on a jury. The pardon also lessens the stigma...

The latest Fox News poll shows 68 percent of Americans say President Obama should not pardon Hillary Clinton on his way out of the White House, and I agree. Donald Trump should do it. One his very first day, with his very first pen, President Trump should sign his very first presidential proclamation: “We must put the politics of the past aside and unify our country. Therefore, for the many, many crimes and misdeeds she committed while Secretary of State, I hereby pardon Hillary Rodham Clinton." The left will never forgive him. It's counterintuitive, I know. According to the poll,...

More than two-thirds of registered voters do not want President Obama to pardon Hillary Clinton before he leaves office next month, according to a Fox News poll released Thursday evening. The poll said 68 percent of respondents who were asked from Dec. 11-13 say the Democratic president should not forgive his former secretary of state for potential crimes she may have committed in connection with the Clinton Foundation or by using a private email server in her residence. Less than one-quarter of voters, 23 percent, want Obama to help the unsuccessful 2016 Democratic nominee before President-elect Trump takes office.

Barack Obama has some 42 days or so left as president of the United States. He has made it clear that he will sow as much mayhem as possible between now and his duet with the fat lady, but let us not focus on policy. Let us deal solely with the power of the president to pardon. Why pardons seem to come about at the end of a presidential term is a bit puzzling, let's just accept that they do. So, who will Obama pardon? In order, these are my top 3 picks: 1. Hillary Clinton 2. Bowe Bergdahl 3....

President Barack Obama cares deeply about his legacy. So will he dare pardon Hillary Clinton? Before there's any more talk of carving out a chunk of Mt. Rushmore for him, or more talk of statues or temples in his name, there is that Hillary Clinton pardon issue. Would Obama give his former secretary of state a preemptory get-out-of-jail card before he leaves office and turns the White House over to Donald Trump? [Snip] Now they [Democrats] wouldn't mind if Hillary were allowed to fly to some fantasy island or a mountaintop and stay out of the news so Democrats can...

U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, the former prisoner of war who’s accused of endangering comrades by walking off his post in Afghanistan, is asking President Barack Obama to pardon him before leaving office. White House and Justice Department officials on Saturday said Bergdahl had submitted copies of the clemency request seeking leniency. If granted by Obama, it would allow Bergdahl to avert a court-martial trial scheduled for April where he faces charges of desertion and misbehavior before the enemy, the latter of which carries a maximum penalty of life in prison. …

Washington (CNN)--President Barack Obama dished out some final Thanksgiving puns Wednesday as he performed the ceremonial White House task of pardoning turkeys. Obama was joined at the Rose Garden ceremony by his two young nephews, Austin and Aaron Robinson, as opposed to his two daughters, Sasha and Malia, whom, he said, "just couldn't take my jokes anymore -- they were fed up." He then spoke about turning from "polls to poultry" in carrying out the tradition. This year, the two lucky birds, named Tater and Tot, came to Washington by way of Iowa. Obama, however, said the tradition wouldn't end...

... The calls from various pundits for Mr. Trump to let bygones be bygones, by forgoing an independent prosecutor and instead giving Mrs. Clinton a pardon, are conveying entirely the wrong message. Of course, we all are exhausted by the recent campaign cycle, and we'd appreciate a break from the seemingly endless acrimony. But the Clintons' wrongs were more than misguided political decisions; they constitute serious crimes, including felonies that do not require proof of criminal intent (despite the legally incompetent assertions of FBI Director Comey to the contrary). Indeed, if a grand jury investigation were opened, the misuse of...

After everyone from Jesse Jackson, to the terrified mainstream media to prominent Congressional Democrats have called upon Obama to issue a blanket pardon for Hillary Clinton, he finally admitted that it's not possible to pardon someone who hasn't yet stood trial for a crime. And while Obama was referencing a potential pardon of Edward Snowden with his comments, one could assume that the law should be applied the same way for all U.S. citizens. I can't pardon somebody who hasn't gone before a court and presented themselves, so that's not something that I would comment on at this point. I...

Sorry, Jesse. Wrong again. The “Reverend” Jesse Jackson is nothing if not pious and holy. He’s a veritable paragon of virtue, and we’re all supposed to pay close attention to his proclamations. So, he’s issued the following encyclical: “Secretary Clinton has not been legally accused, and either tried or convicted of anything. President Obama should follow President Ford’s example and offer a pre-emptive full pardon. It would be a monumental moral and political mistake to pursue the prosecution of Hillary Clinton.”

Does anyone else find it curious that Jesse Jackson called for a presidential pardon of Hillary Clinton yesterday?Jesse, leading the “Free Hillary!” movementMumbling his way through a prepared statement at the University Michigan in Ann Arbor yesterday Jackson said: "President Ford said we don't need (Nixon) for trophy. We need to move on. President Nixon wasn't convicted of a crime. He didn't apply for a pardon. (Ford) did it because he thought it would be best for the country. Had she won the election on November 8th the comparison between President Ford pardoning President Nixon for his assumed crimes may...

President Barack Obama has not ruled out pardoning Hillary Clinton before he leaves office in early January despite her not being charged with a crime. "The president has offered clemency to a substantial number of Americans who were previously serving time in federal prisons," White House press secretary Josh Earnest responded Wednesday when asked by reporters.

The White House refused to rule out Wednesday whether President Obama might grant a pardon to Hillary Clinton to spare her from President-elect Donald Trump prosecuting her after he takes office. White House press secretary Josh Earnest said Mr. Obama is hopeful that Mr. Trump will follow long-standing tradition of not punishing political opponents through the criminal-justice system. He said all clemency actions go through a formal process...

Don't look now, but #PardonHer talk is growing. Just as the Clinton campaign and its media allies rage against the FBI, some are looking for a pardon solution. And a way to spin that pardon as something other than a straight admission of guilt. How about political reconciliation and a way to defy those mean Republicans and take the issue of all the crimes that Hillary committed off the table? Here you go. It does not take much clairvoyance to predict that Clinton's most strident opponents may seek to extend the use criminal investigations as a political tactic to undermine...

Since the FBI reopened its investigation of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's email server Friday, a number of previously pressing questions have made their way back into the fold. Will classified information be found in the new probe? Will the deleted emails finally be discovered? Will Hillary Clinton finally be indicted?

Ninety-eight federal inmates will return home sooner than expected after President Barack Obama commuted their sentences on Thursday, part of a clemency push that has sped up dramatically in Obama's final months. All told, Obama has cut short sentences for 872 inmates, including 688 this year. The figure is higher than the number commuted by the previous 11 presidents combined, and the White House said more commutations were coming before Obama leaves office in January. Of the latest batch, 42 had been serving life sentences, the White House said. Neil Eggleston, Obama's White House counsel, said it was important to remember that...

Question: Can the President pardon someone for a crime they have not been arrested for? Can the President pardon someone for a crime they have not been convicted for? Should I have ended these sentences with prepositions?
