David Letterman is scornful of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, which is certainly his right. That he continues to use the bully pulpit of his late-night talk show to crack wise about the former vice presidential contender is acceptable also, if not exactly cutting edge comedy. Clearly a public figure, Palin is fair game. But Letterman went beyond the pale with his recent jokes about Palin’s daughter being “knocked up” by a New York Yankee player while attending a recent game. Letterman claimed to be referring to Palin’s 18-year-old daughter, Bristol, who had a child out of wedlock. However, Bristol wasn’t...

I guess I'm just trying to be devil's advocate or something, there have been hundreds of jokes. "Gov. Palin announced over the weekend that her 17-year-old unmarried daughter is five months pregnant. And you thought John Edwards was in trouble before! Now he has really done it." -- "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno," 9/2/08

Forget Democrats versus Republicans on healthcare, or even Rush Limbaugh against President Obama on most everything. The face-off getting a lot of air time on the cable news shows and prominence on political websites is the battle royal between Sarah Palin and David Letterman.

...wanted to give a heads up to this terrific post by Ric Locke at Protein Wisdom on why the left are completely bats*** crazy angry over Sarah Palin: Stereotype: Womyn® are good Progressive Democrats. Reality: Sarah Palin is a Republican. Stereotype: Only Democrats give power to Womyn® Reality: Sarah Palin is not just a Governor, she’s Governor of a State where the Governor has real power. Gov. Sarah Palin came out swinging on an appearance on the 'Today' show this morning. Ostensibly an interview about the Alaska natural gas pipeline and the future of the Republican party, the conversation quickly turned to David Letterman's comment that Palin looks like "a slutty flight attendant," and his remarks about Palin's daughter, Willow. Matt Lauer defended Letterman at one point saying Letterman, "did not mention Willow by name," to which Palin said, "I would say that you and anybody else are extremely naďve to believe David Letterman's extremely convenient excuse....Regardless, it was a degrading comment about a young woman."...

I'm posting this as a suggestion for everyone. After writing to CBS, Major League Baseball and the sponsors listed elsewhere (without much satisfaction), I decided to not just type, but to take action - I sent flowers to Governor Palin at the Alaska State Capitol with the following note: Please give these flowers to Willow. My family all thinks David Letterman's comments are despicable and my wife and daughters all want to give Willow a big hug. My sons want to give Mr. Letterman something else, but I reasoned with them that that would be counter-productive as you and Todd...

After this week's flap between Sarah Palin and David Letterman, which started when Letterman cracked a joke about Palin's "slutty flight attendant look" and another about her daughter getting "knocked up" by New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez, the National Organization of Women has condemned Letterman's jokes and is asking its supporters to write to CBS and voice criticism. "The sexualization of girls and women in the media is reaching new lows these days -- it is exploitative and has a negative effect on how all women and girls are perceived and how they view themselves," the group writes on its...

Aging funnyman David Letterman proved it the other night. Moose might be out of season, but among liberals, which Letterman is, it's always open season on Sarah Palin and her family. And, by extension, the millions of Heartland Americans the Palins exemplify. Letterman's off-color quip about Palin's underage daughter, Willow, (notwithstanding his claim that it was about the Governor's older daughter who was not in New York City with her mother) and his derogatory remark about Palin, are just another in a series of broadsides designed to demean and marginalize the Alaska governor. Letterman's trashy, ham-handed humor at Palin's expense...

June 11, 2009 You Might Be a Misogynist if...you don't want Letterman fired. Kyle-Anne Shiver There are not many mere words which will cause my normally quietly-simmering, red blood to boil over, but the things David Letterman has said on his show regarding a 14 year-old girl, and his ensuing non-apologies are in this league. That he now claims the remarks were aimed at Bristol Palin, a few years older than the younger sister, Willow, who was in New York with her mother, when he joked about her "being knocked up by Rodriguez" in the 7th inning, is a ridiculous...

The president of a national women's public policy group on Thursday blasted David Letterman's "offensive" jokes about Sarah Palin and her daughter and called on the CBS late-night host to formally apologize. "There's a saying that out of the heart, the mouth speaks, and Letterman's statement reveals a pretty ugly reflection of who Letterman may be," Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women for America, told FOXNews.com. "When he said those things, they were thought through. He probably kicked them around with his writers who thought it was appropriate to say these reprehensible things."

Letterman voted into NOW Hall of Shame: After two nights of "jokes" at the expense of Palin and her family, Letterman tried to explain himself and offer something of an apology. On his June 10 show, Letterman said he was referring to Palin's 18-year-old daughter, Bristol -- not the 14-year-old daughter who actually accompanied Palin on her New York trip. Letterman said "I recognize that these are ugly" jokes. NOW agrees. Comedians in search of a laugh should really know better than to snicker about men having sex with teenage girls (or young women) less than half their age. The...

"Late Show" host David Letterman, in response to Sarah Palin's statement concerning a disgusting joke he made Monday evening about her daughter getting knocked-up by Alex Rodriguez in the middle of a Yankee game (video embedded right), made a feable attempt at apologizing to the Governor and her family by -- wait for it! -- repeating the joke on Wednesday's show. Classy, huh?

Todd Palin: "Nice attempt by Letterman to draw the heat away from himself; however, Willow was the only one at the Yankees game and the only Palin child included in the photo opportunities with the Giulianis, as was obvious. Regardless of which Palin daughter it was, Bristol, Willow or Piper, these sexually-perverted comments are outside the acceptance of mainstream America."

In recent days, David Letterman has repeatedly made comments about a juvenile private citizen (Willow Palin) on his nationally broadcast television show. These comments were made with the full knowledge that Miss Palin herself, as well as her freinds and schoolmates, would hear them and were calculated to cause the utmost in emotional distress on the part of Miss Palin. By using the public airwaves to broadcast these comments, David Letterman has violated Title 18, Part I, Chapter 110A, §2261A Stalking: Whoever— (1) travels in interstate or foreign commerce or within the special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United...

"We were, as we often do, making jokes about people in the news and we made some jokes about Sarah Palin and her daughter, the 18-year-old girl, who is - her name is Bristol, that's right, and so, then, now they're upset with me…" "These are not jokes made about her 14-year-old daughter. I would never, never make jokes about raping or having sex of any description with a 14-year-old girl. I mean, look at my record. It has never happened. I don't think it's funny. I would never think it was funny. I wouldn't put it in a joke…"...

"Last Show" host David Letterman responded to letters from Sarah and Todd Palin concerning dirty jokes he made about the Governor and her 14-year-old daughter. Letterman took the whole thing as a joke and made the Palins out to be buffoons.

A sneak preview of tonight’s monologue from EW. He wasn’t joking about her 14-year-old daughter being a prostitute, silly. He was joking about her 18-year-old daughter being a prostitute. Perfectly legal. Whew!

If Don Imus was fired for calling a female basketball team a bunch of “nappy-headed hos,” shouldn’t David Letterman be fired for his troglodyte comment about Sarah Palin’s daughter? To wit: “One awkward moment for Sarah Palin at the Yankee game, during the seventh inning, her daughter was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez.” I wonder how Letterman would feel if he had a kid after he knocked up some broad? Oh, wait. He has one.

"Any 'jokes' about raping my 14-year-old are despicable. Alaskans know it and I believe the rest of the world knows it, too." - Todd Palin "Concerning Letterman's comments about my young daughter (and I doubt he'd ever dare make such comments about anyone else's daughter): 'Laughter incited by sexually-perverted comments made by a 62-year old male celebrity aimed at a 14-year-old girl are not only disgusting, but they remind us Hollywood has a long way to go in understanding what the rest of America understands - that acceptance of inappropriate sexual comments about an underage girl, who could be anyone's...

Palin smacks down Letterman again By: Andy Barr June 10, 2009 01:26 PM EST Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin took a second swipe at David Letterman Wednesday, calling the CBS “Late Show” host’s jokes about one of her daughters “disgusting” and “sexually perverted.” In an e-mailed statement, the Republican governor said: “Laughter incited by sexually perverted comments made by a 62-year-old male celebrity aimed at a 14-year-old girl is not only disgusting, but it reminds us some Hollywood/N.Y. entertainers have a long way to go in understanding what the rest of America understands – that acceptance of inappropriate sexual comments about...

It is time for CBS to show David Letterman the door. Letterman, in the past few days has shown he is nothing but a nasty, vile, pervert, a misogynist, and a racist. There is no excuse for his actions, and there is nothing he can do to correct them. On Monday night Letterman, in his “Top 10″, called the Governor of Alaska a “slut”. That is so over the top it is unbelievable, but then he did something even worse, he suggested the Governor’s teenage daughter was “knocked up” by Alex Rodriguez while the Governor, and her family attended the Yankees...

David Letterman is in the hot seat for several crude jokes he made on CBS' "The Late Show" about Sarah Palin and her teenage daughter. Letterman, in his monologue Monday night, noted that the 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate attended a Yankees game during a trip to New York City, where she was honored by a special needs group. Letterman referred to Palin, Alaska's governor, as having the style of a "slutty flight attendant."

In a saga that could make Wasilla, Alaska, the new Dogpatch, the father of Gov. Sarah Palin's first grandchild claims that "First Dude" Todd Palin promised daughter Bristol a new car if she would ditch her boyfriend. Levi Johnston makes the assertion in the new issue of GQ, poses belt-up in the buff with son Tripp, and announces to the world that he's dating again. "There's lots of pretty girls," says the 19-year-old Levi. He also describes what life is like when the beau of a governor's daughter comes from the other side of the railroad tracks. "I knew that...

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — The mother of Bristol Palin's ex-fiance has agreed to plead guilty in a felony drug case involving OxyContin, a strong prescription painkiller. Attorney Rex Butler says 42-year-old Sherry Johnston will plead guilty July 31 to a count of possession with intent to deliver. Butler says the state has agreed to dismiss five other drug charges against Johnston.

Seriously, what is it with Republican daughters? If it's not Julie (Nixon) insisting that her father was not some weirdo liar and thief, then it's Meghan and Bristol gloriously re-enacting a kind of Montague v Capulet spat, even after the elders have long laid down their batons. Best of all, what are these lovely ladies actually fighting about? Sex! Never let it be said that the conservative right is as obsessed with women's sexuality as the Muslim fundamentalists, from whom they claim to be defending the rest of the world. Twenty-four year old Meghan McCain, who is everything that one...

Looking like a lot of her classmates — giddy and irreverent, wearing a silly necklace of Blow-Pop lollipops strung together with curly gift ribbon — Bristol Palin stepped toward the stage in Wasilla Sports Complex Thursday night to receive her high school diploma, more a worried mom than a jubilant teen. "Where's my baby?" Bristol mouthed, searching the two front rows where her family sat until she finally spotted son Tripp near the backstage door, where Bristol's Aunt Heather was feeding the infant a bottle. With a wave to the little one she alternately calls "Handsome" and "My Guy," Bristol...

This message isn't hard; it just isn't as tidy as Just Do It or Just Say No. So Bristol Palin, in all her complexity as target and role model, sitting there with the beautiful baby she wishes hadn't been born for another 10 years, is a perfectly natural messenger.

On last Sunday's "Reliable Sources," I made a last-minute decision to add an item about Bristol Palin's ex-boyfriend -- not because I'm particularly fascinated by the ex-boyfriend, mind you, but because Sarah Palin had just ripped Levi Johnston apart.

part two of his CBS Early Show interview, Levi Johnston - the 19-year-old father of Sarah Palin's grandson - continued to accuse the Palin family of keeping him from spending time alone with his 3-month-old son, Tripp. Levi's mother, Sherry Johnston, also claimed the family won't let her see her grandson and wants a pow-wow with the Palins to work out a custody arrangement. In a perfect world, "everything will be reconciled," Sherry said. "[I hope] we can get together, if for no other reason, [than] for Tripp. He deserves to know both grandmas and grandpas, and aunts and uncles....

Johnston said he's under the impression the Palins think he's not good enough for their daughter. His sister called the Palin family's conduct "snobby." "Look what they're doing. They're lying, trying to save theirselves. And they're the one that asked for it," Levi's sister said. "They brought him to the campaign. They should have known what was coming. They can't, you know, turn around and try to take it back now." The Johnston siblings accuse Palin of lying about Levi staying in her home. According to Levi Johnston, he began sharing a room with Bristol in the Palin household a...

Just days after appearing on the Tyra Banks Show, Levi Johnston, Bristol Palin's former fiancé and father to her son Tripp, talked more on CBS' The Early Show about his difficulties with the family of former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin. One point of disagreement: Whether Johnston, 18, ever lived at the Palin's home. "They said I didn't live there," he said. "[They say] I 'stayed' there. I was like, 'Okay, whatever you want to call it' – I had all my stuff there. So, if you wanna call it staying there, that's fine."

(CBS) Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, John McCain's running mate in last year's presidential race, is a new grandmother. But a war of words is escalating between her camp and Levi Johnston, the father of Tripp, the baby Palin's teenage daughter, Bristol, had in late December. Levi and Bristol have broken off their engagement. On "The Tyra Banks Show" earlier this week, Johnston said Sarah Palin almost certainly knew the two teens were having sex before Bristol got pregnant, and he admitted the obvious -- that they didn't always practice safe sex.

Sarah Palin insists she's been focusing on one thing -- governing Alaska -- since the presidential election. But, observes Early Show national correspondent Hattie Kauffman, it's been hard to ignore the negative headlines swirling around her extended family and acquaintances in recent weeks. Eyebrows were raised when Levi Johnston, the ex-fiancé of Palin's daughter, Bristol, and father of their son, Tripp, told Tyra Banks on Banks' talk show he's "pretty sure" the Alaska governor knew he and Bristol were having sex. Johnston also admitted, after some prodding by Banks, that he and Bristol only practiced safe sex "most of the...

She knew? You betcha, says the baby daddy of Sarah Palin's grandson. The Alaska governor most likely was aware before her daughter, Bristol, became pregnant that the teenager and her hockey hunk boyfriend were having sex, Levi Johnston said in a bombshell new interview. "I'm pretty sure she probably knew. Moms are pretty smart," said Johnston, 18, the father of the governor's first grandchild, in an interview that will air Monday on "The Tyra Banks Show." Johnston said he and Bristol Palin practiced safe sex "most of the time."

The Palin family continues to grab headlines, and once again it has nothing to do with politics. This time it surrounds Sarah Palin's sister-in-law, Diana Palin, who was arrested on Thursday for allegedly burglarizing a house. Not once, but twice in a matter of days. And she reportedly brought her 4-year-old daughter along for the heists, according to the Anchorage Daily News. (snip)

Palin’s Sister-in-Law’s, Hairdresser’s, Grocer Had Friend With Pet that Peed on Obama 4 Prez Sign And now an important word from the Associated Press: by Warner Todd Huston Saturday, April 4th ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Police say that Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s sister-in-law’s, hairdresser’s, grocer had a friend with a pet schnauzer that urinated on an Obama for president sign during the late campaign.
